How often do you find both compassion & expertise in the same place? Can't seem to find that in a doctor for humans, but pets in the Bellerose, NY area have lucked out!
Dr. Andrew Karmin has been my vet for close to 25 years. He has treated 3 cats with cancer ( 1 was a feral cat), a cat with kidney failure, 2 tempermental poodles, and a gunea pig. Through the years I have been transferred 6 times to different areas of Long Island & Staten Island, and even spent 1 year in Ct. I traveled the necessary distance so that Dr. Karmin could treat my animals. Reason: he is an amazing diagnostician, he does not suggest tests or xrays that are not necessary, and he knows every vet. specialiat in the NY area. He is most comassionate & ethical, to boot.
I am a single person, and my animals are treasured companions. I treat them as I would treat children. When our time together draws to a close I tend to be overly emotional. Dr. Karmin has seen me through 4 heart-wrenching closures & I am thankful to have had a vet with whom I could feel comfortable "falling apart."
Let me add that in addition to Dr. Karmin, 3 other vets & various specialists serve pet patients at the Bellerose Animal Hospital, and they are all excellent. So call for an appointment with Dr. Karmin, but if you need to see one of the other vets, your pet will still have compassionate, expert care.

The staff at Bellerose has treated our family's pets continuously since 1963. I cannot say enough about the excellent care that our pets have received from their professional, caring staff. They have treated 2 dogs and 7 cats during the last 49 years for everything from a broken leg requiring a rod and screws to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Our cat Panther was diagnosed at the age of 6 and lived to 21 because of the superior care he received--and he was not an easy cat to treat. They are all wonderful and we feel very lucky to have the in our lives.

Message from Bellerose Animal Hospital

Bellerose Animal Hospital, serving the community since 1946, is committed to a team effort utilizing the expertise of its doctors and nurses in conjunction with specialists and consultants to obtain and offer the most knowledgeable, informed and compassionate veterinary care possible for our patients. We focus on the following services: 1. Preventive Medicine At Bellerose Animal Hospital, we believe preventive medicine is the key to keeping your pet healthy. Through our preventative care program, your pet receives a comprehensive "nose-to-tail" physical examination in order to establish his or her own overall health profile. We use a personalized approach to high quality pet care based on you and your pet's age and lifestyle. We recommend your pet undergo a comprehensive physical exam each year, though more frequent exams are encouraged. Due to the many recent discoveries and innovations in veterinary medicine, your pet can be protected from most major diseases. Today, many immunizations and preventive treatments are available that did not exist just a few years ago. Vaccination protocols are individualized for your pet. Our veterinarians and staff can help you decide what preventive measures are necessary for your pet. 2. Senior Pet Care Thanks to advances in veterinary health care, pets are living longer and healthier lives. Though ages vary when it comes to considering when a pet is a "senior citizen," a good rule of thumb is to consider large dogs as senior citizens at 6 years of age and small dogs at 8 years. Cats are regarded as seniors when they are 8 years old. Regular veterinary exams are the key to keeping your pet healthy during his or her senior years. Older pets have much different healthcare requirements than younger pets. That's why we work closley with you to develop a senior wellness plan that reflects your pet's existing conditions, medical needs and overall health profile. Our goal is to help you and your faithful companion enjoy many more years together. 3. Cancer Treatment A diagnosis of cancer can often be frightening. However, recent advences in veterinary medicine have made cancer in pets highly treatable. Early detection often is the most important part of successful treatment. A routine veterinary examination can be useful in spotting lumps and tumors—often the first sign of cancer. Treatment depends on the type and location of the cancer. When possible, our veterinarians can surgically remove the tumor. Some types of cancer are responsive to chemotherapy, which includes a variety of oral and injectable drugs. Dogs and cats tend to respond to chemotherapy well and often do not develop side effects similar to humans. If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, we will work with you to develop a treatment program that best suits your pet. 4. Nutritional Counseling A proper diet is one of the best ways to prevent disease and keep your pet healthy and happy. A good diet coupled with an exercise program can provide your pet with the nutrition he or she needs while preventing obesity, heart disease and other ailments. The veterinarians at Bellerose Animal Hospital will work with you to develop a nutritional program that is right for your pet. 5. Behavioral Counseling Behavior problems are not uncommon in pets. Behavior problems are often complex to treat and may be the result of medical or environmental problems. Whether your pet is having trouble getting along with other pets or people in your home, urinates or defecates inappropriately or has issues with separation anxiety, we can work with you and your pet to solve these behavior problems.
