They must have opened about a year or so ago at this location. The food is great. Their signature dish with the sauce to dip is very good but a little bit spicy for me. Overall very nice restaurant on the waterfront.

I love coming here!! All these bad reviews makes me wonder if someone put them up to it, just saying... I had a wonderful experience, food, service, ambiance, it wasn't lacking in anything. I felt the recipe was exactly as I remembered

I was extremely disappointed in the service. Waitress never brought the baked potato. I reminded her, then waited 10 minutes to receive it. By that time, I had finished 1/2 the meal. She never came over to ask how the meal was nor even

I ordered the original shrimp bowl with bread. For some reason it was not as good as I remember. The broth was watery. It lacked the complex spiciness I remember. There was also an oil or fat component that was missing. I tried to remedy this by adding butter myself. But that cut the spiciness.

I've always had great meals at the Valley and old MDR location. So good that I always looked forward to returning. I will not return to their new location for the food. GREAT location, though. Maybe I should try their drinks in the bar and just enjoy the view of the Marina.

If I was basing this review solely on the food, it would be 5 stars easily. However, sadly the service is so poor here that I can't help but voice my opinion on this.

Food: Amazing. 'Nuff said. If my review was based solely on this, it'd be 5 stars.

Atmosphere: The bar area where I eat every time I come here has music WAY too loud where everyone else in the room has to talk over it. That and the acoustics in there are HORRIBLE. But not taking off any stars for this.

Service: I've eaten here 4 times and each time the service has gotten worse and worse. I've seen my beer sitting up waiting for the waitress to pick it up & I've been neglected at the bar for so long that I want to reach around and pour myself another one and just tell the bartender. However, today's service took the cake. First, our waitress walks up REEKING of cigarettes and talking like she's extremely hung over, mumbling her words and speaking so softly we had to ask her to repeat everything she said. We put in our order of beers, shrimp pasta bowls, and some appetizers. Our waitress was so busy putting the happy hour cards on tables that our appetizers came out before our first round of drinks. As she's putting down my beer, she spills it on the chair next to me, all over my sweatshirt I put down there. No apology, no napkins, nothing from her. Good. Our food comes, and I ask the waitress to switch one of the TVs to the UCLA football game. She says she'll get right on it. We eat, she comes back about 3 times and asks how the food is and how we're doing, but nothing on switching the game over. She then starts putting candles on every table, including ours while we're eating. We finish, the bus boys clear our table, and we wait. 10 minutes go by, she doesn't come back. 15 minutes go by, she finally comes back. I hand her my credit card to expedite the process. Boy was I wrong. It took her TEN minutes to go back, run my card, and give me my receipt. Honestly, you have to try hard to suck this bad at being a waitress. It's sad that eating at Killer Shrimp is such an ordeal because I love the food here. If they ever decide to step up their service game, this would be a great restaurant. Until then, I'll only eat here when I know I have an extra hour to waste dealing with the wait staff.

I am a huge fan of shrimp so I recently went online to find local restaurants that have great shrimp dishes. . . thank god I found Killer Shrimp! I got the Shrimp w/ rice and my girlfriend got the the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese. Both were great, but I think I would stick with the shrimp with rice. It was spicy without burning my mouth. I think we're definitely going to be regulars at this one!

I just want to say, Thank You for bringing back Killer Shrimp with first class service, delicious new extensive menu and a beautiful environment. I have been telling everyone who was a Fan of The Old Killer Shrimp, they have maintained the consistency of their three delicious staples of their Menu and added so much more. We order all three versions Shrimp Only, Shrimp w/rice, Shrimp w/pasta. We had a party of seven for my birthday and no one was disappointed. Try the new Lobster Macoroni & Cheese, Filet Migon, Lobster Tails and the Sweet Potato Praline Pie & Prailine Cheescake is to die for. My husband is a chef and a Fan, and had no complaints. My children have been begging to go back, they loved it. We love it Spicy & Hot and Full of Flavor. We attended on Tueday, Oct. 18th. Thank You for Coming Back With Passion, Purpose & Consistency.....

I went here last week with a friend that I really wanted to impress, thinking a would get lucky after. We were told that it would be a 45 min wait so we headed to the bar.

