Dr. Maritato performed my dog's ACL repair surgery, and I took him to Shawn Zimmerman for a few sessions of rehab. Everything went very smoothly, and my dog is now back to happily running in the woods. All of the staff are very good with the animals, and every time we went to Medvet my dog would go right up to Shawn, Dr. Maritato, or the staff members with his tail wagging. If I ever needed higher level vet care again, I would go back to Medvet.

About a year a go our black lab tore his ACL and meniscus. Luckily we were referred to Dr. Schwartz and immediately she was leading "our team". After reviewing the x-rays, she told us what are options were and how soon we could have the surgery done. She gave us a very thorough explanation of the surgery and what to expect afterward. Once the surgery was complete, she called us with an update. When we went to pick Malcolm up after surgery and for follow up visits, Dr. Schwartz sat with us reviewed our progress, answered any questions and gave us very thorough instructions for recovery. Even when we got home and had questions we were encouraged to call...anytime. We're so glad to have had Dr. Schwartz do the surgery. Wish there were more doctors who worked with humans who were as intelligent with the "bed side" manner that she has. Would recommend her in an instant!

Our beloved Havanese female, Sadie, was attacked by a coyote in our yard on March 3rd at around 12:30 A.M. We took her to the Medvet location in Dayton, OH and they did a quick analysis and said she needed emergency surgery that could not wait. They started an IV and gave her some pain meds and we transported her to the surgery center in Cincinnati. I'm sure the entire surgery staff is well qualified but I know for sure that Dr. Schwartz is extremely qualified. Our Sadie had multiple internal injuries that she really should not have survived, but the skilled hands of Dr. Schwartz worked with efficiency and great skill to assess the damage and make the correct decisions that saved Sadie's life. She lost a kidney along with part of her pancreas and had her liver repaired. She had a total of six incisions to get to all her vital organs that needed attention. Were it not for Dr. Schwartz, I don't know that Sadie would have survived that night. In the hands of a lesser skilled and experienced surgeon, I am confident she would not be with us today. Now six weeks later, other than missing much of her hair because they had to shave her for the incisions, she is completely healed and back to normal. I can't thank Medvet and Dr. Schwartz enough for saving our little girl.

I don't know if it's possible to put into words the gratitude I feel for Dr. Della Ripa and the entire MedVet staff. Our dog, Murphy, was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Hemalytic Anemia and had little chance of surviving when she first came into the care of Dr. Della Ripa. She was so sick that she couldn't even lift her own head. To say her journey was not easy is a huge understatement - along the way she had pancreatitis, urinary tract infections that were resistant to almost all antibiotics and internal bleeding. Each of these things alone could have killed her (and almost did) but the fact that she had them while having IMHA and still survived is a testament to the brilliance of Dr. Della Ripa. He never gave up on her even when it looked hopeless. Today, Murphy is doing amazing and you would never know what she has been through. Thank you MedVet staff for loving Murphy like she was your own pet (I know she could feel it) and for being a place that my dog didn't want to leave. Thank you for crying with us on bad days and celebrating with us on good days. Thank you Dr. Della Ripa, for being an incredible vet and person and for saving the life of the thing we hold most dear. Murphy is alive because the care she received at MedVet and for that we will always be grateful.

Unfortunately for my dog, he's had to be seen at MedVet two different times for serious illnesses. The first time my dog was diagnosed with FCE. Fortunately, the illness is self-healing and my dog is fine today. Every day that my dog was at MedVet, Dr. Maritato called me with updates on his condition. The second time he was seen, I had been trying to figure out why my dog's liver enzymes continued to increase. I had tried everything for a year and then decided to take him to MedVet as I knew they would figure it out. Turned out he had a tumor on his liver. While his regular vet didn't recommend surgery, Dr. Maritato completely recommended surgery. I was very torn as to what to do as I wanted to do what was best for my dog. I ended up trusting Dr. Maritato and having the surgery done. I am SO glad I took Dr. Maritato's advice because things may not have gone so well had I waited. My dog is doing beautifully and I am so thankful to Dr. Maritato and ALL of the MedVet staff. Both of my visits were very emotionally difficult and the staff couldn't be nicer showing how much they care not only for your pet but also the owners.....and they truly mean it!!! I would recommend MedVet to anyone.

