Real speeds of .09 MBPS For those of you not too internet speed savy, that means waiting 30 min to download a 2 minute you tube video. Also forget about doing anything internet related from 6pm to 11pm since everyone gets home gets on the internet. Online gaming, good luck with that, pings that fluctuate from 250-1000 you will get booted on just about any server you try to connect with.

I had Softcom come out and install a fixed wireless system back in 09 and I was actually happy with the system, speeds of close to 1 MBPS which was way better than satellite I had before. Problems didn??t start until mid to late 2010 when I noticed the speeds getting continually slower. As of late the speeds are .09 MBPS fairly consistently.

Every so often this system shuts down and you will have NO internet at all, yea not even the precious .09 MBPS. This happens about once a month or so. Then I place a call to thier support line, which I have saved on my phone since I cant find it on the internet since its OFF!. Then they tell me that "We are experiencing some trouble with your nearby tower and weve sent a tech to put a generator on it." Ive heard that one like 8 times already. Seriously? Generators, do you not pay the power bill for the tower? You should your gettin $60 bucks a month for .09 MBPS.

Thankfully they got rid of the one tech support guy who punctuated everything he said with "sir"

There is one interesting bit of information I found. There is an article in the Galt herald written on August 11, 2010 that says that Softcom Wireless was awarded $6.8 Million dollars in federal stimulus. This "supposed" expansion is being made possible by the receipt of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act award of $6.8 million through the Broadband Initiatives Program of the USDA Rural Utilities Service to provide broadband coverage in rural parts of Sacramento and San Joaquin counties. So where has this money gone Softcom? Perhaps in the pockets of the owners, or for training the support team to give us a load of nonsense when we call about speeds as slow as dial up.
I have demanded a discount on my internet service I initially got a discount of $59.99, but when the service started it was $69.99 not really a discount just thier current pricing. They offered this supposed discount after telling me that "I am in a problem area" ya think? I have since then asked for an additional discount but got snarkley response from the customer service rep saying but you already have a discounted service. So I am supposed to pay $59.99 for .09 MBPS thats not fair by any means, about $10 bucks would be generous on my part.

If you currently have Softcom Wireless and are experiencing telegraph quality speeds I think its time we all demand a discounted rate. After asking Softcom wireless about this new expansion, you know the one they got 6.8 million for, they said that they had no specific timeframe for that, so .09 MBPS it is for now.