Me being a male, I had an agenda! My female friend ordered a drink, I asked the bartender to make it a double then I let him in on my plan...j/k. Well Kinda. He then gave be a double shot of Patron to help me with my plan that I was eagerly waiting for for some months now.

It was time. Tonight, that night should have been the night!

After about 30 mins I got a text saying my table was ready. We went, sat down, and my date, well lady friend started telling how good this place was. Well just so you know, I'm a chef! Yes, I real life chef. For real, I can cook for you if you like.

I ordered the killer shrimp thingy over white rice. She ordered the same, but over pasta. Almost everyone around us was asking for salt, you will find out more as I go on.

While the waitress who was very cute, and nice got our food, I read the stats about this so called special sauce simmering for about 10 hours and what not...wait did I mention the waitress was cute...I really want to get that point accross.

She brought the food and it smelled amazing, yummy yummy in my tummy, well in my nostrils. But there was something wrong. The sauce was runny like water, yukky, but I said "self eat up, never mind the food you have a beautiful girl with you, and she is going home with you, you lucky guy".

The food was nasty. Horrible. They should not even call it food. It was spicy which I loved but it lacked flavor, hence the reason everyone around us was asking for salt. (you like how I brought that point back accross?) I forgot to mention that I ordered the lobster tail which was over cooked. Oh, and the rice was lacking flavor and texture, I mean how do you mess rice up? Someone please tell me that?

Me being the man I am I had to let them know, so everything that I am sharing with you I told the cute waitress, (Don't worry I still paid my bill) who tried to get me a new lobster, but it was still not done correctly.

I offered to go back there and show the Chef how to cook it, but they declined my offer...too bad.

We left and I thought we were heading back to my place, but my date wanted to go home :-(. I blame the food. If the food was good, my date may have stayed the night! Thanks a lot killer shrimp for killing my plans! I should have wasted my drinks on the cute waitress chick! I'm sure she would have went home wth me, well at least that's what I will be telling people since I will never know if she would have or not!

Killer Shrimps needs to be wiped off the face of the earth, Or tossed in the trash where it belongs!

Waited about an hour for a table with my brother his wife and 3 children despite being told several times 'just a few minutes more'. Then it took another 30 minutes for the waitress to take the order despite all of us pretty much knowing what we wanted since we had already had an hour to study the menu. Waited another 30+ minutes for the food. My brother and his wife got fed up and left with their 2 children to have room service in the hotel. My son and I finally got our food, which was good, but not worth all the exestential pain we had to go through to get it. The manager kept coming by with the excuse that it was their 'soft opening' and " I am in the restaurant business and would never go to a restaurant the first month it's open". So I guess it was my fault for not knowing that. Wasn't sure why I had to pay full price for what was apparently a dress rehearsal. We had to beg for some bread while we waited for food, we were all starving. There was no apology and apart from the manager periodically coming by to give us some excuse, the wait staff almost ignored us completely.

Had lunch today at the new location. New look, new location , new people. same crappie service. We were a party of 3 it took over 45minutes to get 3 originals. This dish is not made to order, they should not take more than 15 minute other guest who arrived later that us were served before us . I think the waitress forgot to place the orders. Did not receive a refill on my drink, the refills come from the bar, we were seated in the bar area. then a different server told us we were to get a discount for the inconvenience. We got charge regular price. Waited for the manager he was busy at the table behind us receiving a same complaint. Maybe with the new look a new staff?

Food was great!!, after 2 hours waiting for a table and another hour waiting for my entree, anything woulda tasted good by then. Good trick to starve the customer before you serve the food. Quality of food was great, thats all i can say for Killer Shrimp. They have slutty looking girls walking around with bright red lipstick and hooters shirts. all they are missing is the short shorts. Our waitress was very slow and rude. We also heard a waitress explode on other customers using profanity. I thought killer shrimp was going to take a step up, but they went way down in my books. NOT A PLACE TO BRING THE FAMILY!!! Besides the slutty employees, they have drunk people causing a disturbance, intoxicated women stumbling out of the bar flashing their chests...... they need to either take out the bar, or put in stripper poles. They need to decide if they are going to be a restaurant or a hooters/nightclub. The employees have tattoos and piercings showing, you can even see nipple piercings through the shirts..... AS A RECOMMENDATION........IF YOU LIKE KILLER SHRIMP LIKE I DO, ORDER TAKE OUT.

