Beware! I hired this contractor through Angie's List. Being a first time Angie's List user, I failed to recognize that, despite Angie's List advertising him as a high-rated contractor, that was not the case. I overlooked all of the "F" ratings he had received. l hired him to repaint 75% of my house and remove the wallpaper. When he arrived to give me an estimate, he was full of personality. His estimate came in high ($3850 for labor only), but I liked him, so I hired him. His first day on the job, he asked for $2500, which I gave him. He then disappeared for several hours and I realized, after checking my bank account that evening, that he had gone to a check cashing agency to cash my check. With him were two workers, both of whom seemed a bit "high" on something. Vincenzo suggested I paint the upstairs loft and hallway (upsell), and I agreed to that. He charged me another $1,100 for just that work. I moved out of my house temporarily while they were painting so as not to be in the way. By day three, after giving him another check for $1,000, his true personality began to show through. He became argumentative, degrading and his personality would change in the blink of an eye. Things became ugly when I texted him to ask that he discontinue parking in my driveway, as his van was dripping a three foot diameter of oil in my brand new snow white driveway. He admitted that he had "been down this road before" with customers being upset about the oil. My driveway was ruined! So as not to create a book here, the final day ended in the police being called. As I was putting all of my furniture back, I recognized that he and/or his workers had damaged a basically brand new stained glass lamp. I said something to him about the lamp. This sent him spiraling out of control. He had his son with him that day, and he became threatening. I asked his son to leave my house and he refused. I called the police. Once Vincenzo knew I was calling the police, he demanded I call them off; said to tell them I made a mistake. I refused and the dispatcher, who could hear his threats in the background, said she was not calling off the police; she had a duty to protect me. Vincenzo then opened two cans of paint, ran inside of my house and said he was going to throw them all over my walls and my furniture. I was near tears and told him that the police were coming; he would go to jail if he did that. His son boldly and proudly said to me "it ain't the first time he's done this and it won't be the last" (all with a huge smirk on his face). Thankfully, the police arrived and Vincenzo put the two cans of paint down. This was THE most awful experience I've ever had. I also learned that this man is not registered and/or insured to do business in the State of New Jersey, despite his misrepresentation that he was. Do NOT hire this company. You will regret it. He did tell me that he really didn't want to do the job and that is why he priced the job high. He said he only likes doing one room jobs and not "whole house" jobs. The icing on the cake was that he stole my ladder. When I wrote to him this evening via text asking him to please return it, his comment was "maybe the police stole it."
