Dr. McGee is a friendly, well mannered dentist. He always has something nice to say and make you feel comfortable. He is very conscious of what his patients need and won't let you be in any pain. He fits me into the schedule whenever I need to be and his staff is very accomodating. The office is easy to find, clean, and decorated with a fun Texan theme. Even the view from the office windows is of downtown Austin, beautiful! Dr. McGee was recommended to me from a past dentist in another city, and I'm so glad that he did. I am 100% happy with my dentist!
I've been a patient of Dr McGee for the last 14 years and I never had any complains, but last week I received on the mail a certified letter from him letting me know that he will no longer be my dentist and that I needed to look for someone else. My husband called him first to ask why and he said that it was because Dr Glenn left the office and therefore, he had to deal with all the patients now, but wait.... that happened 10 years ago... So I decided to call him myself and ask him why in spite that I was very upset with him. He gave me a lot of excuses which none made sense.
For instance,
1. He said that he cannot longer take care of me because he has too many patients (remember I've been a patient there for 14 years)
2. He is getting old and cannot keep up
3. He cannot give me the proper treatment because I needed a crown (when he just told me 4 days ago he would charge me $1200 for it)
4. He had to let go certain patients
5. He had the right to let patients go the same way patients move to other parts of the city and let him go
.....and many more excuses, but he just won't tell me the truth in spite of my persistence.
So here is the truth, if you care to continue reading.... The reality is that I needed to get a crown done in one of my molars and I decided to go do it with someone else because my insurance was not covering and Dr McGee wanted around $1,200 for it. Then Dr McGee got upset because he didn't get the business and he sent me the letter.
To be honest, I am happy that he did that because I wouldn't want to risk my dental health to someone that is more interested in "exclusivity" and "business", than taking care of his patients.
Pros: Not much
Cons: Old equipment, and potential risk because of his "business" tendencies rather than medical
Dr. McGee and his staff are friendly, experienced, and very reassuring. I was a major dentalphobe when I started going there, but after several cleanings and procedures I forgot to be nervous. I've been to a few dentists where you get feng shui, hand massages, elaborate entertainment options, and so on but no one really addresses your issues and your concerns. Dr McGee's offices are nicely decorated, but the focus is on excellent dental care and personal attention. The fees are very reasonable for the quality and service you get, plus no one pulls a fast one on you -- they always give me a good idea of what's covered by my insurance and what isn't. And the dental hygenists are fabulous! I used to dread having my teeth cleaned -- now it's not big deal.
Pros: Friendly staff, reasonable fees, everything was clearly explained, no one rushed me
My teeth want to go back for a checkup every three months instead of six months. That's how good the treatment/service is at Doc McGee's!
My teeth were smiling after my first visit! I vote for Walt and Ralph Ugaldi! Also the Presslers!
Going to the dentist can be a GAS. Friendly, efficient, compassionate care is a hallmark here. Even PAT VANCE likes it! EGOTE!! CHAW!
The staff is welcoming and helpful, taking care of all insurance information quickly and reminding me of my own policy's provisions to make sure my care is covered. Dr. Glenn's hygienist is the best I've ever had, and I always leave feeling more relaxed than when I came in due to the cheerful atmosphere, excellent service and great care. Worth the drive to South Austin.
