I wouldn't go anywhere else for the world class treatment they provided to my Sophie. She was hit by a car and fractured her pelvis in 2 spots and dislocated her tail. Dr Schwartz was extremely knowledgeable and compassionate in explaining her surgical procedure for Sophie. The customer service from everyone- the receptionists, schedulers, surgical assistants, surgeons, techs, and physical therapists- were absolutely fantastic!!! I knew she was in the best of hands!! They treated her as if she was their own pet. I am incredibly grateful!!!

Walter the Beagle is no stranger to the vet's office and when he ruptured a disk in his neck his primary vet immediately referred us to MedVet. Dr. Schwartz saw him first thing the next day and after confirming the diagnosis scheduled him for surgery the same day. She put me at ease with a detailed and simplified explanation of what was wrong and how it would be fixed. He came through his surgery with flying colors and improved so quickly he was discharged after only one night. His recovery was complete and he's back to his old self. Dr. Schwartz took great care of him, as did everyone at MedVet. She is friendly and personable - makes you feel like your pet is the most important patient she has! Although I hope to not have to make use of her services again, if a situation arises I would not hesitate to take Walter to her for help. Another pleasant outcome was the the total cost ended up in the low to mid-range of the estimate I was given up front. Very positive experience overall!

When we got the diagnosis of bilateral Hip Dysplasia for Stanley, we were overwhelmed. A puppy under a year, screaming out in pain from his hip bones rubbing together. But our vet was quick to recommend Medvet, and urged us to go sooner rather than later. At Medvet, Dr. Maritato was very comforting, letting us know that this was something we could get ahead of because Stanley was still young. Unfortunately because of back yard/irresponsible breeders, HD is quite common in dogs. They are born with it, and usually only show symptoms later on. But if you can catch it, it does not have to be a death sentence! The recovery seemed overwhelming for the first few days, but it became easier as the days went on, and now it seems like the time flew by! Before his surgery, Stanley couldn't use the stairs, he couldn't jump onto the couch, and he spent most of the day lying around whimpering and softly crying (if not screaming out). Now, only 2 1/2 months out of surgery he is finally able to run and play like the puppy he never got to be! Just yesterday he was chasing bubbles in the backyard! Our whole family is eternally grateful to Dr. Maritato and the Medvet team for giving our Stanley a wonderful, healthy, and happy life!

Our sweet little Gideon is so spoiled and sooooo loved by us. When he started walking one morning like his back legs were made of jello, we went on high alert! We immediately took him to another emergency vet that was listed on our personal vet's answering machine because it was on a Sunday and our vet was closed. The emergency vet we took him to was more interested in collecting the hundreds of dollars up front than finding out what was wrong with Gideon.... But we were desperate and needed answers...We got NO ANSWERS - - The next morning we took Gideon to our vet and he x-rayed and told us to get him to MedVet as soon as possible.....Spine injury was the verdict....We immediately got an appointment and met Dr. Schwartz....We were crying and blubbering all over the place and she was so kind and understood our emotional outbursts. She explained that Gideon had a disc that was pushing on his spinal cord and it needed to be removed or he would be paralyzed..... After she got inside she saw that another disc was pushing on the spine too.... He had the surgery - 2 nights in the hospital - and 2 months of therapy....I definitely recommend the cool laser therapy to help speed the healing and Gideon LOVED it! He's still a little week in the back legs but I'd say he's 90% back to his old self - running - playing and being the little boss of the house! The MedVet personnel are so kind and they truly love our fur babies! Thank you Dr. Schwartz!

Dr. Maritato performed two different procedures on our dog, Lucy and we were so impressed by the care and attention given to her. She recovered beautifully each time and is a happy, healthy, energetic lab. I would highly recommend Dr. Maritato for the care of your special pet.

We have taken both of our dogs to MedVet, wow, they are awesome! Dr. Maritato is absolutely wonderful, he takes the time to explain in great detail what is going to happen and is very compassionate. He fixed Hilo's torn ACL as well as Kona's herniated disc in his back. Can't thank them enough, we have two like new doggies again running around like they are one, it's awesome to see them romping around and playing with each other again. Thanks Dr. Maritato!!

My Friend Larry Chatt asked me to post this for him as he does not have a computer.

