They tricked me into a 12 month membership! Trying to save some money, I took a three month hiatus from Equinox to try these guys out and see if a cheaper gym would work out for me. I specifically told the membership lady about this and was assured I could cancel at any time. Now that I'm ready to go back (didn't like the gym, didn't have what I needed), apparently I signed up for a 12 month contract! And it was just the phrase "12 months" that was written in pen into a table somewhere.

The worst, misinformed customer service I've ever encountered.

I signed on and ended my contract immediately after the year was up. Not only did they not allow me to transfer gym memberships from one location to another without hiking up

I went from Bally's (awful) to 24 Hour (slightly better) to Bodies In Motion (much better) in the past 10 years. I didn't mind paying more for Bodies In

Very misleading sales people. They offered me a 5 day trial and after hearing all the bad reviews I decided not to join. I let them know but they charged me anyway for a membership. I called them numerous times and even went in to fix the problem but their general manager, Mike, avoided me and never returned my calls. Now I have to work with my credit card to get my money back. Terrible customer service

I went to that gym and the guy told me I had to sign a contract which is for 12 months and I told him I will be in Los Angeles for only 5 months he just crossed the number 12 and wrote 5 instead. Everything sounds normal so far. But after 5 months I thought they stopped charging me however they did not. After 3 months I received a call from my Bank in Europe regarding to the excess of the payment installments. I went to bodies and motion and they said it does not really matter if he crossed the 12 month lease and put 5 months instead, I will have to pay for the whole year. This is so not ethic. They are just not the right people to do business with. I highly DO NOT reccomend them at all.

On the other hand, staff just ignores you after you sign the contract. They promised me and my friends that they were going to give us free massage, free boxing gloves and a discount voucher for the store and I have not received any of them and when I asked about the promises the answer I get is "WHAATT WE DID NOT PROMISE YOU THAT" :S

This is the worse gym in L.A. For $70 a month one would expect clean and maintained equipment. This place is so filthy sometimes (especially in the showers and steam room area) that I have wondered how the health department is not shutting them down. And worse part of all, they just fired their best yoga instructor whose classes were always packed and had a lot of followers. They accused her of something we, her students, know is impossible! And when they heard our complaints about having let her go, they said they don't care about us! They are a bunch of losers, from top management to the bottom people, and all they do is take your money and deliver zilch. Might as well join Bally's if you don't care about cleanliness or just pay more and join a better club.

Stay away from this place. I am ending my membership after 3 years of sticking with them; but enough is really enough! Spread the word and don't let these voltures get away with their practice!

Pros: Less Expensive than Equinox or Sports Club LA

Cons: Filthy, bad attitude, horrible equipment

This business is evil. I blew out my knee and was unable to walk for weeks. They refused to cancel my membership without forcing me to show up in person despite a medical note from my doctor. I hobble in to cancel and they misrepresented the cancellation as a "freeze" that restarted 8 months later. The fees restarted again and I did not notice until after the second month when the charges hit my credit card bill. They again refuse to cancel me without a 30 day notice period. They will hide behind their contract and lie to you to nickel and dime you. They do not treat their customers in good faith. Drive further if you have to, but it is very difficult to cancel your membership here and they will lie to you to be able to keep charging your card.

Just like many other reviewers stated over and over again.
It scared the hell out of me that Meridian's Bodies in Motion ignored your request of canceling your membership.

When you call, they just pass you on from branch to the corporate office then back to the branch and still they just keep billing you even after you have sent them the register mail stating you are canceling your membership.

I am filing my case with:
1. BBB: http://www.bbb.org/
2. Federal Trade Commission: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/
3. Attorney General office, California: http://ag.ca.gov/index.php
for their wrong doing

Yes it is tough economy out there, but Meridian's Bodies in Motion: just as remorse I am for you have lost revenue while you cut back on the classes that I signed up for. YOU DO NOT DESERVE EVERY PENNY OF MINE!

I would suggest ALL the victims do the same!!!!

Do not under any circumstances join this gym! Bodies in Motion effectively stole over $600 from me-without my knowledge or approval. In Oct. of 2007, I sent a letter of cancellation to Bodies in Motion stating that I intended to move to a new state. I was on a "month to month" plan with no contract. They claimed to have never received it, and when I provided a copy directly from the file cabinet, they insisted that it needed to have been sent "certified." I was never told that the letter needed to be certified.
Mike Fonacier, Operations Manager, was incredibly patronizing via email correspondence, and demonstrated that he has zero integrity and is happy to represent an organization that rips off customers with a conniving smile. I offered to compromise with Bodies in Motion (to accept less than they STOLE from me on a monthly basis without my knowledge or consent) , and they responded with a threat of sending my account to collections.
If you belong to this gym, you should quit immediately. If you are thinking of joining, DO NOT.
This company deserves to go out of business, and hopefully after they rip off enough honest people, they will get what they deserve.
In the mean time, please tell your friends......and everyone else you know. Social media and networking is our only line of defense against this backstabbing, pathetic company. They deserve every negative thing that comes their way.

