ADT security systems also have a back up battery pack that can and will power the system for days if for any reason the power is cut off. Theres no worries when you are away from your home with ADT no matter how long you stay away, because you can check on your home and its security system with a simple phone call directly to your system and it will tell you its status.

Do not waste your money and security on ADT. You spend more than a $1,000 getting set up, then you pay a monthly fee of $29.95. Within six months the sensors begin to fail and you get nuisance alarms. When you complain, ADT tells you it's the batteries. You replace the batteries at $6 each with no effect and ADT tells you it's still the batteries . . . They offer to come out and check your sensor and fix them for about $185 each. Then you start turning off "zones" to stop the nuisance alarms. Finally when you've had enough and cancel, they skin you for another month's fee -- the 30-day notice provision. In brief, ADT's technology is shoddy and their business practices are abusive.

ADT is the best company when it comes to security. They have a lifetime warranty on all equipment, 36 hour service call response time (try getting those other companies to do that) world class service!!

When I first got the alarm system about 10 years ago, as soon as the alarm sounded (twice in 10 years), ADT would telephone me immediately to see if I was o.k. When the alarm went off not very long ago, it took over 5 minutes for ADT to telephone me. After waiting and not hearing from them, I myself telephoned 911. After a few minutes more, ADT finally telephoned. I could have been dead by the time they called. I also understand that if ADT cannot contact you, they telephone the second number on the list, asking them to check, and then they call the police. By that time, my house would have been cleaned out, or I could have been attacked. When my contact expired, I did not renew. They used to be such a good company.

You need to have a phone line for the monitoring service and sign a 3 year contract. But - do the sums, you'll see that this works out cheaper in the long term than others. If you move house within the 3 years then you can opt to carry your contract to your new house (obviously it has to have an ADT alarm, or you get another fitted). All in all, I think that having an ADT box on the outside of my home is a sure way to tell all the opportunist intruders that I'm not messing around when it comes to home security. Granted, it is 25/month, but for that I get piece of mind knowing that if my alarm goes off for any reason, I get police/fire brigade response and I know that someone is on their way in an emergency. I found that going to an ADT authorised dealer was cheaper than going direct to ADT. Once installed, you are 'handed over' to ADT for the term of your contract.
