Hotel Icona is the new name for Pier 6600 hotel where my family has vacationed every summer for several decades. Unfortunately, because of horrible customer service, and bizarre changes to the hotel design, I had to find a new hotel to stay at this summer.

Starting in late January, I called Hotel Icona several times. Nobody ever answered the phone, and although I left messages at least 6 times, nobody ever called me back. I left a message on their Facebook page stating that I wanted to ask a few questions before I rented a room, and I got a reply redirecting me to their internet reservation website. It became very apparent that I could not speak to a human being at this hotel.

The other issue is the redesign of the hotel rooms. Traditionally, most of the rooms at Pier 6600 were 2-room efficiencies with two double beds and a pull-out couch. This type of room could comfortably sleep 6 people, and cost $190-$240 during July and August. Based on their website, their efficiencies now have a single king bed and a couch, and can fit at most 4 people.

For the privilege of having one less bed, the rooms during the peak summer season now cost around $330 per night. I don't mind paying more money, but none of their rooms can accomodate my family. Hotel Icona is clearly not looking to attract families, and I will not be staying there this summer.
