The death of a pet is always difficult. We at Piper Glen Animal Hospital do everything we can to provide the best possible care to all the animals we see. As in human medicine, there are instances where diagnostic tests that we do not have available to us need to be done at a specialty hospital in order to make further recommendations. Once we have consulted with the specialist, our doctor can formulate a treatment plan. In the absense of such information the doctor did all that was possible given the available facts and circumstances.

Around May, my dog began to pant. We took her to Piper Glenn Animal Hospital, they ran blood tests but the tests showed nothing. A few months later, the panting continued, the dog began to lose weight and was getting weaker from day to day. Blood tests and diabetes tests came negative and we were told that since the dog had heart murmurs, more tests involving heart were recommended. Throughout this time, the vet (I won't mention the name) was clueless, unable to make a diagnosis or even an educated guess. The dog was not given any medication yet. After a lot of research on line I suggested pneumonia. I am not a doctor, but I wanted to try doing something to help my dog. I took her back to the doctor. The dog was extremely weak, she had to be given an enema as her tummy was full and she could no longer squat. On this day, the doctor finally prescribed medication. The next day, my baby died. She was my best friend and she wasn't even ten years old.

I've been bringing my furbabies to Piper Glen Animal Hospital for 7 years now. The staff is excellent...they are all sweet and helpful. They will direct you to a tech right away if they cannot answer your question. Dr. Greg Wood is my vet - love his way with my pets, but again, they are all wonderful, capable and compassionate people. It is also one of the cleanest vet hospitals I've been in. They are on top of everthing with reminders for heartworm meds (I can also purchase single dose - lots of places do not offer that option) and checkups. Very helpful when I 've got so much going on. I will never forget the compassion they expressed when I had to make the most painful decision of my life - they helped see me through the deaths of my beloved babies -3 of them in a four year period due to age and illness. I was given all the time I needed to hold them before, during and after they crossed Rainbow Bridge. I'll never forget that...and they did not forget me...I received a handwritten sympathy card from my vet for each of my babies. It's these little things that mean so much.

I am offended at the negative reviews. If you want cheap there are certainly Cheaper places. For me I prefer trusted professionals that i can trust to give my pets the best care - - And as far as the staff goes - - the best most competent and caring i have ever seen!!!!

shop around and do your homework. this place is way overpriced and the staff will give you inaccurate information regarding tests, prices, state laws regarding tests, etc. you will pay significantly more money here than you will at any other vet in town! don't be fooled!!

As a previous employee, I still take my pets to Piper Glen. I can say from a ?behind the scenes? look, that Piper Glen loves and treats your pets just as they would their own. I have watched staff member and doctors cry with owners over the loss of their pets. I have watched technicians snuggle and comfort surgery patients while they were recovering. Boarding assistants were always getting pets out to play and give them special attention. Hours are spent every day cleaning and scrubbing to keep Piper Glen the cleanest hospital that I have ever been in. The doctors on staff are the best I have ever worked with showing compassion and determination to help your pet receive the best possible care. The technicians have so much experience. From puppies to big dogs, to grumpy cats, they handle and treat all animals with comfort and grace. The front staff works efficiently and they are very sweet and personable. All staff members will go out of their way to be as helpful as possible. From answering questions, to helping clients out to the car, giving tours of the hospital, clients and patients are the number one priorities. I have seen what this hospital has to offer and seen how they treat pets when the door is shut. They are a wonderful group of people and I would not take my pets anywhere else! They are the only hospital I will recommend to friends and family. \r

Pros: Great group of people who truly love animals

After many awful experiences with multiple Vet clinics, Piper Glenn is now my #1 Pick. \r
Very Clean clinic, Compassionate & Knowledgable Vets (& Techs), Outstanding Front Desk Service!\r
These folks actually listen and go out of their way to offer different options when possible. They are not only concerned with an immediate problem, but offer ideas to prolong the life and well being of my babies. (2 dogs + 2 cats).\r
I give them the highest rating of 5 Stars!!