When I was first referred to Medvet I had been told that my 3 year old dog was dying from an unknown cause. My dog always had his shots, always had regular visits with our vet, was fed a premium dog food, was walked daily, was playful and happy and still he was dying. This news was very overwhelming and I really didnt know how to handle the situation. I had never had to consider putting down such a young and seemingly healthy animal. Dr. Della Ripa was very sympathetic and helped me understand what was happening to my dog and the steps necessary to treat him. Over the course of a year Dr. Della Ripa worked very closely with me and my family to determine the cause of my dogs illness. Over and over again my dogs symptoms seemed to point to different causes making it really difficult to determine the appropriate course of treatment. Dr. Della Ripa never gave up on my dog and worked tirelessly to bring him back to health. Today my dog is off all of his medication and his medical tests show that he is normal! I cant thank Dr. Della Ripa enough for all that he has done for me and my family and I highly recommend him to anyone whose animal needs specialized veterinary care.

Our older Husky/Lab mix,Ricky, was diagnosed with diabetes and as a result lost his eyesight early in 2010. Very fortunately,a staff member of our local vet had interned at MedVet (Cinn.) and told us about MedVet and Dr. Vanessa Kuonen Cavens. Dr. Kuonen performed Ricky's surgery, implanting new 'lens' in each eye,and he's once again enjoying his eyesight. Dr. Kuonen is a wonderfully talented, compassionate person, with all of the desirable qualities one looks for when seeking help. The entire staff at MedVet-Cinn. is outstanding; friendly, positive, and genuinely interested in assisting the client.

Thank you so very,very much!

I was referred to Dr. Kuonen Cavens by my own very trusted vet in Northern Kentucky. I had no idea that there were veterinarian opthamology specialists until that time. One night, my Shih tzu was unable to open or see through his right eye. Medvet res ponse and ability to get us in for a visit was instantaneous. Dr. Kuonen was very knowlegeable about the "dry eye" condition that she diagnosed. She outlined a plan of care for us to handle at home with a combination of medications that seemed endless. Needless to say, after 6 months and adjustments to the medication by the good doctor, there are no signs of his problem. I only wish that I could get this level of expertise and caring from my own doctor. Great job Dr. Kuonen and the staff at Medvets. Scott H.

Medvet cincinnnati is a wonderfull facility for 24 hour emergency pet care. Our 6 yr. old cat was seen by our local vet, diagnosed with diabetes and ketoacidosis. It was recommended that we go to medvet for emergency care. Dr. Della Ripa was the internist who saw, treated, and provided the necessary care, tests and treatments that stabilized and saved our cat's life. Xrays, lab tests, ultrasound, esophageal feeding tube and echocardiogram( by a cardiologist colleague) were carried out. It has been 7 wks since "Divot" (our cat) was 1st seen and treated. He has been home for 6 wks. His feeding tube was removed, and he is drinking water nicely, eating both canned and dry Rx. ordered food, active and overall doing very well. Dr. Della Ripa is a very caring, compassionate and skilled Dr. He was very informative and called daily to give us updates and progress reports. The whole experience was wonderful. I would highly recommend Dr. Della Ripa to my family, friends and co-workers. Medvet Cincinnati, and MedVet Dayton are both staffed with skilled, caring and pleasant personnel. Myself, my wife, and Divot are greatfull for the excellant care that was given. Merrill B

I have a yorkie that has, unfortunately, had to go to MedVet on two separate occasions. Aside from the stress and anxiety of having a hurt puppy, I have to say that I have had a great experience on both occasions. I specifically can speak for Dr. Maritato. When Tucker broke his leg when he was only 6 months old, Dr. Maritato was the one who fixed him. Dr. Maritato was always super professional and eager to answer all of my questions. He was also great about giving updates and even personally gave us a tour of the entire facility. Tucker has made a full recovery and you'd never know that he ever had a major surgery on his leg!! He runs around like the happy puppy he should be! I would absolutely recommend Dr. Maritato to anyone.

I now also have another dog ....( hopefully nothing happens to him* but if it did I would totally feel confident taking him to DR MARITATO).. He explains all procedures very well!! ..I have not had that with other vets!

Although pets are "just animals", they are very much loved members of one's family. It is important to us to be able to receive specialized care for our beloved pets when needed. MedVet and Dr. DellaRipa provided that specialized care with great concern for not only our pet, but for our abilities to provide that care as well. We are thankful to have been referred to MedVet and specifically Dr. DellaRipa. Our goal, as well as Dr. DellaRippa's, is, and continues to be, to provide the best possible quality of life for our dog. We have achieved this goal and will always be thankful for the time we will have with our special dog!