" My name is Larry Chatt, and I have a big beautiful dog with blue eyes names Nook. One Sunday, quite suddenly, Nook was unable to stand or walk on his back legs. I came to MedVet emergency and he was admitted. They examined him and thought he had a herniated disk. The next day, he was examined by Dr. Susanna Hinkle Schwartz and surgery was performed to remove the herniated disk in his neck. By Thursday, he was sitting up and moving around in his run. By Saturday, he was out of the run and could move himself around on the floor and by the following Monday, he could stand and and put weight on all four legs. He could walk outside with the help of a "help me up harness". At this time, he started physical rehabilitation with Shawn Zimmerman and her amazing team and was in the underwater treadmill. After 10 days, he was able to come home (I could not care for him until he was able to walk on his own as he is really large).

I kept him cage rested and continued with the physical rehabilitation and underwater treadmill and he continued to improve day by day.

Twenty-nine days after his surgery, I no longer had to keep him cage rested. The focus now turned to rehabilitation and over the next four weeks, I was able to walk him three to four times a day and gradually increased his activities back to abnormal life!!!

I cannot thank Dr. Schwartz enough. Because she was not only Nook's surgeon, she was also his friend!!!!

Our dog, Mika, tore her ACL two days before Christmas. MedVet got her in immediately to see a doctor and a surgeon, scheduled her for surgery the next morning and got her on the road to recovery. They helped us through the lengthy rehab process and now Mika is back to normal. I can't thank them enough for the excellent care they provided for our sweet girl. We would recommend them to anyone.

I cannot say enough thank yous to the doctors at Medvet, especially Dr. Maritato, for saving my chocolate lab's life. Nala was suffering from abdominal bleeding and would not have survived without the quick action of the admitting vet followed by the surgery to remove a tumor that caused a ruptured spleen. Dr. Maritato's surgical skills and warm personal care for our dog and for us was outstanding. I knew that Nala was in the best hands possible during her time at the hospital. She is 6 weeks post surgery and thriving. Thanks to everyone at Medvet. You cannot find a better place for the care of your pets!

Our Heidi had to have both of her ACL's repaired by Dr. Maritato within a year of the previous surgery. The staff and Dr. Maritato have been very accommodating and the care of Heidi has been phenomenal. I was able to email and get updates on her care at any time from Dr. Maritato saving us trips to Medvet at all hours. A very stressful time, was made easier by these kind and considerate folks. We are now looking forward to a spring and summer full of adventure that she has not been able to partake in for the last year.

Dr. Maritato repaired a severe luxating patella on my chihuahua. I had concerns about her being under anesthesia for long periods of time due to her size. Dr. Maritato was very reassuring, explaining the entire procedure and put my worries to rest. He is a very skilled surgeon and came very highly recommended. The care my dog was given was phenomenal. I never felt rushed or felt like my dog was just another dog. Her recovery was great and she is now living a more comfortable life thanks to Dr. Maritato and his staff. I would highly recommend him!

Late in 2013, our 8-year-old sidekick, Wally, was diagnosed with a plasmacytoma on the roof of his mouth: a challenging place for surgery.

Over the course of just a few days, Dr. Maritato and the rest of the team at MedVet Cincinnati worked closely with our great primary vet at Animal Hospital on Mt. Lookout and completed the surgery needed to rid the tumors from our dog. They were completely available for our questions during his multi-week recovery and even proactively checked in with us on his progress at home.

Wally's scars are now completely healed and you wouldn't even know he had such an overt surgery. We've unfortunately (for our dog) had to work with the talented emergency and internal medicine teams at MedVet Cincinnati on a couple occasions over the past few weeks. Like the surgical teams, the love for our dog was apparent through their actions and their constant interaction with our primary vet. Wally is now back on track and leaping through our Cincinnati snow.

My 2 yr old male greyhound was at the dog park running with his grey sister when he ran full speed into a bench breaking his leg. I first took him to my vet after examining him, my vet did not have the surgical skills to repair his leg they recommended MedVet. They called set up the appointment that day. When I arrived with my boy the staff was waiting for him. After Dr Maritato reviewed the x-rays and examined Odin, Dr Maritato talked to me about what needed to be done, he explained everything fully to me. i received an estimate of cost, the actual cost was lower than the estimate. Odins surgery was schedule for the next day because of concern over putting him under anesthesia twice in less than 24 hours. I was worried all night long and could not sleep. I called Med vet at least four times through the night checking on him each time the techs and everyone I talked with were super, answered my question very quickly. After the surgery I received call from Dr Goldlin she explained everything that the surgery team did to repair Odins leg. I ask if i could visit with Odin i was allowed a short visit with him that evening. Odin had a few problems during the healing process that meant I had to bring him in a few times a week for bandage changes and a few other small things. Everytime I would arrive the staff would call Odin by name as he walked through the door, his tail would start wagging and he go in back happily with whomever was there. I believe Odin knew everyone at medVet was there to help him so he was happy to go with everyone or it could have been for the peanut butter they gave him. Dr Maritato and the surgery staff at MedVet Cincinnati gave me back my Little Man Odin. I highly recommend Med Vet for surgery. Thanks again for everything that was done for Odin.

