I'm not going to lie to you. The Recording Connection will not get you a position in a studio. It will not win you a Grammy, and it will not get you producing on Britney's next album. What it will do is give you the basic skills of this trade. It will give you a foot in the door with a real studio, full of people who make a living doing what you want to do (which is not easy today!). It will give you a chance to meet the people who make the music you love, through every step of the process. It will give you a chance to prove your value to a very small, very tight-knit group of professionals in an industry that is outright hostile to most newcomers. Remember, at its heart, making records is a service industry. Be of service.

Work hard. Remain positive. Learn how to talk to engineers, producers, and musicians. Look for opportunities as they present themselves, and you could very well be running a studio after your course is over.

Today, I work as a freelance engineer, with opportunities to book sessions at several studios in the area, including the one I studied at whenever I would like. I am a business partner with my instructor, running a business we built together during my time with the Recording Connection. We record in just about any basement or garage we can fit into, as well as on stage and in local studios. I spend my day surrounded by gear, thinking about recording and ways to improve.

And my mixes? A lot better.

All I can say to you is that this program is truly what you make of it. Reach as high as you dare. The Recording Connection has the potential to take you all the way.

The studio itself was a very creative environment, good sound, great equipment easy to manage. My mentor really wanted to make sure I got to know everything they had learned along the way that contributed to their success in the business.

With the help of Recording Connection mentor I realized my dream of producing a full-length Bollywood-style album, sung in Hindi. I got to work with great musicians, a mixing and mastering engineer from India, several Grammy winners and a well-known Bollywood singer. The experience has been amazing.

My plan is to finish producing my band's third album. I've also started my own recording studio and label. Two additional artists have already agreed to join my label. I'd like to continue doing this for years to come.

What surprised me the most about studio life, was how much time it takes to really get the final product the way you want it. (The music business is) Very busy, very time consuming.. Yet exciting. Making deadlines, marking the calendar. There's a lot of people relying on you, and you're also relying on them. It seems like a lot to handle, but if you've got the love for it, that's exactly what the Recording Connection is there for.

I still remember my first day at the Recording Connection. The studio manager was there and gave a very inspiring speech, saying that those students that are training, including me, need to get into that recording room and sit in on these sessions as much as possible, because this is the point of the program, and of having a mentor. From that point on, I got the bug to get in these sessions from start to finish, and once I started to do this, more and more opportunities began to arise. To this day, after graduating the program, I am still working with my mentor, doing long hours in the studio to continue fine-tuning my skills within the music industry. I was first offered a job as an intern, which I gladly accepted. From there, I was promoted to the Assistant Engineer. I basically worked my way from the bottom up, in order to really establish a position for myself, and this is exactly what I accomplished. The Recording Connection provides people with the opportunity to get their foot in the door. All students are not all alike, we are from all different walks of life, and the Recording Connection helps us all.
