.

Drawn by the vivid colors, soft light, and gentle murals of the Baby Garten's walls, I remembered when my teens were as easy to please as a newborn infant, 2 seconds later I opened the Garten door to play and learn.

Monta Z. Briant who is a best selling author of baby sign language books and DVDs then engaged me in a conversation on San Diego's Real Diaper Support Group, child birthing, baby yoga, Nurturing Pathways, breast feeding, the California budget crunch and subsequent loss of benefits for parents of children with special needs, and much more. I was impressed by the clearly professional but yet very personal touch of the instructors and students.

This is a mother (or father) and child place however, not a day care center. Bonding nurturing sharing and learning for the parent are the unstated guarantee. Baby Garten offers classes by professionals, both practical and fun. Practical: special needs, birthing, parenting, Pre-school Spanish, Baby Sign Language. Fun: baby wearing classes, baby yoga classes, creative movement & dance, mom & baby exercise, and music with cultural themes.

One of the special needs class, the Baby Garten's "co-pay equivalent group classes meet that need" says Briant.

For the purists out there I should quote Briant in as saying that, "only American Sign Language signs are is taught, we are not making up signs."

Although Briant's Baby Garten is in it's infancy stage, but she has been doing classes in San Diego for over 10 years and has a solid base of recognized professionals. The curriculum seems only set to grow.
