The food is beyond compare. They make everything to your personal taste. Then they follow up to make sure you're not only satisfied but thrilled with the excellent food and preparation.

okay the food is amazing, but it is a little out of the way. the neighborhood is nice and super safe but it's kind of random. i think if more people try the food and realize how good it is they'll be willing to head out to gowanus. but i have a feeling this area is gonna blow up (with the whole foods opening next year).

The big difference between good pizza and great pizza is all in the ingredients--if they're not fresh they're not worth it. Monte's definitely knows how to keep things fresh and great.

really good deal on lobster every tuesday night...$25 for half a pound of lobster with really good sides. they give you about four or five options of how you want lobster meals so everyone will find something to their liking.

Doesn't get much better than Monte's. They're still fairly new (although technically they've been around for a long time--they're actually the first italian restaurant in bk) but the quality of their food is phenomenal. I see them being around a long time.

brunch is a pretty big deal in this city and when you find the perfect brunch spot, you tend to claim it as your own. that's how i feel about monte's. i've tried sooo many different things from their menu and i think the cinnamon raisin french toast has gotta be my favorite. but their frittatas are also pretty good.

at Monte's. You get a burger, fries and a beer for only $10--that is pretty rare nowadays. And the burger is sooooooo good, you will be leaving very satisfied.

If you're looking for a great night out (not to mention the best pizza in Brooklyn) look no further then Monte's. I had mixed feelings about this place at first after seeing some mixed reviews, but after trying it--there's no denying it! Best pizza in Brooklyn is a total understatement!

All the ingredients are so so fresh and the staff here is superb! Great for taking the entire family out for some pizza. And now that the weather is getting nice you can take advantage of their outdoor seating.

Went here yesterday to watch the Giants whoop some major Patriots butt! Couldn't really beat their pizza and beer deals--and these are the two main things I enjoy with my football viewing time. Great crowd to watch the game with and the service was on top of everything.

they recently reopened and are still gaining their stride in a lot of ways, but bottom line the food is great and the staff is super nice. i think they'll really come into their own in 2012.

They just reopened so they're still gaining their stride, but they definitely still got it. It helps that all of their servers are very friendly--possibly the best service I've had in a long, long time.

When my family came into town I knew I had to take them to Monte's. It has enough of that old school Italian charm with a modern twist that would impress them. They couldn't stop raving about their pizza! They even wanted to go back for brunch the next morning.

Really glad to see this place back in action...they are definitely a part of NY history. The new management is doing an amazing job and I'm feeling all of these modern twists on traditional Italian dishes.

You really can't beat a meal and a mimosa for $15. I'm always torn between their cinnamon french toast and the chocolate ricotta crepe. I know, it sounds kinda weird to have chocolate and cheese together but it is SO GOOD. The strawberry sauce only makes it that much better too. On top of all the delicious food to choose fro, the waiters kick ass and it is in a pretty cool area.

Okay, this place might have a "historic" atmosphere, but the only way you could reasonably explain why this place has lasted a 100 years is that the owner is probably laundering money. It's certainly not that the place wants to serve customers. Every table we saw in there (beside the two imposing thugs friendly with the staff) had a look of disgust on their face when they realized they were being ripped off, paying $$ for heated canned tomato sauce. Everything tasted like it was opened from cans and warmed without seasoning. The "Italian" wine (ignore the menu list, they will say they only have red or white), is technically from Italy, but it's still gas station wine. My friend and I paid $84 for what was hands down the worst meal we have had in NYC. We have never felt more ripped off from a dining experience in our lives. Sleep with the fishes you Paulies.

Pros: None whatsoever.

Cons: Terrible food. Awful wine. Overpriced.

Not only was I amazed by the quality of the food and the old world charm, the price was surprisingly fair.
You have to do this at least once to say you have been to NYC.
PS-Don't miss the cheese cake. Unlike any cheese cake I have ever had. Maybe better than Juniors.
PPS-Hopefully you will run into some of the locals. A guy walked in who looked like Mozart. From the conversation with his son, learned that he was in fact a composer.

How can you beat an environment that throws you back to the glory years of New York Italian cooking while giving a glimpse into the Pop America of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. The seafood appetizers are particularly amazing. The cold meats couldn't be fresher. It's a steal even for Brooklyn. In fact, you'll feel a million bucks richer when you leave.

My husband loves old-school Italian restaurants, I decided to take him to Monte's for his birthday. When we first walked in, I was a little taken back by the ambiance... smelly old carpet and booths in need of re-covering made me a little nervous. We choose our courses from the tattered old menus and then the food started coming. First were the baked clams. They were by far the best we had ever tasted. The pasta fagiole soup -- fantastic! The house red was the perfect match for all the dishes we sampled. I could go on about the magnificent food, but then I wouldn't have room to tell you about the cheesecake!!! We were too full so they gave us a piece to take with us -- on the house! It was honestly some of the BEST cheesecake ever!!!
