On July 16, 2011 my wife sent a letter to Advanced Design Technology Systems Inc. (ADTS) cancelling our alarm monitoring service. Our intention was to use the alarm without the monitoring until we sold our home and moved to Colorado. We only wanted (ADTS) to stop monitoring our alarm.

On August 1, 2011 we discovered our alarm system that is installed in our home, had been disabled by ADTS. I called the office located at 1300 E. Olive Road, Pensacola, FL and asked a female employee who answered the phone why they disabled my home alarm system. She said that was standard procedure and ADTS does that all the time. I said to her I had only requested to stop the monitoring and I did not request the alarm be disabled. She said she would have someone call me back. On August 5, 2011, I faxed a formal written complaint to ADTS telling them I wanted my home alarm system reactivated at no cost to me.

After not receiving a response from ADTS I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on August 16, 2011. On August 18, 2011 I spoke to a Mr. Kevin Stephens at ADTS. Mr. Stephens admitted that they disabled my home alarm system. After he attempted to explain the processes involved, he continued to refuses to correct the problem that ADTS caused without charging me $95.00 an hour. He said the only way they would fix it would be to have a technician come out and set the alarm up, charging me $95.00 an hour labor.

I spoke with the National ADT, Inc. office in South Florida. They sent me an email stating ??We would also like to confirm that ADT Security Services, Inc. does not remotely disable alarm equipment. Any request from a customer to disable equipment requires a technician and is a chargeable service call.? So, a national home alarm service has stated they do not do what ADTS has done to my home alarm.

I only requested ADTS stop monitoring my home alarm system. I did not request ADTS to disable, or modify, in any way the alarm system inside my home. I just want to be able to use the alarm system that I paid for and that ADTS has rendered useless.

I believe that Advanced Design Technology Systems Inc. (ADTS), 1300 E. Olive Road, Pensacola, Florida 32514-4820 has intentionally disabled my home alarm system so they can charge former customers to come out and fix the alarm system at $95.00 an hour. I do not know how many other customers have had this happen to them. I consider what ADTS is doing to be extortion.
They disable the alarm system inside my home and now they want to charge me $95.00 an hour to fix the alarm system they disabled. If this isn??t extortion I don??t know what it is.

I would not reccommend this business to anyone. If you want to keep your alarm system working after you cancel your monitoring, disconnect the phone line before you contact them. That way they cannot disable your system.