My experiences at PGAH have been inconceivably awful. As a side note, this is not libel/slander because this is a statement of truth (with documented facts) that is serving a public good. Not only are their prices considerably higher than the market average, but service is non existent. The majority of the employees portray a sense of entitlement and are quite unhelpful. When leaving the exam room after my first puppy visit, I was presented with a bill that was more than three times the quoted price of $60. My issue wasn?t so much with the cost, but with the fact that I never once was given any indication that any ?extra? services were being preformed. There is one amazing vet in the office (Harris), but without a good support team in place, it?s useless. The true test came when I woke up on Christmas Eve to a Boston Terrier who couldn?t open her eye. I called to find the practice open, but was told they were ?too busy? and that I?d just have to go to the emergency vet. While this is somewhat understandable given the circumstances, it was the turning point for me after so many other service let-downs. I asked for our records to be at the desk for pick-up as we would not be returning to the office. Fortunately, another local vet welcomed us in and FOUR minutes later, we were leaving with the needed antibiotics. Several days later, I received a letter in the mail from a front desk worker, Jessica, saying that THEY had decided to discontinue services to me and my pet. I?m assuming the letter I received was a form letter since it cited reasons that were completely unrelated to any of my experiences. Cost is not the key factor in veterinary service, but if you?re going to command a premium, you had better be able to back it up with exceptional service. Aside from a great facility, PGAH fails to meet any basic expectations of service ? stay clear!

Pros: One AWESOME vet - Dr. Harris

Cons: Everything about this office, aside from the facility itself, stinks. Not worth the time, trouble, and effort.

I find offense to the 'supposed dog show' owner, and to luscious 13 (whatever) as well. These people sound like super high maintenance folks that would not be happy anywhere they brought their pets, people with an axe to grind with everyone. \r
\r
I have been bringing my animals (cats as well as dogs), to Piper Glen since they opened and have been nothing but happy with the service we have received from them. I have a very expensive show horse as well so I understand the need for good service, treatment, and proper care. My dogs as well as cats have had a few problems that Piper Glen has always been able to treat with continued success and I have always felt that I received very informative and well-thought out diagnoses.\r
\r
Previously to coming to Piper Glen, I tried more than a few vets and a dozen groomers before settling on getting my dogs (and at times my kitty) groomed at Piper Glen (this saves me time as well since if they are due for shots and you cannot make it, you can opt to have the staff give them their shots while they are there for grooming). That being said, I know the staff will be nice and sensitive to my dogs if they are required to have shots. My dogs are very nice, but still picky when it comes to people, and they love the Piper Glen staff and tell them every time with a big lick on the chops. \r
\r
When some of my animals did pass away (we had four at one point), their staff was very sensitive about it and very helpful in getting us through that difficult time. \r
\r
So my advice to these two other high maintenance 'customers' is-- vote with your feet- leave, and go to some other place(s) that you are bound to find problems with as well. If not now, eventually. This way I won't have to wait at Piper Glen listening to you blasting some poor staff member. \r
\r
Thanks. \r

I've been showing dogs and thus going to vets for about 30 years and this was my first really bad vet experience! The vet tech took my 2 lb puppy into the back to 'weigh' her. After it was taking so long, I went back to find her and see what was going on. There I see there are TWO vet techs holding her down as if she is some raging rottweiler just to take her temperature, which I had not okayed in the first place for this tiny puppy! I was hoping she would have a GOOD first time experience at the vet and not be unduly frightened and I sure didn't expect her to be roughly handled like that! These two insensitive techs were not talking to her, or helping her through this experience and she was unnecessarily frightened. Considering she is a show puppy and I'm making have her receive GOOD experiences so she will enjoy going to dog shows and TRUST STRANGERS, this really may have set her back, not to mention IT WAS SO UNNECESSARY!!! This may seem like a small and insignificant thing to those vet techs or even the veterinarians there, however, these actions may have lasting effects on my puppy when she is handled by a dog show judge in the future. And not to mention it was completely uncalled for to manhandle her like that in the first place, showdog or not!! And it was SO CONTRARY to every other vet experience I've had over 30 years of taking in my show puppies to vets. I only went there because I have moved to a new location. I'm so disappointed. It was traumatic for both me and my puppy, highly stressful. After this bad experience, we sat in the waiting room for quite a long time to see the vet, and I felt the bill was excessively high. Since when does it cost $28.+ for a fecal check when you take your own sample in?!?!? I will never go back to this vet hospital.

