I have nothing to say but sheer perfection. first off,I booked my appointment because they carry my favorite product line Oribe and was looking for something fresh and new. I just want to say that I was a little confused finding this hidden gem as it is tucked away in what looks to be a historical building full of creative smalls businesses (lets just say there is a male modeling agency on the floor below), finally when I hit to the top of the building "OMG the penthouse!" I was introduced to a lovely sunlit airy loft that is chic, fashion foward, and very New York. I was greeted and wisked away by a lovely woman who greeted me and offered me green tea. Promptly introduced to my Colorist and Stylist who I might add did a very thorough consultation and did a very clean application (finally no stains ladies) and had a amazing massaging shampoo where I noticed they had a cute spa in the back (later I found out they also use another favorite product of mine Eminence) Ok back to the hair! The stylist I went to specializes in technical dry cuts. ( ladies all I have to say is if you have long PRECIOUS hair a dry cut is the way to go for a haircut!) they definately know what they are doing! I was so excited about how everything went that I prebooked right after for my next appointment EEEEEEEEEE I can't wait!

I had been excited to go to this salon as I had seen good reviews. I had a discount coupon so I got a cut and color.
to start with I said to pull the color through my hair not just on my roots. She just wouldn't do it. She gave me brown when I wanted golden blonde.

Then for the haircut. I told her my hair kept getting in my face and sometimes I couldn't see. I wanted her to leave the length in the back, but cut the front a lot shorter. She just refused. I asked for bangs. She wouldn't do that either, but she cut 6 inches off the length and left the front long. The complete opposite of what I said. They offered to fix the cut, but I didn't want to go back... I ended up cutting 4 inches off the front myself. Horrible people.

I moved to NYC a few months ago from Chicago and between moving and settling into a new job and things, I'd let my hair become a disastrous mess of under-conditioned split ends. I also was going through that period of denial where you know you need to find a new stylist because flying across the country for a haircut is not entirely practical. I walked into Medulla after receiving a recommendation from a friend and loved the vibe from the moment I walked in.

The sunny loft space was incredibly convenient for me to get to and thanks to the sun (as well as nifty art installations) brought me out of the dreary wintry day and into a refreshing spring-like atmosphere. Henry was my stylist and by the time I left had become my favorite stylist to date. He took my indistinct ramblings of what I wanted, as well as a few of my very specific desires and combined them into a perfect cut.

I have curly hair and am generally wary to let anyone cut it due to a few too many "trims" that ended up taking half my length off. Henry took off exactly what we agreed on and the layers he cut into it gave my hair that ideal bounce and shape that is so often missed when cutting curly hair.

Medulla is definitely a place I hope to go back to and I'm pretty sure Henry may have a new regular client.