Was a member for a year. The staff ignores you after you sign up. Machines are nice but there is only one or two of each (except cardio machines). There is a mandatory $50 annual towel fee. Per the contract, Meridian can raise the amount of your monthly dues WITHOUT NOTIFICATION. When I cancelled my membership today, I was informed that the final payment would increase by $5.00--just because they can increase it per the contract. Worst gym experience EVER! Avoid the manager whose initials are MF because he lives up to his initials in every way.

AMAZING facilities. Spa atmosphere in the dressing rooms. a TON of classes that are all fantastic. Best gym I have ever been to. The steam room and sauna are always the right temperature, the hot tub is always hot and is specific to the women's and men's dressing rooms so you can decide the level of clothing you desire. The Yoga classes are amazing . . . spin and kickboxing for the more spirited . . . it just ROCKS.

This gym is a total scam. While the machines and classes are good, the management is a joke and they will attempted to rip you off every chance they get. Make sure that if you cancel your membership you KEEP your copy of the cancellation or they may continue to charge you membership fees. As other members have posted, you will never be able to get the management to call you back and if you try to call with problems they will ALWAYS be mysteriously "unavailable." This gym is not worth the hassle or the lazy and highly juvenile costumer service. Take your business somewhere with a little more integrity.

The company I work for got us a "discount" at Bodies in Motion by getting a "corporate rate," but found out that they were giving Joe Shmoe off the street the exact same great deal. Two months after joining, the gym increased my dues by 3% and my dues were raised another 3% within 2 more months. Basically they raise your dues whenever they want and despite multiple calls from myself, fellow employees, and our Director of HR, they always pawn you off on another manager. I finally marched into the gym after 6 months of trying to get my dues corrected and cancelled my membership. Despite overcharging me for months, the manager there demanded that I pay my final 2 months dues in advance in order to cancel. SO...I cancelled my membership and what do you know??? 2 weeks later I get a collections notice from Bodies in Motion. I have been calling for 3 weeks now trying to solve the collections issue but every time I call they either have a new GM or they are "not available." This gym is truly a great place to work out but they rip you off and have horrible customer service. I have now been promised month after month by their employees and managers that I will at least get a call back but no luck. DO NOT join this gym. It's just as everyone says. They are HORRIBLE!

i joined this gym with high hopes. after three months, i was bored because the class instructors are not that good and there is high turnover.
when trying to terminate my membership the staff members, who act like teenagers who dont know anything with attitude gave me wrong information. There general manager even was not straight forward with me. her voice mail is always full and she doesnt reply to emails. ive had to contact a different meridians bodies in motion to end my membership, so BE CAREFUL.

Pros: jacuzzi in locker room

Cons: no parking, bad staff and management, no customer service, tricks played

Absolutely awful gym. I joined the gym because the number of group classes but definitely not worth it seeing that you have to deal with the horrendous service and organization of the gym. Let's just say I knew it was bad news when it was my first time at the gym and I asked one of the front desk people to help me out with the lockers and they rolled their eyes like they couldn 't be bothered. I waited for 10 minutes because the girl needed to finish up her personal conversation with another staff member. Something about her night out with some guy. The staff is preoccupied with anything other than being helpful or doing actual work. Their manager(s) aren't any better. You always feel like you need to chase people to get anything done there and they are too good to be helpful to anyone. Stay away trust me!!

I've been a member of this gym for a little over 3 years and am quitting as soon as possible. There are a lot of things wrong with this place (parking, staff, lockers) and a few that are alright (machines, low attendance), but my problem is with them charging me an "enhancement fee" that is not in my contract and them refusing to remove it. If you're a member who has been charged this $25 fee, check your contract for item 3(d). If it isn't there, try to get them to remove it. I'm going to dispute it on through my credit card since Bodies in Motion couldn't care less. If you're thinking about joining, look elsewhere. These guys are no good. They like toreview themselves, so take the 5 star reviews with a grain of salt.

The classes here are the best! It's important for me to always be challenged and I love the variety of classes. The personal trainers are really great. I feel like I get the best and the most for my money when I work out with one of their trainers. They are very knowledgeable and and they keep the workout fun.The gym is clean and I never have to wait for a machine. Really great people and fun atmosphere.

You feel like you are working out in a 5-Star Hotel. I mean there is marble everywhere, bamboo floors, and the machines sparkle.

