    .

We are here for the winter and had just purchased a used 1 ton Ford diesel in September to pull our fifth wheel for 7 months of the year. We wanted to make sure that it was up to snuff before we pulled out in the spring since we knew next to nothing about diesels. Took it to store #25 on Dysart Rd. In January of 2014 just to have them give it a once over. We had no problems with it to date. They came back with issues that totaled $2900 that needed to be fixed! They said that there was nothing wrong with the engine but that we needed everything totally replaced that had to do with the rear brakes, including the rotors and the calipers. My hubby was suspicious since he has only had to have calipers replaced once in 45 years and that was due to leakage. We had also heard no noise that would indicate that the rotors needed to be replaced (metal on metal). They also told us that our rear shocks were blown out, the brake hoses were too short due to a 2 inch lift kit, we had a rear axle seal leaking, and we needed a parking brake cable on the right rear replaced. Sooo, long story short, we finally managed to locate a small garage with an outstanding reputation and took it to them. They agreed that we needed some new pads on the rear brakes but found no reason to turn the rotors, let alone replace them. The cost to fix the brakes will be $241. The axle leak is $311. The only thing going on with the shock is that they have been dinged up due to the previous owner probably four-wheeling. They should be replaced before we take off again since the dents may cause them to stick and not come back up but they are not "blown". They gave us three options for good, better, and best shocks and that will cost us $310 for the better ones. they said that unless we are going to go off road, the brake hose length is fine. Grand total comes to just under $900. That is $2000 less than Greulichs! I will never go back there again. Avondale Service and Repair on Western Rd. will always get our business when we come back for more preventative maintenance. We even had a gentleman sitting in the waiting room that told us that these guys are honest and he had been going to them for 37 years. He also said that you can have lots of customers but you only have one reputation and these guys are the best.
