Jazz Bakery

The best appeal of the Jazz Bakery is getting to see some classic and new found talent in the jazz world for an affordable price. The problem is that the room where the concerts are held is short of an afterthought. It is a bare large room with white plastic patio chairs lined up in rows. This is not conducive to the swankiest , most comfortable seating arrangement. How about genuine tables where we as patrons may enjoy our cocktails? How about elevating the seating so no one has a bad seat? Still, the concession outside the hall is pleasant enough with cookies and drinks. Your best bet is to show up during the week to catch some jazz great who is in town and honor them for their genius--I got to see Benny Golson one November eve and was genuinely rewarded.

PROS: relatively inexpensive jazz; good parking
CONS: lousy seating in a children's auditorium fashion; can't bring in drinks to enjoy during the concert

The names comes from its location at the former Helms Bakery building which now houses this demure site for jazz afficionados. Tickets are a bit pricey given the not too glamorous seating arrangements. However, the selection of artists who grace the stage at the Bakery are talented and put on a good show.
