Corinne is an incredibly skilled math tutor. After 15+ years of being out of school, I decided to return and apply to a highly competitive graduate program... and to do so I had to deal with that pesky math portion of the GRE. Saying I dreaded this is an understatement-I was terrified, and it's probably one of the main reasons I had not yet taken this next step in my professional life.
I have always had difficulty with the math portion of standardized tests (my scores low average), and I was concerned this would be the one piece that would hold me back in the application process-potentially a determining factor of my acceptance (or not). The program I was applying to highlighted strong math scores as a prerequisite. I knew I needed additional support and coaching in this area, not only to gain the essential math skills I lacked, but to deal with the anxiety I had around the test. However, I was reticent to even reach out to a tutor - until my esteemed colleague sent a glowing review of Corinne. We are educators and she has worked with many of our students - that was the green light for me.
Corrine was exactly what I needed-she accommodated my busy work schedule, and she spent hours working through practice tests with me-encouraging me every step of the way. She helped me prioritize the problems to work and the problems to skip-""not worth your time."" And more importantly, her guidance and suggestions to ease my anxiety was tremendously helpful. She explained to me the connection between math and anxiety (especially in women) and this information was invaluable to me.
And as a result of our work together my scores increased substantially on the math portion of the GRE! I was calm, confident and well-prepared.
I just received my acceptance letter yesterday-couldn't be more thrilled.
Corinne was a gift to me, and I'm grateful for her expertise coupled with her supportive and caring nature. Run, don't walk to her!
Corinne is the best tutor we have ever had. She is extremely kind and caring to all of her clients. From the very first time my son went to her she has always tried her best to accommodate to his busy and ever changing sports schedule. He has been seeing Corinne for 3 years and she has helped him tremendously with Geometry, Algebra and PreCal. This year he reviews with her for his AP Calculus ( which he has an A in). She has also helped him with English papers and College Essays. Corinne enjoys her work and cares deeply for her clients, I am so glad we found her.
My high school child was referred to Corinne by another high school student. My son was struggling with geometry, mainly due to a sub-par teacher, but also because it was not his favorite subject. Corinne caught him up to speed, had him enjoying geometry, was patient with a high school boy, and was extremely cooperative about meeting times given his high school sports and other activities that caused his schedule to change each week. She is now working with him for the math section on the SAT. If you are looking for a good math tutor, Corinne is the one.
When I first got to UT this past year I was very lucky that I had a base in calculus from high school but I was still struggling and spending hours every day by myself and in drop in tutoring trying to finish my calculus homework. As the year progressed the problems were near to impossible for me and I had no one to answer my questions. I heard about Corinne through a friend and immediately began seeing her. Corinne is fun and extremely helpful, having her as a tutor helped me to thoroughly understand the work I was doing. Furthermore, she gave me tips and important equations that I would not have known otherwise. Even though I have always been good at math, without Corinne's help I probably would not have been able to pass the course. She helped me more than I ever thought possible, and if I were to do it all over again I would have started seeing her earlier! Corinne knows what she is doing and she really cares about the people she works with. Overall she is amazing and I would recommend her to anyone that needs help with calculus or other math classes.
After many years out of college, I was inspired to return so I could apply for med school.
And the first course I needed for premed was college algebra. But, for all my life, I've thought of myself as math illiterate. And, in fact, I never took a math course in college, and I barely eeked by with math in high school.
So I signed up for college algebra. And had just two months to get ready.
And that's where Corinne came in. In our first meeting, she assessed my current skills and we started filling in the (considerable) holes.
We came up with a study plan, and my learning increased exponentially.
During every meeting, Corinne was patient, encouraging, and accessible -- everything you could ever want in a teacher, or a tutor, or just a friend who happened to know the material very, very well.
And here's something else: I actually enjoyed the tutoring.
Several months later, I'm almost done with my college algebra class, and I have a 98 average!
Pretty cool.
Thank you, Corinne.
I came into UT with zero Calculus experience. The pace for my class was intense from the first day, and I wondered how I was going to pass. My friend referred me to Corrine, so I looked up her number on the internet and made an appointment to try her out. I definitely made the right decision!!! She is such an amazing tutor and person. She is so knowledgable about what she teaches and takes her time to make sure you understand the material. She is so passionate about her job and helping others. I remember one day she worked from 2 p.m.- 11 p.m. just to fit everyone in to help prepare them for their upcoming tests. Her pricing is EXTREMELY reasonable for the amount of help she gives you. I would definitely recommend her to anyone needing help...you won't be disapointed!!!
