I highly recommend this dealership in general, but Vitality Konovalov is the best sales rep I have ever dealt with. He was very respectful of my time, friendly, and genuinely concerned that I get the best deal possible in the shortest amount of time. This is now my tenth car that I have leased/bought from VW Santa Monica, and it won't be my last!

In the absence of my regular service advisor, Francisco Reyes. who is as pleasant and helpful as Peyman, was very conscientious about helping me when I damaged a tire on my ten year old Beetle. Kudos to Francisco!

Peyman Kahen was Excellent, EXCellent, EXCELLENT as my maintenance/service advisor. The whole maintenance experience with him was smooth, but the communication with him was top, it was prompt, understanding, cooperative, forthcoming, intelligent, and more importantly, a caring communication. I felt he was putting my need ahead of his or his company's. When I think of a place to buy a car, I don't even think twice, I go there, and i sign everything, I get a key and a car ready to go in less than 2 hrs, I know crazy. I got a 2016 Passat, and a Jetta. And now I know that the maintenance service is marvelous as well. very very very very satisfied and happy.

One of the best sales experiences I have ever had. Not once did I feel annoyed or irritated. They answered every questions I had and were very kind throughout. From the start over the phone it was no hassle, when I got there it continued smoothly with no BS. They went above and beyond. I wanted to write them a review without them ever bringing it up because they deserved it. Jett Richard, Raufel Muhammad, and Chandler, thank you.

Odell Hadley greeted me with a smile when I arrived at the service department. He was clear about the process and communicated with me while I went back to work and waited for my car to be ready. He gave me some tips about my car made sure to follow up a couple times after I had my car back. Great service overall. Thanks Odell!

Luke, magaly, & Alejandra were all great.
I told Luke I needed to be in and out, and he handed my car over to the express service and I was out within an hour. Magaly is always extremely personable, & offers assistance with anything she can do to help. Plus, when I was checking out, Alejandra at the cashier was very friendly, and made the overall experience a pleasant one. Thoroughly satisfied with the amazing customer service. :)

I've been taking my Passat for service here since 1999(minus 4 years when I lived outside of LA area). Always had great mechanical service and great customer service from Odell Hadley. I can honestly say I've not necessarily had the same service at other VW dealerships(which will remain nameless).
I want to thank the crew at VWSM for putting my mind at ease and truly caring that my car is in good working condition every time I leave.
Thanks! EB

Last weekend my wife and I walked on the VW lot to simply check out the cars, and we ended up purchasing a Passat. We were considering our options as my current lease was up at the end of the month, and we had visited a couple of other dealerships in Santa Monica with the intention of doing light market research.

At the VW dealership, my wife and I met Anton Schuberthan who instantly became more of a trusted friend than a salesperson. He quickly helped us identify which vehicle was right for us, showed us how it was different from its competitors, clearly explained all of the features, and gave us pricing for leases vs. purchases under multiple different scenarios of our choosing. Anton was friendly, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and respectful of our time. More than that, Anton made the end-to-end process incredibly easy and enjoyable, which is something I have rarely experienced.

If you are in Santa Monica and looking for someone to tell you about VW's or help you make a purchase decision I would highly recommend Anton Schuberthan. The first week with the Passat has been great.

I just moved from Europe and I purchased my first car. You can live without one in most European cities. I got a certified VW CC and I had a great experience dealing with Mr Mark Shapiro. He assisted me for a long afternoon, being friendly, supportive and patient. I can give him a call for any need I might have in the future and I'm sure he will be thee to help. If you are interested in a VW I would highly recommend going to WV Santa Monica and talking to Mark.

criminal, fraudulent, plain old evil scum of the earth.

The service department tried to rob us, but luckily we escaped. Here is our story;

New EOS had traction light / button stuck to off, car started to pull left.
Wife brought car to dealership.
They fixed the traction button / light.
But they continued; they said the car had "severe" damage to steering linkage, that alignment was 4 degrees off, that the one wheel was 2 inches back (camber) from the other.
Service manager Andrew said it would be a 'very expensive repair' and that I should "call my insurance company"
They said they would have to disassemble all steering linkage to find damaged part. OY!
I asked if they saw any impact, rim damage, etc. They saw none.
I had my mechanic call and pose as a relative. Mechanic said "the service manager doesn't know what toe in, camber, or anything else about alignment.
Immediately retrieved car, took to my mechanic.
Guess what? There was no damage to my car. Didn't even need alignment. Have the report. Nothing wrong with car. Never was.
So, it appears that VW of SM wasn't happy with the warranty money they got, they had eyes on the big bucks. No wonder, they work on commission.
I was warned about dealerships, so I was lucky, lost a day's work, cab fares, couple hundred bucks. I feel lucky.
Now it's payback time.
Look for me in front of the dealership, walking with a big nasty sign, warning others of this scum.

