Terrible - avoid this guy! I had only Mehmet strictly from a recommendation from someone else that I knew through business. Mehmet came out and reviewed the job and asked how I'd like him to quote it, and we agreed to one fixed CASH price including all materials and labor.

The basic job was to sheetrock the walls and ceiling for a small bathroom (only 4' x 10.5'). So we're talking like 7-8 drywall sheets along with mud/tape and some very minor carpentry with 2x3s to frame in one small area above the toilet. His price worked out to about $50 installed per sheet plus another $100 for the extra carpentry.

I thought that his numbers were a little high but he came highly recommended and I agreed as I really just wanted to "get this done" so that i could proceed with other things so I agreed. What a mistake that turned out to be.

The morning of the job he finally shows up at 10am with his helper (and no phone call to let me know he was running late ... ). We say the usual good mornings, etc and then I let him know to go ahead and bring everything down the side of the house, which provides easier access to the work area.

So he then asks how he can get the sheetrock. So I point out that they'll fit through the side door and easily go right in. He keeps persisting about it, and then I'm starting to understand that Mehmet hasn't got any sheetrock with him, and he's really asking how he's going to get it to my house ...

So now on the morning of the job, and here's this guy and he now expects me to pay for a truck rental for him to get the sheetrock - for a job that he quoted out "with all materials - everything".

I told him that we agreed to ONE PRICE - for the whole job - labor and materials. The conversation at that point transitioned from a discussion into an arguement - he's trying to tell me that he's doing me a favor, giving me a good price, etc. Blah, blah. And I'm telling him that he quoted me one price for a job, and does he realize what he sounds like, trying to tell me this on the MORNING OF THE JOB?

After a minute or two of this bs, I'm getting annoyed and it's showing and he's taking umbrage that I'm raising my voice. So he decides that the job isn't worth it to him and walks off taking his helper with him.

Frankly, I think that he probably felt that he couldn't back down in front of his helper but that's not my concern and not my problem. He could have easily had asked to speak with me in private instead of having this whole discussion on the front steps of my house. And really - who ever heard of a contractor that does drywall work but then doesn't have a way to get it? And tries to change a one-price job at the last minute? Please! Good riddance!

Thank goodness that things stopped before he had a chance to botch up my home!