A friend of mine reccomended Corrine to me at the beginning of last year when, after a few classes, I realized how difficult Calculus 408K was going to be at UT. The next week I started going in to get tutored on my homework and the difference was night and day.
After working with Corrine for just an hour a week, I had my homework completed and enough knowledge to be able to review for the tests on my own. She had such confidence in me and this helped me a lot to be able to trust myself during the tests, when I did not have her by my side to help me when I was unsure about one of the problems.
I had never taken Calculus before and was very worried that I wasn't going to be able to compete with the other students that had already taken some form of Calculus in high school but, with Corrine's help, not only was I able to compete, I was able to get a good enough grade to keep my GPA up, despite this being such a difficult class.
I would have never have been able to do any of this without Corrine's help and am very grateful that I was able to find her. I highly reccomend her to any incoming freshmen or anyone else that is going to be taking 408K, 408L or any other Calculus class at the University of Texas.
Corrine Irwin is not only a brilliant math tutor but also an incredibly giving and honest person.
I am a sophomore in college and I had to pass an online business math class in order to transfer into the school of Psychology. I have never been good in math and was nervous that I was not going to pass the course unless I found a good tutor. I live about 45 minutes to an hour from where Corrine lives but when I saw all the amazing comments people wrote about her, I knew I had to go to her for tutoring! Now looking back, I am SO thankful I decided to go to her and the long drive was by far worth it!!
Corrine was so patient in helping me understand each of the problems. She also gave me sound advise in test taking skills. Because of her teaching, I was able to pass the class and get accepted into Psychology!
With all this said, I highly recommend Corinne Irwin as a tutor no matter how far you have to drive! She is totally worth it!
Corinne has an incredible heart and she has become so dear to me. Not only can she tackle any math problem, but she is friendly and so easy to talk to and relate to.
I highly recommend hiring Corrine !! She helped me to not only pass, but earn an 'A' in my online college math class. I have always struggled with math and she was able to relay the course information in a new way using common terminology that made it far easier to understand.
She is knowledgeable, extremely patient, and a genuinely kind and caring woman. I truly would not have been able to pass this course without her! I would highly recommend her to anyone needing tutoring services as she is sweet, personable and beyond competent! I will miss seeing her now that my class is over=)
This teacher was the only reason why I passed my Calculus class at UT. I had a 70 on one test, and then a 50 in the next.... before i met Corinne, and I was at a point where I had no hope. But no, Corinne defied my all my expectations for my future hope in calculus.
Corinne is not only great with math, but she's great at explaining the problems. So can dominate any word problems(any related rate problems, for you calculus students), anything....maybe because she has a degree in english as well.
She also does the problem for you. I find that better personally, because even though she does the problem, she explains it... and if you stop and ask why she did a certain step, she be glad to answer.
but all in all, if you have any doubts about asking for a tutor, Corinne is where the money is well spent.
I first became acquainted with Corinne when my daughter was struggling with College Algebra. I was given Corinne's contact info by someone who had been tutored by her at UT. Corinne worked with my daughter twice a week for the remainder of the semester, including intense review sessions before tests. My daughter's grade went from a C to an A! And what's more, my daughter now has a firm grasp of the concepts and has applied them in other college math courses.
When my son was a sophomore in high school, he was enrolled in AP Geometry, but wanted to get ahead in math so he signed up for Algebra II through UT correspondence. I hired Corinne to teach him the entire course and he made an A! Then, the following year, when he was in AP Pre-Cal, she helped him prepare for tests. She even prepped him for the SAT.
Corinne's rates are very reasonable in my opinion and she always tries to accommodate scheduling conflicts. Anyone who wants to fully grasp math and make a good grade, should call Corinne for help. She's the best.
Pros: Brilliant, flexible, compassionate
Corinne was able to explain BC in ways my teacher was unable to and she was able to clarify topics in which I had trouble with really easily. She is a great tutor and I strongly recommend her.
