The Palm Coast Pet Clinic is a money-sucking scam bordering on fraud. The vet Dr. Sheffield overcharges 3 times what tests should cost and prescribes a large number of unnecessary tests and procedures. She is clearly just there to take as much of your money as she can. If you question her, she becomes hostile. Her clinic is basically a small storefront and has no diagnostic equipment or even the most basic exam room equipment. The place was filthy and reeked of urine. The vet was rough with my dog and showed a clear lack of empathy and compassion for him. She briefly did a superficial "exam" during which she was clearly annoyed about answering my questions. Afterward, she created a long list of procedures and tests and gave the list to her tech to review with me while she stood out in the hall. The tech tried to explain them and get me to agree to pay. First, she attempted to charge me triple for a urinalysis! Then she wanted to charge me to do an expensive ultrasound to "find his urethra" in order to draw urine. Then she wanted to conduct a very expensive urine culture, and a variety of other "tests". The tech tried to explain them all and get me to agree to pay. I was a vet tech for over 5 years and so I know something about the tests she was wanting to perform. I was very suspicious about several of the "tests" she said she wanted to do, most of which were over priced and completely unnecessary. The entire time, Dr. Sheffield refused to come in and speak to me directly and had her vet tech explain all tests she wanted to perform. However, the vet tech was not very knowledgeable about any of them and had to leave the room several times and go ask the vet in an attempt to answer my questions. All of the tests she wanted to do were unnecessary and were not directed at resolving the issue my dog was having. Dr. Sheffield did not even prescribe the one simple test that should have been done that the lab had recommended. Finally, at my insistence, Dr. Sheffield came in the exam room. She was rolling her eyes and acted annoyed to have to speak to me directly. (There is no reason she could not speak to me.. no one else was even in the clinic and she was just standing around outside the door) When I politely asked questions about the tests, the vet became very hostile. It was obvious she was just trying to poach as much money from me as possible. I told Dr. Sheffield that I did not want to have her do anything else with my dog and that I planned on taking him to a veterinary hospital that has a lab. I paid her ridiculous "exam" fee and was trying to leave when Dr. Sheffield blocked my path and screamed loudly at me in the lobby, "You were just trying to trick me to see if I would pick up on the correct test!" "you have unrealistic expectations! You know your dog is going to die soon!" Dr. Sheffield continued to shout at me in the parking lot. I couldn't get out of there quickly enough. Dr. Sheffield seemed crazy and out of control. I have never need anything like it. Fortunately, I decided to take my dog to another vet with a real hospital and lab. The vet performed a urinalysis for $30 and discovered that my dog did have crystals in his urine. He recommended a different type of food. Only after seeking another opinion was a treatable diagnosis set in motion. My dog is recovering, but had I not sought another opinion, my pet could have become very sick or even died, all because Dr. Sheffield was only concerned about money and failed to properly treat my animal. I would NOT recommend the Palm Coast Pet Clinic to anyone. I have done some research about the clinic and discovered that Dr. Sheffield has a reputation for running unnecessary tests and price gouging. No other vets in town will work with her which is probably why she is off by herself in a small run down clinic with no equipment. If you care at all about the health and safety of your beloved pet, take them to a reputable veterinary hospital with the proper equipment, labs, diagnostics etc.
