I'm a military member currently in bed in Tampa, FL awaiting spinal surgery. Clara, my puppy, has been in pain for 4 plus weeks, favoring her front left or possibly right leg. I have not been able to get her to a vet because I have been bed bound and my spouse has been working full time and taking care of me. Finally, my 75 year old mother came to help us out. We made an appointment with Dr. LaFrank, whom I know not only from the vet but also outside of the clinic. We specifically asked for him because Dr. Harris misdiagnosed my other dog with two cancerous lumps and said he needed surgery right away. Well, turns out one tumor disappeared in 3 days and the other was almost gone on the day that he was supposed to have surgery which was a week later. Bottom line is, it wasn't cancer and Dr. LaFrank confirmed that prior to surgery. I don't trust Dr. Harris and only wanted my other animal Clara to be seen by Dr. LaFrank. Well it takes a lot for my mother to get ready for a trip with a dog and get Clara to the vet. When she arrived, they asked my mom if it would be OK if Clara is seen by Dr. Harris. My mom said no, as she and I discussed, and my mom said she would wait for Dr. LaFrank. They put my Mom and Clara in an exam room and in came Dr. Harris. At that point I'm not sure what happened but the lady at the front desk, with whom I spoke on the phone later that day, said, "it's not our fault that your mom (my 75 year old mom) didn't realize it wasn't Dr. LaFrank that was seeing your dog Clara." I guess if my mom knew either one of the doctors or knew that Harris was a woman and LaFrank was a man, maybe she could have made that distinction. Speaking with my mom, they were bound and determined not to let my little Clara be seen by the doctor of my choice. Instead she had to be seen by the doctor who almost caused my other pet to be operated on for no reason and misdiagnosed CANCER.
So after my little Clara has been limping around my yard and home for 4 weeks, suddenly, she didn't limp at all, none whatsoever for Dr. Harris. This to me is absolutely impossible to believe but that's apparently what Dr. Harris claimed. So after an examination Dr. Harris said there was nothing wrong with my little girl. The same doctor that said my other dog had cancer, and didn't, evaluated Clara and said nothing was wrong with her even though she's limping still to this very moment.
After getting this information from my mother, I called Dr. LaFrank and left a message for him to call me and I was told that he would when he was done with the exam he was currently giving. He never called. I called back towards closing time and asked again to speak with him and was put on hold for ten minutes. At the end of the ten minutes the front desk clerk told me that he went home. Needless to say that the conversation turned not so nice and the lady on the phone told me that they would never treat my mother the way that they did and that it was my mom's fault, my 75 year old mom's fault, that they made my Clara be seen by the wrong doctor. Even though we made the appointment for Dr. LaFrank and that my Mom said that she would wait for Dr. LaFrank. It was still her fault, all while I'm laying in a bed in Tampa, waiting on spinal surgery this Friday. I still don't know what they charged us but most importantly, my POOR LITTLE CLARA IS IN TERRIBLE PAIN AND STILL HAS NO RELIEF. I'm so sad for my dog. I can't do anything at all to help her out. I now have to find another vet prior to my surgery and hopefully get her in to relieve some of her pain. Why couldn't that doctor just give her pain medicine or some sort of anti-inflammatory medicine? I was giving Dr. LaFrank's vet business a chance because I liked him and I considered him a friend. No friend of mine would let my dog go though more pain and also not return or answer my call when my dog's health is at risk. PS: This isn't the first time that I had an appointment with Dr. Lafrank and was made to seen by a different vet. Actually this was the third time. I'm sick of it.