If you are a local, skip the new incarnation of Killer Shrimp on Admiralty. They are totally into catering to young stupid guys, not realizing they'll be gone after Labor Day weekend, leaving the people who actually live here -- the people they alienated this weekend -- as their only customers. I hope they fail yesterday. They refused to serve us because we weren't young or cool enough. Guess what!? We're the people with money! Not to mention the people who live next door and eat out every night.

Back when I lived in Marina Del Rey this was the spot for some great shrimp, west of the Gulf Coast. I do miss it. And one of these days when I'm not broke, I will road trip for this. If you are ever in the neighborhood, you have to stop in.

If anyone is interested, I found this recipe online about 6 years ago, and it tastes exactly like the real deal!We make a bunch of the sauce, then freeze it for future cravings!
INGREDIENTS:
2 TBLS fresh or dried rosemary,
2 Tsps thyme,
1 Tsp black pepper,
2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped,
1/2 tsp fennel seed,
1 tsp celery seed,
1 tsp crushed red peper flakes,
2 qts. clam broth (you can use chicken broth if making Killer Chicken),
3 ozs. tomato paste,
1 stick salted butter,
shrimp (duh!),
french bread.

Preparation: Using a mortal and pestle (a meat tenderizer and a plastic bag works too), partially grind the rosemary, thyme and fennel seeds. Break up the spices, rather than grinding them. Mix all of the ingredients into a cooking pan (except the shrimp) and simmer for an hour but up to 2 hours (longer the better). Just before serving, add the raw, peeled and deveined shrimp( you can leave the shells on if you prefer). Simmer for about another 2 minutes in order to cook the shrimp. Once completed, serve in a giant bowl and some cut up nice soft french bread. I assure you, your craving for KILLER SHRIMP, will be satisfied!

I love Killer Shrimp..the sauce is so tasty. Since the dish is so huge, I always brought home left over. I would have killer shrimp with my breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was so upset to find Killer Shrimp in Studio City closed. So, I decided to make a trip to the marina's until another friend of mine, who's also a fan of Killer Shrimp, mention it was closed. Where can I find killer shrimp? There is no other dish like Killer Shrimp.....Is there a recipe? Help I can't stop thinkin of Killer Shrimp....

Lee Michaels I hear started this chain of Restaurants! I haven't ate there but definitely will next visit to LA. I'll expect a delicious dinner and pray I get to meet Mr. Michaels and thank him for some of the greatest music in the world ever produced. The saddest part was when he stopped. First I read he was sick of the Music business and retired in Hawaii, now I hear hes in LA running Killer Shrimp?
Lee! Come on! Just one more for your Fans, get ole Frosty and hammer those keys. No one seems to know what turned you off to the business so bad but your Fans loved you and will never forget you. If your sales weren't great that's only due to minimal exposure on the radio, you had 4 albums out before I heard of you. Ive never seen one Man producing so much intense music as you sitting behind the keyboards with a deep bass and harmonizing voice. That was front row in 1978 in Anaheim, CA. You had every muscle in your body non-stop producing the most fabulous sound heard by man. Everyone was in awe with mouth open singing. smiling or, just in awe! Come back Lee-Please-just one more.

I used to make a minimum of one visit per month to one of the Killer shrimp place, more commonly to the Marina Del Rey location, my favorite version, the orginal soup style! I changed jobs and i have been away for 6-7 months and I finally get to go out there last weekend and it was a shock to find out that both places have closed!

Where I am going to get such good soup now? Any suggeestions?

I've went to "Michael's" place since he opened. My favorite spot was the one in Stuio City where I first met him. He is just as missed as his grandmothers receipes & the famously known "Killer Shrimp". Don't stay away for long, you've got alot of fans waiting for your re-open! I usually go every year for my birthday , but this year when I heard your last day was June 29th. I went on my b-day and the next day and bought extra and froze it!!! But they weren't serving your great peacan pie.........:( Miss Ya Much Raquel Sheldon

For those of you mourning the loss, give them a call! They are "in the works" for a new location right now and plan to announce it shortly. They also have a new number - 310-452-3536. You can call and leave your number and they will call you when they can announce the new location.