Our 6 year old Bullmastiff had to have ACL surgery in October 2013. After 3 months, we could not be happier with MedVet. Dr. Schwartz and the staff were amazing throughout the whole process. Anytime we had a question or concern we could call and speak with a staff member and Dr. Schwartz. I would recommend MedVet to anyone needing serious medical for their pet.

My Australian Cattle Dog Ranger Ray tore his ACL. I was referred to Dr. Maritato for surgery and from the reviews, I was afraid it would not work. I was treated with much kindness from the ladies in the lobby and Dr. Maritato was very assuring it would be successful. Ranger had the surgery and he is like a new dog. They send you home with specific instructions and make sure you are comfortable with what you need to do. Shawn also met with me to guide me to the proper therapy at home. I am thankful for Dr. Maritato and the staff at Medvet as they helped my 2yr old baby have a new life. Thank you

It has been six months this week since our toy poodle, Abbey, had her disc surgery. Abbey is doing very well. Obviously, she wants to run up stairs and jump off the couch. Of course, she can't do this anymore, but this is how much energy and lack of pain that she now has. Prior to surgery, she was definitely in a lot of pain.

Dr. Schwartz, Abbey's surgeon, did an excellent job evaluation of her disc problems, explained to us what the procedure would be and the long recovery Abbey would have. The surgery went very well and with the help of the physical therapists, Shawn and her staff, Abbey is doing great. It is a real problem to not have her jumping around, but to see her so energetic again is really great. We thank the staff at MedVet for their help with Abbey.

We especially appreciated Dr Schwartz and Shawn for keeping us thoroughly informed of what to expect and what to do with Abbey to have a successful outcome.

We took our 9 year old Golden to Dr. Schwartz with horrible pain in his back legs. Dr. Schwartz quickly determined that he had ruptured 2 discs in his back which required immediate surgery. Despite the frightening situation, we felt comforted and informed throughout the entire process by Dr. Schwartz and the entire MedVet staff. We did our entire rehab through MedVet and we are happy to say that Brock has made a full recovery thanks to Dr. Schwartz and the MedVet team.

We brought our rescue dog into MedVet because she was showing signs of pain in her hips. We thought it was Hip dysplasia. It turned out that she had disk problems. In addition, we found out that she had a torn ACL (probably from trying to catch the deer in our neighborhood!). Dr. Maritato said that he could decompress her spine with surgery. We did a lot of research on many surgery vets in the Cincinnati area as well as surrounding areas. We wanted the best care for our little girl Emma. After a lot of research and calls to other vets, we were told that Dr. Maritato was the most recommended veterinarian surgeon for the job. He performed the surgery and fixed her ACL during the same procedure. He explained that the recovery period was extremely important for her recovery. We followed all of the instructions very carefully and Emma is now doing really great. We were confident in Dr. Maritatos ability to do the surgery because we called at least 15 vets asking their opinions- he did not disappoint us at all. In addition, it was refreshing to have a specialist that genuinely cared about Emma. He was always excited to see her and got down to kiss her hello and goodbye. And even after all she went through, Emma loves to go visit him. I would recommend Dr. Maritato do perform any surgery on any dog that I own. We take our dogs care very seriously- and so does Dr. Maritato. No need to research his abilities- we did that research. No need to research his level of love and care for his patients- we saw that first hand. Great experience overall.

Our dog, Burley needed spinal surgery in order to walk again. Thanks to Dr. Schwartz and the staff at MedVet, Burley is doing great! Not only did they care for Burley while at MedVet, we have received excellent support ensuring that Burley recovered well after we brought him home. They provided detailed instructions on how to care for him, and answered all of our many questions in depth. We would recommend MedVet and Dr. Schwartz to anyone! We can't thank them enough for saving our best friend.

