I used to go to a jewelry store when I wanted to sell some of my gold jewelry.

By the way, I have, a number of time, found old gold jewelry in garage sales for cheap and then just turn around and make a profit at a gold buying place.

The jewelry store always tried to pressure me to buy new jewelry with the money they gave me for my old stuff. A couple times they were quite persuasive and I ended up leaving the store with new jewelry instead of the cash that I intended.

One day, on my way to the jewelers I saw the Florida Gold Exchange sign on Federal Highway not far from the jewelers and I thought I'd give them a shot.

Well, I'll never go anywhere else from now on. I got more money and they didn't have anything to sell me. Perfect.

This place was honest with me and it cost them some money, but I will definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to sell gold.

I had a thick, heavy gold chain with the end broken off. On the clasp of the chain it said "10K". It was really heavy, so even though (I thought) it was only 10 karat, I thought I could get a lot.

So I took the chain to 3 places (one pawn shop on Federal and two "cash for gold" places). The first place I stopped was this business. The guy looked at it, did a test on the body of the chain, and told me that the chain was actually 14 karat, that the clasp had been replaced with a 10K one. So he weighed the whole thing as 14K and offered me almost $800. After he said something, I noticed that the body of the chain did look different in color than the clasp.

I wanted to try to get the most I could, so I went to two other places to see what they would do. At the first place, they quoted me $550, the pawn shop they quoted me $460. Both times, I hinted around about what karat the chain was, and both times they did the same test (rub it on the stone and put some chemical on it). And both times, they pointed to the stamp on the clasp and said it was 10 karat, even after doing this test.

So I went back to Gold Exchange and asked the guy about it. He didn't trash the other places, just said that maybe they were afraid to buy it as 14K, and it was just a misunderstanding. Whatever the case, I was glad this guy had a sharp eye and was willing to pay me what it was worth.
