A month ago I went and bought some Lamb that was on sell at HEB and was like WOW this was such a good deal. I brought it home and grilled it and all of it was fat and very greasy. Not to mention that I spent $5 or so bucks on charcoal to grill it. I didn't take it back b/c I thought that maybe it was a mistake and everyone makes them. 2 days ago my friend came over to cook some lamb that she had bought from HEB. We were both excited about cooking and sharing a nice meal together. This lamb was the same as I bought a month ago. ALL FAT AND NO MEAT. DO NOT BUY THE LAMB RIBS FROM HEB. So this is $15 or so plus the time I spent cooking that I feel that I have been ripped off.

Pros: Friendly Customer Service

Cons: Sell Fat that they call meat to make money

I drive up from the 78745 to shop at this H-E-B, because the offerings between this one and the H-E-B at S. 1st and William Cannon are like night and day. This store is like Whole Foods compared to its southern counterpart. Here, there is a produce section that is twice as large, a seafood section, and a fresh tortilla section (love the orange jalapeno tortillas!). They don?t even sell salmon down south! I think it?s a reflection of the market segment in the south ? that particular population likes pre-packaged food, soda, and junk food, as evidenced by the product offerings there. The crowd that shops at 78704 likes fresh produce, fresh seafood, and organics. Interesting how two different worlds are situated just 7 minutes away from each other! I would be interested to see how the H-E-B off Brodie fits into the mix.

I?m quite impressed with H-E-B brand products. For instance, their pasta sauces surpass more expensive name brands in flavor, and their frozen meatballs are awesome. You generally expect a store?s brand products to be nothing but feeble attempts at competing with its supplier?s products, but H-E-B products are actually better. All the same, the produce can be lacking. For instance, I noticed earlier today that all of fresh basil packets contained a couple leaves that were brown or had holes in it. Also, I?ve never had issues with egg allergies in my life, but after shopping at H-E-B, I notice myself getting sick after eating the eggs from there. This has happened several times, no matter how well I cook my eggs. Consequently, I stopped eating eggs.

Also, be careful with the cashiers ? there have been a couple times when they have rung up the same item more than once, and failed to scan coupons that I clearly handed them. I don?t think it?s intentional. If you can, try going before 5pm, because that?s when the after-work crowd descends upon S. Congress and Oltorf, causing unpleasant congestion.
