I am associated with Andrews University, and for the last 3 years i have insured my motor vehiles with State Farm. Its agent is Chris Osb***. in 2010 my monthly premium was $112. in 201 it went upto $121. Then in 2012 it was $130. But in Jan., 2013 it shot off the roof; a mega increase by 90%!!! From Jan-Jul (i did not know that) I was being charged $224.00/month! Since i never received any notice of this increase i did not know. But when i checked my bank statement for the month of July, i discovered this for the first time. I right away set an appointment to see the agent. and i also requested the copies of my statement. The office secretary told me that they can only provide statements from 2011 & forward. as soon as i showed, the Agent said, "we are not going to talk about 2010-2012. we're only going to talk about 2013." then i pointed out "Sir, the premium increase of 2013 cannot be separated from the first 3 years." Then he snapped, "sorry, then we are done! there is nothing to talk about." I reminded him that "upto Nov.2012 my premium was $130, but Jan. 2013 there was an increase of almost 80-90%, i needed to know what happened." Then he lectured to me on how i should constantly watch my bank checking account, this and that, blah, blah, blah." I interrupted, "sir, how one manages his/her finance has nothing to do with this. I have never received, a letter from State Farm advicing me of the increase. and if any has been sent, i'd be happy to see the copy of that. Also, i'd be happy to see the things that factored in this increase." and then he poured out a laundry list of what he said were the factors "the economy, fuel price, cost of living, blah, blah, blah..." When i noticed that he was so evasive and vague, i again remined him that the increase was almost 80-90%, and rquested him to be a bit specific. Then the hell broke loss, he became fiery red, so embarassingly emotional, raised his voice and said, "this is a hard thing and im trying to explain to you. you must respect me. sit quitely and listen. if you are not going to respect me, you will get out." I was a bit shocked, and not knowing to respond - gave an embarrassed smile.Ooops! that made the situation even worse. He sprang out from his chair and went for the door. "im done! get out!" This time i realised that the situation was getting a bit 'silly'. I asked him, "do you always do that to your clients who have geniune concerns? Look, i am your client. and I have been OVERCHARGED for the last 6 months. I am seeking redress. but for the last hour, you have evaded the issues, and when you talk, your answers are so vague. Besides, you have dominated about 80% of the conversation." and then he sat down, waved his fingers at me and said, "this is a complicated this, you shouldt ask question. just sit and listen. if you talk again, you will get out. and i can transfer your auto insurance to someone else." So i sat quite for another 20 minutes as he went blah, blah, blah. When he himself, realised tht he ran out of his silly excuses, he finally admitted, "i do not have the answers. But i can get then for you from the underwriters." I said, "when can you get those information?" "soon" he responded. I said, "then shall we schedule another meeting?" He agreed to that. He further added, "If we have charged you more, we shall refund." I am international student here at andrews, and i have met alot of great American. But now i realise that i for my auto insurance, i have been dealing with someone who is not so worthy of my pennies. I will have to wait and see what he says. and update you guys. But if anyone (especially an International student) is contemplating an auoto insurance with State Farm, please go to another Agent. Just because Chris Osborn is right at our get, do NOT settle for convinience. He is unreasonable, angry, evasive, abusive & thretening. Go the Niles or Bridgement, Benton Harbor or even better try AAA, AllState, etc.
