Let's mention the pros first: The hotel is close to downtown and just outside of NC State - so there's definitely a convenience factor. Also, the staff I talked with was courteous, which was nice. Though I should mention they openly talked negatively of a colleague in front of me.\r\n\r\nNow, the cons: Man, where to begin?!\r\nFirst off, I call question to the cleanliness - there was hair in the shower when I went into the bathroom for the first time, and the floor felt dingy. The furniture looked and felt cheap. Next, the noise - the walls are paper thin. I'd hear people walk down the hall all night, and could hear someone in the bathroom next door several times during the night. It was like I had to suffer because they ate bad pizza or something.\r\n\r\nBut then the little things: The wi-fi was awful. My phone's 3G was pulling up sites twice as fast as my computer would. When you're here for business purposes, that's just inexcusable. Also, the televisions are at least 15 years old. The quality is really poor.\r\n\r\nLast but not least, I should mention the air. The hotel is on a two pipe system (not making this up, they tell you this when you check in). So there's no individual air settings. You turn it on, and if the air in the hotel is blowing cold, you'll get COLD until you turn it off. If you turn it on and the hotels blowing heat, you'll get warm until you turn it off. It was 71 in my room and I wanted it to 68, but nope - the heat came on. I was stuck.\r\n\r\nAll in all - just don't stay here. It's better to pay $20 more a night to stay some place you'll actually enjoy.\r\n\r\nWish I had.

I stayed at the Brownstone Holiday Inn over four days in December of 2006 for a conference. I had many hotels to choose from and chose this one simply because this is where my conference was located. This was my first stay here. See my pros and cons below. \r\n\r\nPros\r\nGood food\r\nNice experience getting breakfast for room service and prompt\r\nGood television reception with large screen\r\nNice desk for me to work on my computer\r\nVery spacious room\r\nSpacious bathroom\r\nGood cleaning service\r\nFront desk clerks were always very polite\r\nWhen I made a noise complaint at night, the front desk took care of it right away\r\nLarge tub in bathroom\r\nGood experience with room service for breakfast each morning\r\nEasy check-in. I was able to check in at 10:00 am instead of 3:00 pm.\r\nNext to the YMCA \r\nNext to a park\r\nMain lobby area was very impressive looking\r\n\r\n\r\nCons\r\nVery loud construction made it impossible to have peace during the day! \r\nBulldozers were digging into the street right next to my room. \r\nPart of the street next to the hotel was closed due to construction. \r\nIce machine on my floor was broken\r\nNoisy traffic going down the road outside my room\r\nEvenings were loud with kids running around and screaming outside \r\nHotel is located in a busy, noisy part of town\r\nBalcony door would not open\r\nSeveral plugs in the room would not work\r\nParking during the day was almost impossible due to so many conferences going on\r\nVents rattled when I turned the heat on\r\nNon hotel guests walking everywhere outside through hotel grounds made me feel unsafe\r\nYou can hear every sound in the hallways\r\nVery loud and clear when someone in a nearby room turns on their water \r\nMattresses were very firm\r\nDim lighting in room \r\n\r\nBottom Line= This is an older hotel in one of the busiest parts of Raleigh. It is neither the best or the worst hotel you could stay at. I would not choose to stay here again because of the noise and traffic all around the hotel.