It certainly didn't look good for my littlest shih tzu,Teddy Bear, when we walked into MedVet Cincinnati. Our local vet, despite gallant efforts, was stumped, as well as another vet we had consulted for a second opinion. Teddy was getting sicker and sicker and was "melting away" before my very eyes. He had gone from 8.6 pounds to below 5 and losing ground quickly.

But then we had the good fortune to be referred to MedVet and the charming Dr. Della Ripa, made the old saying "Third time's a charm!" come true. I could instantly sense that he trulycared about Teddy Bear and had confidence he would find the answer, which he did! Teddy is back to 7.7 pounds (gaining daily) and playing again!

Dr. Della Ripa treated Teddy and me with such respect and empathy! It is rare to find such a knowledgeable, capable doctor with such "people (and dog)" skills! We were truly blessed to find Dr. Della Ripa and MedVet! Teddy Bear and I highly recommend them both!

My dog, Kaia, has had off and on lameness in her front leg for the last two years. Dr. Maritato and Dr. Schwartz were fantastically helpful in approaching her limping, offering methods that were non-invasive and non-surgical, invasive but non-surgical, and surgical. By taking a step-wise approach to improving her limp, we held off doing surgery until it was clear that other methods were not going to be adequate, while at the same time not changing her long term prognosis. The great thing about these two wonderful surgeons was that, when it wasn't absolutely necessary, they didn't push for surgery right off the bat! Now comes my disclaimer: I am a referring veterinarian as well. My experience with Drs. Maritato and Schwartz for my own pet makes me feel comfortable recommending my patients and clients to see these wonderful doctors to get the outstanding care that I received.

My cat Marco broke his back leg in August of this year resulting in a Femoral repair. When I took him to his local vet they referred me to Medvet. From the very first visit I felt assured that Marco would be well taken care of. Dr. Maritato was the best, he came in explained everything to me in detail about the surgery, and they were even willing to work with me and the insurance plan that I had to make sure that everything went smoothly for Marco. It is now November 2012 and Marco is back to his old self thanks to MedVet and Dr. Maritato. I cannot thank them enough!

Dr. Maritato was simply awesome in treating our dachshund Nellie. She had several herniated discs and was one of the worst cases he had seen. We were nervous about the procedure but Dr Maritato explained everything to us, including possible outcomes. He encouraged therapy with Shawn to help her regain strength .Nellie came through the surgery just fine and is walking normally and without pain.

Dr. Maritato and the staff at Medvet are the most wonderful people that I have experienced in such a large practice. A year ago my beagle, Kaille, was diagnosed with a tumor the size of a grapefruit on her liver. Because of the placement of the tumor the surgery was very dangerous. I was referred to Dr. Maritato for the surgery. I had a consult with him and he was very honest her chances of not making it through the surgery was high but leaving the tumor was a death sentence. I dropped her off the next day not knowing if I would see her again. Dr. Maritato called me before the procedure, had one of his assistants call me during the surgery and finally Dr. Maritato called me to tell me Kaillie came through the surgery with flying colors. I called about every 2 hours through the night and each time the attending nurse was so happy to give me an update. She spent 3 days with Medvet and was awarded best patient. I didn't mention Kaille was 11 years old. Unfortunately another tumor has appeared on the other side. She has had surgery and once again Dr. Maritato pulled her through at 12 years pld. I love this place and all the Doctors I have worked with over the last 4 years. I wish I could go to Medvet!!!!!

My Mocha was 3.5 weeks away from his 1st birthday when out of no where he started vomiting and becomming very lethargic. I stayed home from work and watched him and as it became worse I was recommened to go to MedVets. Within 30-45 minutes from arriving they determined that Mocha had a piece of corn cob stuck 1/2 way through his intestines. He had to have surgery to survive. Dr. Karl Maritato was his surgeon and he did surgery in the middle of the night and saved Mocha's life. He called me after surgery at 1:30am to let me know that everything went well and that Mocha did well during surgery. I was so relieve that he was ok! Mocha had to stay 3 days at MedVets and he received the best care possible. Dr. Maritato called me everyday to give me an update on Mocha. The care he received and the piece of mind I received was amazing. Dr. Maritato is awesome and I would recommend him to anyone. Today Mocha is as happy as a Lab could be. He has Dr. Maritato to thank for that.

Dr. Karl Maritato is nothing short of astonishing!! While I am late writing a review, words fail me as to the incredible quality of Medvet and staff. My Lab, Riley had significant issues with both hips. Dr. Maritato was Riley"s surgeon. After Riley's hip replacement ( the first done at Medvet, Cincinnati), Dr. Maritato kept in CONSTANT daily contact with me. Riley stayed at Medvet for about 6 weeks. He also had his own pen in a corner, as opposed to a kennel. The staff would bring him stuffed toys and treats. Today, I believe that there is a desk where Riley had his pen and it is called "Rileys Corner." If it were not for Dr. Maritato, I would have lost my beloved dog. He is the most sincere, caring physician that any animal or human! could ask for.