But all of this is nothing compared to the classes... THEY ROCK!!! I am definitely a class junky?I take classes everywhere in the city, and Bodies in Motion?s are definitely the best. Boxing, Yoga, Pilates, Dance?whatever turns you on?they DEFINITELY have THE BEST INSTRUCTORS!!!

Oh, and they are HALF the price of some of the other "high end" (more like snobby) clubs! It?s the best gym by far!

I 've was a member (starting at another branch) from 1998 to 2005. I left because I got fed up. Their staff and management are such scumbags. They treat you well if you're a prospect, but once you've signed on to a long term deal, you're invisible. Complaints? Don't bother..no one cares. Issues..forget it, your voice is silent. Want to cancel? Expect to have your paperwork lost, and get charged again and again and again for months until you threaten legal action. Bodies is a prime example of how NOT to do business. Customer acquisition is what they're fixated on, but not customer retention. That's why they lie to you as simply as they breathe. Employees are disgruntled, underpaid, unqualified, and not motivated. Turnover is very high. There is a long list of employees, vendors, former members suing Bodies. That's just how they do business. Don't get lured by the pretty surroundings. Deep down, the soul of this place is rotten to the core.

FYI, most instructors are not credentialed in what they teach. How 'bout that ballet expert teaching boxing! Wow. No experience in the sport (and it shows), yet instructing people. While no member there is intent on turning pro, at least have an authentic teacher instruct the class. Ladies, would you have your ob.gyn do dental surgery on you, since both are credentialed medical doctors? Hmmmm.....

PROS: Best facilities and locker room
CONS: Far outweighing the good facilities is pretty much everything else.

I signed on with Bodies in Motion in October 2003. As long as I didn't want anything from anyone there, it was fine. As soon as I had complaints, I realized how truly uncaring the staff is, and quite possibly, dishonest. Example One: A treadmill's TV cord shocked me. I informed the front desk staff, who showed no regard for my wellbeing whatsoever. I asked if someone could look at it so no one else got hurt. I never saw anyone come by.. no warnings on the machine. Example Two: I am currently trying to cancel my membership after two years. I went through their required process but they "lost" my forms and are somehow still charging me past my cancellation date. I'm having a horrible time getting through to people and getting a credit to my account. I'd stay away!

PROS: Nice equipment
CONS: Shady, fake staff members; bad parking (valet/crowded); unfriendly members

I signed up for this gym last April and it has been a nightmare. It's a well equiped and nice gym but everything the Sales person told me was an absolute lie! I was referred by a friend and he told me that that would now warrant any kind of discount and insisted on the $300 initial payment because him and 4 other sales people said they don't give discounts on the $300 downpayment under any circumstances. The next week I saw a ad posted on the bathroom there that offered a zero-down membership offer to all friends and family members! I went to talk to the guy that signed me up and I was told that both him and his immediate supervisor had been fired. They also told me that they would extend the hours of the gym, which they never did. Who wants to go to a gym that closes at 6 pm on Saturday and Sundays!?! They spread an email virus with one of their ads to all the memebers had email adresses. Bottom line: nice ritzy gym, but horribly managed and expensive and employs liars who will say anything to sign

Used to belong there. Loved the kick boxing classes, but quit when it got too popular and crowded. It is too expensive for how crowded it got. The teachers were actual boxers too - one guy was in a Chuck Norris movie. Pretty cool. They also had a lot ofequipment and other classes like Yoga, Salsa, etc.

Bodies In Motion is an expensive gym that has all the amenities from a Zen spa, to free towels, not to mention a mighty nice locker room that is always very clean. The club offers every class under the sun from yoga, pilates, karate, funk, and kickboxing classes. The gym is most well-known for its kickboxing instruction and classes, and that explains why there is a large boxing ring smack dab in the middle of the gym. As you work out on one of their many high-quality machines that have TVs hooked upto them, you can chose to watch a buff kick boxing instructor jump rope and throw some serious kicks in the air (ladies- be prepared to drool. I assure you you'll find him more interesting than Oprah or NBC news). Occasionally a DJ shows up and spins records in the boxing ring, but no matter what the music is, they are always playing the Black Eyed Peas or something upbeat and mainstream. I am a little sick of hearing Ashley Simpon's new song about resting her head on some guy's shoulder.

The best classes on the westside from spinning to boxing, sculpting to ballet--everything you need to get your body back into shape. The locker rooms are also very nice and enjoyable to shower in.

My weekends sunning on the beach left my face feeling parched like the desert, but the hydroptimale facial I received at Zen Spa left my skin feeling like an oasis...what a treasure to have found Zen.