My dog required bilateral knee surgery. Dr Maritato and the MedVet staff were wonderful. When my dog opened one of the wounds, Dr Maritato asked us to send him pictures of the wound every other day so he could keep an eye on it, without us having the hassle of taking the dog into the office so often. He was quick to respond to any questions I had as well. I would highly recommend MedVet to anyone needing specialized care.

My dog, Remy, ruptured a disc and was paralyzed. I was referred by my vet to MedVet. Dr.Schwartz operated 5 weeks ago. Remy has had ongoing therapy with Shawn and Dan. Remy is perfect now--still not released to do stairs, but that will come soon. I think all the staff, including front office staff, are miracle workers. I am always treated with respect and honesty, and all of my questions and concerns are dealt with effectively. I am thrilled with all the staff at MedVet

Our kitty, Alfie, ruptured a disk in his back and was paralyzed in his back legs. Our regular vet sent us to MedVet right away but said that with the extent of the paralysis he wasn't sure that there was anything they could do. When we got to MedVet we met Dr. Schwartz, Alfie's hero! After some tests and a neurology consultation Dr. Schwartz said that she believed Alfie had a good chance of making a great recovery if he had surgery but that it would take time for him to walk again. The team at MedVet was great at walking us though the process and giving us frequent updates on Alfie! Alfie's surgery was on a Tuesday and we were able to bring him home on Thursday. We thought it would be at least a couple of weeks before he could even start trying so walk again... So we were ecstatic when we brought him home Thursday and he started walking! It has been a little over a month since Alfie's surgery and his recovery has been amazing! We so appreciate Dr. Schwartz and the team at MedVet!

My dog had to receive radiation and the level of care and understanding from Dr. Lasher was exceptional. I knew my dog was receiving the best care possible. She then had to go through an amputation handled with just as much care and compassion from Dr. Schwartz. She kept me well informed every step of the way. I knew my dog was in good hands with every staff member who took care of her. The surgery went great as well as the after care. She continues o see Dr. Laasher and every step of the process I am well informed and always know my questions will be answered.

Over the past year we have had very good experiences with MedVet Cincinnati's surgery (Dr. Schwartz), oncology (Drs. Valerius and Faller), rehab PT (Shawn, Kenny, Dan), and all the support staff. Our 13 year old Standard Schnauzer, Rowdy, was diagnosed with lung cancer in Oct. 2012. Our usual vet referred us to MedVet for this complicated treatment. Dr. Schwartz was very thorough to explain the surgery options. She called us from the operating room to let us know what she found and the extent of the cancer. She always answered our questions. After recovering from the surgery Rowdy moved on to the oncology docs (Valerius and Faller) who explained the options and oversaw Rowdy's series of IV chemo treatments. By now Rowdy was getting to be a familiar face around MedVet. He was always warmly greeted by the staff. Rowdy's medical troubles continued when he tore an ACL a few weeks after surgery. That meant he went to PT to try to strengthen his leg while he was still on chemo. The PT staff got to know Rowdy well as he was a twice weekly visitor for several months. As with the other MedVet areas, the PT folks were great with us and with Rowdy. In April 2013 he met the scalpel of Dr. Schwartz once again, this time to do a TTA for his torn ACL. More recovery and more PT to rehab. Rowdy is taking long walks and enjoying life. He is cancer-clear so far and has a fully working leg. Thanks to all at MedVet who have helped our Rowdy!! We appreciate their medical knowledge, skill, and bedside manner a lot.

I was referred to Med Vet, specifically Dr. Maritato, because my 11 year old westie Nessie had been suffering quite a while with chronic ear infections and benign tumors in her right year. Her dermatologist thought she was going to need a total ear canal removal. I was very hesitant to have the surgery because I was basically afraid for her, until Dr. Maritato walked into the room to have the consultation with me. He is so nice, and explains everything for you. He made me realize that the surgery needed to be done, and he performed the same surgery on his own dog! She was scheduled for surgery the next day. I was an emotional wreck when I dropped her off the next morning. The front desk staff was very sympathetic and supportive. Dr. Maritato called me before surgery to go over a couple of things, and his surgery tech called me right before the surgery started. Dr. Maritato called me when the surgery was completed to let me know Nessie did great! Nessie had to stay over night, and the staff was great about talking with me when I called to check on her multiple times. I got to pick her up the next afternoon. I was explained in great detail all of her meds and instructions for being at home. Nessie recovered very nicely. Dr. Maritato removed her stitches almost a week ago, and she was happy to see him! He simply is the best!!!

