I called Dr. Foster yesterday. I have been going to his clinic off and on for almost 20 years and I needed to get a cracked temporary filing that was causing me agony replaced with a permanent one. After explaining I was short on funds, had no insurance and could only address the problem tooth, I was told that unless I agreed to a full exam w/xrays that culminated with a comprehensive dental plan, they wouldn't see me. I called back today to speak with Amy, the office manager, to explain that I had found a dentist that would treat me and to tell her what had happened the day before and why I wouldn't ever be returning. She told me that they were regulated by the Texas Dentistry board and that they had to cover themselves in this matter -- this must have been less than truthful or I wouldn't have found another dentist who could treat me without a very expensive comprehensive plan. But before I finished, we were ""disconnected""... I have no need for a dentist who will not see you in an emergency without addressing things that aren't a problem. After 20 years, I will never darken their door again. He may be a good dentist, but if I cannot rely on him in a crisis what good is he?

Pros: Good dentist

Cons: Arbitrary rules designed to get $$, uncaring staff
