I bought some gold bullion at baysavers and I got what I paid for. I thought that my service was adequate as I was only asking for bullion and not a performance. really that's all I'm asking for in a gold buying experience is competent help, and that's what I got.\n\nbaysavers is open every day of the week except sunday, to wit, so I consider that convenient.\n\nA different jeweler had recommended the store to me because I'd get an honest guy out of baysavers, and that was true so I was not disappointed.\n\nI probably wouldn't go shop there for fine jewelry, however as the shop appears to me a little run-down, and probably that's not what they're interested in selling.\n\nI sold a small 14k gold piece that was treated like so much scrap, but in fact that is what it was.\n\nbecause of the no-nonsense convenience of the place it gets four stars.

I can see where the previous is reviewer is coming from, but in fairness to James he has a lot going on at once. I have always found him to be pleasant and always willing to carry on a conversation about coins, bullion or whatever. His prices are more than fair and when and if you sell back to him he is always fair. He may come across as being gruff sometimes, but that's just James. What you see is what you get.

Sacramento Coin Exchange has been in business for many years and has changed ownership a few times since my first visit as a kid. The current owner is very welcoming and charming with an almost stock greeting when you first enter. He'll ask you if you might be helped and regardless of what I've responded in the few times I've been there (coins, bullion, etc.) seems to become disinterested and gruff. \r
My latest experience has soured me enough to avoid the store for a while; I entered with the intention to pick up some silver bullion and a handful of Mercury dimes to round out a purchase to the nearest hundred dollars or so. The gruffness of this store owner toward me as I looked through his ""scrap"" pile of dimes was awkward - ""It's all the same silver, guy."" I then decided to opt out of purchasing the bullion at that time and just take what few dimes I had selected at that time (which seems to have been ideal, as silver spot at the time was $12.50 and it's since declined to under $10.00).\r
I used to love going into this store (it's the place where, as a child, I purchased my first 20 oz silver ""investment""), but out of the handful of times I've been in there in the last five years, I seem to walk away with more of the vibe that the owner is more interested in the recently expanded check cashing facility and less interested in the actual coin or physical bullion collector.

Pros: Interesting layout, reasonable selection, fair premiums over spot (purchasing)

Cons: awkward buying experience, percieved customer disinterest, focus on higher-dollar exchanges