Our 2 year old golden required cruciate ligament sugery on both legs. Her injury was diagnosed and treated at Medvet in late May, and I am happy to report that now almost 4 months later she is just about back to normal. Dr.Maritato performed the surgery and could not have been more responsive and caring, he provided his cell phone and followed up with us more than we expected. The staff at Medvet were wonderful throughout her surgery and follow up visits, I would not hesitate to recommend them should you find yourself in need of emergency treatment or surgery for your pet. We did some rehab with Shawn and were very happy with this decision also, it did help Callie with her recovery.

We rescued our Westie Millie, she was a puppy mill mom, about two years ago. She started showing signs of pain in her back left leg. Our vet referred us to Dr. Maritato and within minutes he was able to diagnosis Millie as having two torn ACLs and Meniscus in both her hind legs. We were able to get her in for surgery that very next wk. They were so gentle with Millie and when we went back for her check ups Dr. Maritato and his staff were always so excited to see Millie. They remembered her personality and quirks, which made the experience very personal and not just another dog they were treating. In fact she jumped up and gave Dr. Maritato a kiss on her last check up which was the first time she had jumped up in months! Dr. Maritato and the staff made this emotional process less difficult and were always there when we had questions or concerns. Thanks!

Dr. Karl Maritato performed emergency surgery on my 12 year old Aussie Shepherd in April and saved his life. At MedVet they were compassionate, responsive, and my dog had his own one to one nurse (vet tech). Dr. Maritato was technically excellent, and answered all of our questions. Medvet saved our dog after she was hit by a car. We brought her in at 11:00 at night. They knew just what to do. The next day, Dr. Maritato saw her and took time to call us and tell us what her condition was and how he could help. He operated the next day. The staff was very clear about what we needed to do for our dog, and Dr. Maritato was so wonderful, both before and post op, explaining everything. And, our dog survived, recovered, and healed wonderfully! She is back to her usual energy and movement,, thanks to Dr. Maritato and the staff of Medvet. After several months of medications & tests with no positive results, I was referred to Dr. Karl Maritato for severe lameness in my sheltie, Cody. His quality of life had deteriorated to point of it completely changing his personality and it was clearly visible he was in EXTREME pain. I was concerned that there was a possibility I would have to put my "sweet" boy to sleep and had difficulty holding back my emotions.

The meds Dr. Maritato prescribed were successful in relieving Cody's pain and I can't express how grateful I am! His genuine concern and compassion truly touched my heart! THANK YOU SO MUCH Dr. Maritato! My boy is back to his bouncy, barky self!!!

Wow..Dr Karl Maritato can apply for BEST veterinary surgeon with an awesome "bedside" manner to go with it!! My TEN yr old Newf had ruptured BOTH cruciates in his knees and was unable to walk....the staff actually had to help carry in this 150# dog. Dr Maritato said he could repair both knees...6 weeks apart...and have him walking again. Because of the concern of the dogs age...they ran tests to make sure he was healthy and didn't have some underlying disease going on. They did ultra sounds, blood work, x-rays and all came back GREAT. Dr Maritato was so reassuring and has the pet and owners best interest at heart. He sat and talked with us at length after surgery, after x-rays and with follow up appts. and on the phone if we called. I never hesitated to ask him questions. It has been 12 weeks and 6 days and our Newfie is walking without assistance (you can see his progress on FB on Sebastian Cares) and maybe one day he can do what he loves best...return to being a therapy dog. I will always feel comfort knowing that Dr Maritato AND Med Vets is there for us. Dayton, OH is now honored with the MedVets team now in our area, and Dr Maritato, welcome to Dayton! It is OUR priveledge to have you here, too. And Dr Maritato, God Bless you sir!!!

Our 8 year old Beagle suffered agonizing pain from intervertebral disk disease. It was discovered he had a herniated disk located in the cervical spine which required surgery. The surgery went off without a hitch- and the staff was happy to give us updates as often as we wanted them while Hattie was in recovery. I am not a vet but the incision seemed very small and concise, and Hattie's knee completely healed after a few short weeks. She was back to chasing our other dog around in no time flat. I would highly recommend Dr. Schwartz for any of your surgical vet needs. She cares about pets like they are her own family and she is a very good surgical vet.