My long haired dashund who is 13 yrs old went to chase a squirrel, and herniated a disk in her back which left her paralyzed.I picked her up and took her to Medvet immediately. They said that she had an 85% chance of walking again if I could afford the surgery, which I did.She was walking within two weeks.I took her for her final checkup in seven weeks.Dr. Susanna Hinkle Schwartz was amazed at how far she had come in that short period of time. She was 95% healed.Shawn, the rehab therapist also did her part to get Sherri to that point.I am very pleased with medvet and the staff.I would not hesitate to go there again if needed.

I am not one to write a review but I felt that I needed to write about Dr. Della Ripa and his wonderful staff. Our collie Einstein was brought to MedVet for pneumonia but the route of his problem was that he was aspirating food into his lungs because he could no longer swallow. Dr. Della Ripa worked quickly to diagnose the issue but in the meantime he put a port into Einstein's stomach so he could be tube fed. Dr. Della Ripa was also very considerate in not rushing to do expensive tests right away on remote possibilities. Einstein was diagnosed with an autoimmue disease, myasthenia gravis, he may or may not be able to eat meals on his own again but he doesn't seem to mind and is doing very well with the feeding tube (we have been feeding him this way for over six weeks now!). If it wasn't for the fact that Einstein now wears a tee shirt to protect the port, nobody would suspect that anything was wrong with him. The care and concern exhibited by Dr. Della Ripa and his staff are superb. The biggest testament of how much they care is that when Dr. Della Ripa comes into the exam room Einstein is truly glad to seem him. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Della Ripa to anyone that has a pet in need of expert veterinarian attention.

Dr. Karl Maritato is a first-class surgeon. He removed a tumor from my dog's hip, and my dog is back to a normal life. The entire staff at Med Vet is caring and knowledgeable. My dog is not just a dog, but he is a member of my family. I sought out the best and that's what I got. I would recommend Dr. Maritato and Med Vet. for animal lovers who care about their pets.

We were referred to Dr. Maritato by our vet due to significant muscle atrophy and pain in our 2year old dogs hind legs. Her mobility was affected and she could barely go up or down stairs or even stand up from a sitting or laying position. Dr. Maritato determined that our dog had bilateral ACL tears and recommended a bilateral TTA surgery. She was home 2 days after surgery and we were given excellent discharge instructions with information on her precautions, various modalities and exercises. 16 weeks post surgery, we have an energetic puppy again. She can run and play without difficulty. She continues to get more strength in her hind legs everyday and is one happy dog again. We had a wonderful experience at medvet. All the staff were fabulous, helpful and caring.

We visited MedVet Cincinnati to have several troublesome lumps removed from our 8 year old Beagle. Dr Maritato is an amazing surgeon, who is actually capable of communicating with his patients (owners). He clearly explained the situation, the solution and any possible issues that could arise. He exuded confidence when discussing his strategy - this gave us confidence in a time that can be very difficult to go through. The Surgeon and his staff took excellent care of our baby and it was with obvious excitement that he delivered the news to us that all lumps were benign. Would highly recommend Dr Maritato, his staff, and MedVet Cincinnati. Prior to committing to the surgical plan, I did a lot of due diligence on the surgeon... nothing but awesome reviews. He delivered exactly what we were expecting at that point - world class care!

We were referred to Dr Maritato by our vet. Our nine month old rescue, a coonhound, had a back leg that was fused and did not bend. Dr M determined that surgery was the best option and that he would take off the entire leg. We were very concerned as he seemed to handle his inconvenience and was happy. Dr M told us that he will adapt without the leg and be faster with it removed. It's been three months now since surgery and he gets around on three legs and doesn't hesitate to mix it up with other dogs.
The entire staff at MedVet was great, everything went according to plan and we were kept up to speed following the procedure.

We could not be happier with the procedure and the outcome for Gus!! The bionic boy seems to be doing fine! Running and playing as he previously had done before the ruptured cranial cruciate ligament.

Dr. Karl and his staff were so helpful and soooo compassionate. Dr. Karl's personal attention was amazing and so much appreciated. HE was the one who called us to let us know how the procedure with Gus went, and HE was the one that took the time with the initial consult to explain everything. He also met with us at the 6 week evaluation. A staff member could have done that, but he did it. We couldn't have been more pleased with him, the staff, and the facility! We highly recommend Dr. Karl and MedVet, Cincinnati!