Pros: The vet herself understands small dogs.

Cons: Insisting on taking puppy in the back. Excessive and unnecessary restraint. Poor communication. Long wait for a scheduled appt. time. Over priced.

I have had several issues with my current vet so decided to visit Piper Glenn to get a second opinion on my puppy. My friend takes her puppy there and recommended it to me after hearing the stories I had told her about my current vet's office. The staff at Piper Glenn were very friendly, my puppy just wanted to play while we were there. The office was comfortable and very clean. The vet was very knowledgeable and asked a lot of questions but most of all seemed genuinely concerned about my pet's health. Thanks to them we have finally figured out why my poor puppy is sick and how to remedy her. My bill came out to about $90 which is about what I pay for my pet on a healthcare plan through my other vet so the cost is not bad at all and completely worth the service.

Piper Glen Animal Hospital loves all of its ""babies,"" canine, feline, and exotics alike! We regret that malicious and dishonest people like licious13 can use the anonymous media of the Internet to libel/slander us. Hopefully you, who have taken the time to research our hospital, will consider the facts that clearly disprove the lies in that posting. The complaints mentioned in the review posted by licious13 were never made and the incidents alluded to did not occur. Contrary to prevarication, no bathing facilities are visible from the reception and waiting area. Piper Glen Animal Hospital has never invoiced a client for any amount approaching $10,000. Our hospital and boarding facilities are state-of-the-art. We take pride in and are recognized as a standard bearer in maintaining clean and odor-free accommodations. Our boarding facilities operate under a strict flea-free policy. We encourage interested prospective clients to check us out and we welcome all reference checks. We will freely provide references from clients verifying our patients are treated, pampered, and loved! (704) 541-7171

We specifically chose this place because they have a ""feline specialist""...hog wash! I'm sorry but the ""specialist"" isn't any better than any vet...and worse, she's indifferent.\r
\r
It's a dog's world here in Charlotte and if you have a kitty with a rare problem this is NOT the place to go. I honestly do not think they know how to treat, except for common sense suggestions I could have figured out on my own. And, they don't really seem to care one way or the other either. 10 K later and we still don't know what is wrong with our boy. All they suggest is slicing him open to ""explore"". He's just a baby too...so it's not like he has a geriatric illness. Everything with every animal is a ""allergic response""...that's their M.O. there. So be prepared to fork out a lot of money to be told just that.\r
\r
\r
And, my kitty went in for his neutering and never came back the same. I have had MANY pets and this is the first time neutering seem to scar him. Not the surgery itself, but he is now scared to death of people, when he NEVER was before. I believe they handle the pet rougher than needed behind the closed doors where the owners can't see. I once watch a dog get a bath while waiting for my appointment. The tech handling that poor dog was so rough. She kept yanking at his neck collar to get to to behave. I'm not even a dog person and I felt sad for that poor dog.\r
\r
Lastly, we checked out boarding for cats. Embarrassing! I wanted to board my little guy here, but I would never do that to him after seeing what the boarding facilities look like. Did it stink! oh...and get this..the tech told me that they rarely get problems with boarding...only small issues like spreading FLEAS! To me that is not a small problem!

Pros: close to where we live

Cons: so many that we decided to drive twice the distance for a vet that cared.