Before my daughter entered sixth grade she was very unsure of her math skills and had little confidence she would be able to keep up with her classmates. She is timid and afraid of asking questions in front of her peers for fear she's the only one who doesn't understand. Math homework was often a tearful experience.\r

We set out to find a tutor who not only would teach the concepts and skills, but also build our daughter's confidence and self-esteem and hopefully make math something she didn't want to escape from.\r

I found Corinne via her web site and was impressed by the testimonials of her students, her credentials, and her friendly smile. I was initially concerned that she targeted higher grade students but in a telephone call she assured me that she loved working with younger students and pointed out testimonials on her web site from parents of elementary and middle schoolers who had achieved success with her mentoring.\r

Our daughter loves to work with Corinne. She's been everything we could hope for and much, much more. Our daughter has found a new confidence in math, no longer fears her homework or tests, and her grades have been excellent. We're already planning to continue tutoring next year and our daughter is quite agreeable since she considers Corinne a best friend. \r

As someone who struggled with math as an elementary student I know it only gets worse in middle and high school as the subject advances. Strong math skills and confidence in the subject are vital for academic success, and we could not be happier about our experience with Corinne as a math mentor and friend who has done so much to help our daughter succeed.
Pros: Kind, patient, brilliant with kids
I am a high school student at St. Andrew's and Corinne helped me out so much. I was taking AP Calculus and struggling at the beginning but at the end i had a solid A average. She helps you by not only understanding the concepts, but applying them to examples relating to your own life. I play sports so for every problem I didn't understand she applied it to athletics in some way. It helped me out a lot.
On top of the amazing help she provides, she is without a doubt one of the most caring and nicest ladies i have ever met. I am so happy i was referred to Corinne. She will help you out without a doubt.
hey, let me first off say that corinne is soooo fabulous and great. i am 23 years old, and just about to graduate from math, thank goodness haha, only because of this woman. i have always been terrible at math, i took one course three times, and i never thought i would get out of there. well, it wasn't until i met corinne that i knew i would pass this course. not only has she helped me pass that math course (elementary algebra), but she helped me pass my next two math courses that i needed for my degree, thank goodness. she is beyond excellent, and i'm not trying to sound dramatic, haha, but she is. i have had countless tutors from all over try to help me, and sorry to say, they didn't succeed. corinne is the only one that can, she is very patient, and she will sit there for hours, and i do mean hours, haha, and help me in every single great possible way, until she is sure i understand it. she has a way of teaching me the material in a way that i understand it, that no else could. i'm so grateful for her. without her, i would still be stuck in a world of math. she is my own personal glinda in the wizard of oz. she gave me the power to get out of oz (i.e. math), in a way no one else could. trust me , if you are having the absolute worst time in math and want to give up because you feel you can't pass, GO SEE CORINNE. you won't regret. tell her what you need, and tell her your way of learning, and she will teach it to you, and make you feel comfortable, and make you feel confident that you can pass any type of math course you take. she will be there for you, and literally sit there for hours, and help you in every single way she can. trust me, you won't regret it. snaps to corinne, love ya
Pros: love her
Corinne has the ability to help others understand complicated math concepts. She is a natural at relaying information in ways others can grasp. If you are having difficulty understanding your lectures, Corinne can help. I highly recommend her as a math tutor and would use her again.
Had a great experience dealing with Corinne. She really understands the math (especially calculus) and is able to communicate it in a way that is more understandable than the complex theory based lectures at UT. She also knows alot of the short cut formulas that are easy to remember and helpful in learning the material. Overall, a great teacher and is a huge reason why I was able to make an A in Calc 408 L
Corinne has been both a teacher and a friend to me. She was my instructor for calculus I and II as well as differential equations. While Corinne is knowledgeable in the higher-level mathematics, her real skills lie in helping people who are struggling with college-level mathematics. She is a natural teacher who pours herself into her students. If you are having difficulty with mathematics, then I suggest that you contact Corinne Irwin; she can help.
Pros: The best at what she does!
She is a great tutor who really knows her subject matter. I worked with her on my Algebra II and precalculus and always left understanding the subject matter much more thoroughly than when I came. She was able to answer all of my questions and even explain things in more depth than my teacher was able to. Additionally, she is super nice and always tries to make sure that you really understand what is going on. If you are feeling lost in class or just want to strengthen your math skills and get a better understanding, I would really recommend this math tutor!