On a personal note, I was so disappointed to drive past and see it closed the other day. I had been putting off going there again, waiting for the right opportunity (a $16 bowl of shrimp and broth that you eat with your hands does not a daily meal make) and had found two: a good friend of mine that I have never been there with feels as enthusiastic as I do about it (which despite my assertion that this is not a daily meal, I am VERY enthusiastic about it) and we have never been together and secondly, my mother, an avid peel-and-eat-shrimp-seeker has never been to taste the glorious sauce. Oh mom! What a lovely ride you have in store for you.

Also, let's just say it outright here: don't get the pasta or the rice: BORING! it is all about the bread and the broth. mmmm..... come home soon Killer!

Pros: Delicious, unique experience. And a good place to judge your fellow diner's character - always interesting to see how people fare when forced to dig hands-first into a steaming brothy bowl of seafood.

Cons: I mean, you're here for the shrimp and only for the shrimp (that counts the sauce). Everything else is just fine and that's all it needs to be.

This has been my family's favorite shrimp for over 15 years. Is this the sign of the times with the economy? Best shrimp in the city. We live in the harbor area and have driven to the Marina many times for Killer shrimp. Just can't get over them being gone. Gonna try the recipe at home now......

Pros: GOOD FOOD

Cons: VERY DARK

I was disappointed by the lighting and minimalistic decor.....the shrimp and rice were not properly warmed. It seemed as if the cold rice was spread on the plate and then the shrimp and sauce were poured over the rice......could barely read the bill due the dim lighting which seemed to flicker from time to time over the hour I was at the restaurant. Waitress failed to check back to see if we needed anything further until she delivered the bill. I will not recommend or turn to this establishment

I had been here a couple times before, and also to the location in Studio City. My friends and I came here on a Sunday night at my suggestion, and we were starving. I have to say, it had been a few years since I'd had the killer shrimp and I was looking forward to it. But my friends and I were pretty disappointed, mostly because the broth was flat and flavorless. Maybe it was an off night. But if you have three variations of one item on the menu, you should make sure it's up to par. At least it was still spicy.

It is exactly 88.7 miles from my house to Killer Shrimp, and I make it a point to eat there several times a year. Do I really need to say more?

Pros: Shrimp, Sauce, Simplicity

Cons: You had better like shrimp, and a spicy cajun sauce...

Dipping bread into what looks like melted butter with unpeeled shrump might not appeal to you. It didn't entirely appeal to me at first, but then I tried it. It was VERY yummy! It's very very greasy so I can't justify coming back very often, and it was kind of a pain to have to dip my fingers in the "soup" and have grease all over my hands for hours afterwards. But it was tasty and I'd like to come back sometime.

I am not really sure what the rave reviews are about, I thought this was pretty average. Don't get me wrong, I love shrimp, I love spicy, I love dives. But this was just "meh" and I had a stomach ache for quite a while after. I guess I expected more for what ended up costing ov24 bucks for lunch with a lemonade. But the friend that I was with- it's one of her favorite places. So, different strokes, etc. I will take a pass next time.

Killer Shrimp rocks. The servers are always attentive and the shrimp is always yummy. The sauce is to die for. Once you try it once, you'll definitely want to go back. It is craving-inspiring.

I love Killer Shrimp! I often take it home with me from work, but will also commute the 10 miles from my house when I get a KS jones on a weekend. I love the the food and the staff. The way the shrimp is cooked in the spicey creamy broth is fantastic, and I've moved from just the shrimp and bread to shrimp and pasta which comes with bread anyway. That and a good glass of wine is fine anytime.

I am always telling my friends to chat up the servers who are generally women all wearing black sporting some of the most amazing tattos in LA. They are sweet and friendly and efficient, and even when I call in on the phone they are the same way.

The atmosphere is nothing to write about - it used to be an old Thai restaurant on the 2nd floor (walkup only) of a strip mall about 1/2 mile from Venice pier. The banquettes are comfortable, but there's not much atmosphere inside. If it's warm enough try and eat outside on the balcony. The sweet potato pecan pie, the ONLY other thing on the menu, is good, but usually I just don't have room for it.

