.

I was insured through Mr. Lovitt's agency and suffered a fire loss to my home during the summer of last year. Despite my initial attempts to contact him he never returned my calls. I ended up working directly with his insurance carrier, State Farm, and, without any advice from him, had a very difficult time in properly collecting for my claim. Were it not for the fact that I have been an insurance agent for many years I would have never received proper payment for my claim. It was a very difficult situation as his carrier, State Farm, did everything within it's power to deny me, or limit, my benefits as detailed in my policy. I now scoff at the commercials that I see on TV regarding State Farm agents as, believe me, they will not be there when you need them and are not ""good neighbors"". The fact is that State Farm agents can not be involved in helping you in a claim situation as is evinced by Mr Lovitt's failure in my particular situation. I am glad that he has achieved the million dollar life insurance status for his company on what is over-priced coverage, as, having knowledge of his business, I know that this is most important in keeping him in good stead with his company. As a professional independent insurance agent for over 35 yrs I would be embarrassed to have performed so poorly for one of my customers. Perhaps if I was politically connected or of financial significance in Mr. Lovitt's community he may have dealt with me differently. But, I am not and, I must conclude that I was merely a bad mark on his loss-ratio with State Farm and someone he would have rather not have dealt with.\n\nPS Mr Lovitt: After working through several layers of State Farm's loss adjusting staff and having received many instances of incorrect and/or deceitful interpretations of my coverages, I was finally able to (with the assistance of the Ohio Dept of Ins) to obtain a reasonable settlement fr your carrier. Your lack of assistance in this matter is greatly unappreciated.