By the way, my vegetarian friend was welcomed in the restaurant with her little SUBWAY sandwich bag since she can't eat shrimp and the servers were gracious about it, although we at least ordered something to drink for her.

Cons: Sometimes they short you on the shrimp (depending upon season)

Incredibly cheap REAL food. Food is fresh. If you get stuff from the hot trays, you're in for a real bargain. Ordering special dishes from the menu costs more, but works well if you're a picky eater.

When I'm in town, I MUST have my fix of Killer Shrimp, otherwise I'd go home completely unsatisfied. I absolutely LOVE this place! I'm all about having only 3 things on the menu. I always get the bowl of shrimp/broth and a side of bread. I don't need the rice or noodles to satisfy me. I've never complained about the service or the music. I'm not there for that anyway. When food is this good, nothing else matters. I'm much too concerned with soaking bread in the best broth I've ever had (seriously), peeling tails off of suculent shrimp, savoring every bite, and washing it all down with an ice cold beer. If you're a true shrimp lover who likes to get a little messy and doesn't mind spice, then you wouldn't complain about this place. We all have our own opinions, but mine is the best :)

i have been to killer shrimp many times, as it is one of my favorite easy and casual restaurants. therefore, i was shocked at the bad reviews on this site! first of all, it seems that everyone with a negative opinion had ordered the shrimp with bread--a silly choice, for all the options come with free bread. simply save up the extra $3 for rice or pasta, and you will not be disappointed. the sauce does tend to vary--spicer on some days (the way i like it) and more buttery on others. it is always good, though. and the portions are huge--they easily last me 2-3 meals each. no, this is not ground-breaking haute cuisine--if that's what you want, go someplace else. this is simple food in large portions for a good deal. if you love shrimp, i highly recommend!

I'm the kind of person that loves holes in the wall - the kind of places where you go for the food and not the ambience. I also LOVE shrimp and seafood, so I thought this would be a great place to go. So wrong! I ordered the shrimp and bread (it's one of maybe 4 choices). The bread was nothing to write home about; I had thought since it's integral to the meal, it would be really good, but no. However, the shrimp in a spicy red sauce was really bad. The idea of the meal was a good one, but the reality of it was that all I tasted was spice and a whole lot of rosemary. I'm so not going back.

My boyfriend and I went there one evening. The food was average, however, the service was the worst I've ever experienced. The waitress was outright rude. After she brought the food she did not come back to our table, not even to bring the check. She walked by several times attending to the table beside us, but totlally ignored us for no apparent reason. We asked other servers for assistance and they were also less than helpful. We had to go to the front counter to get our check and pay the bill. We asked to make a complaint with the manager and they claimed that he or she would not be there until the following week.

My sister-in-law introduced me to Killer Shrimp about 5 years ago. It truly is the best shrimp I have ever had. There are others that try to imitate, but they can't compare. One of my favorite restraunts in Cambria even has a similar dish, with patio seating and an ocean view. Still I'd rather have Killer Shrimp. It is so great that my sisters-in-law and myself make regular pilgrimages from the IE all the way to Marina Del Rey on a monthly basis just for Killer Shrimp. The only thing we have decided is missing is margaritas. Don't like beer or wine, but a nice cold margarita would set the spicy shrimp off great. Go first thing for lunch to avoid the crowds.

Less is more just might not be enough for this no edible frills dining experience. Simply put, the menu consists of the signature dish (for which the restaurant is named) served with your choice of French bread, angel hair or white rice. Succulent shrimp are boiled and served in a hot broth in addition to your carb of choice. Though the shrimp were plump and sweet, less praise can be given to its killer companion. The melding of butter, white whine is almost always perfect, but my portion was overloaded with mounds of herbs, gobs of chopped garlic and a little too much chili pepper. The broth definitely cant stand alone on its own flavor and too much of it can mask the natural goodness of the shrimp. If youre a shrimp enthusiast give it a try, but be wary to not let the broth kill your experience.

I was expecting something better than it was. It was good, kind of sloppy, I ordered with bread. The sauce was good but very spicy and needed a pitcher of water for the entire meal. My water glass was never refilled. Very plain and TOO dark. But it was good and I will go back.