Good luck,
Stuart

Rude. High priced. Try to sell you parts you DO NOT need. Thank gosh I know something about cars and avoided spending the extra three hundred dollars.

The sales people also tried to sell me a brand new car when all I was having fixed was my break pads. She acted as if new break pads were awfully expensive. For someone who is supposed to know about cars...she clearly didn't.

Also...they said they would be done by 12pm...then half hour before close said they'd try to fit me in. What??? This was after me constantly checking I'm and being lied to "your car is next."

It's sad, but every negative car stereotype is true about this place.

Bought a new VW last month from VW Santa Monica.

I came in to buy a car with 4 weeks of research, 4-5 quotes, and pages of numbers and data I easily found online. If you're feeling ripped off after buying a car, it's probably your own fault. I knew what a good deal was on my VW, and I knew what a great deal was. In the end, I got the great deal and it worked out for me and the dealership.

Vante was my salesman, and he was great. Straightforward, didn't try to pull anything shady with me. He drove me to the detail shop to check out my car, hook up my bluetooth and hang out with me for a bit after I had paid for it.

Unfortunately, this is a positive review on what could have been an extremely negative experience. I had problems with my car soon after taking delivery of it. Looking back it was a minor issue that appeared serious. VW Santa Monica managers and staff took it very seriously. Even going so far as to offer to unwind the deal or give me a different car. In the end, it was an easy fix and I kept the car. Haven't had an issue with it since. I'm sure it was an embarrassing situation for them, but they fixed it, and the fact that they offered several resolutions made me comfortable with them and the car.

Would recommend them easily.

I had a problem with my Jetta and it took them 3 times to diagnose it! It was something that only happened when the engine was cold, so I had to bring it in the night before- and I'd explain this to them- and they'd say they didn't see them problem- when they had probably warmed the car up before doing the check up! Also- I came to get an oil change and had a coupon for free wiper blades. I forgot the coupon at work- and explained this to the dealer- they said they wouldn't honor it- so I drove to Kinkos to print it out (it came via email)- and after everything they didn't even ask for the coupon!

Buying a car at this dealership was a truly horrible experience.

The staff re-define incompetence, but the real problem is the manager, Ami, who was very quick to come and shake my hand when I bought the car but as soon as the deal was done, not ony did he not take me seriously, but he was detarmined to humiliate me and treat me like a piece of s**t in front of his staff. Trying to have a mature conversation with this person remains an experience that is hard to overcome. It's not that the after-sale service is bad, it's simoly humiliating and cruel. Ami looks at you as if he can't believe you have the audacity to request what you were promised, he doesn't even know what his own policies are, he maintains that VW does not have any lawyers or complaints procedure, he is aggressive and rude, and wheels out phrases such as: "we were under no obligation to tell you that". Does that spell good customer service to anyone? He then walked out on me as he couldn't be bothered to talk to me any more.

This guy is awful. His staff are useless. The experience has been horrible. If anyone wants to make complaints against these people I will happily contribute, nobody has taken me seriously thus far, I guess LA Car Guy fully approves and endorses this kind of attitude towards its customers.

For those who are considering dealing with these people, take it from me, AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

stay away from this place. i tried leasing a new car from this place, but the prices were way too high.

so i bought a certified used VW from Van Nuys and had the unfortunate experience of going to SM for a repair once. the certified used cars come with "bumper-to-bumper" warranties - so you shouldnt have to pay anything for repairs. but these people charged me $200 claiming they had to do some maintenence in addition to the repair (i didn't ask them to do any maintenence).

long story short, stay away from this place....

I am not a member of this rating site, but decided to register just to throw in my 2 cents about this godforsaken place. I purchased an 02' jetta less than a year and a half ago from this place. Of course, the sales staff repeatedly told me that I was getting a great deal on a great car. To date, since owning the car, the transmission had to be replaced and the turbocharger had to be replaced. Both are very expensive. Now, the bearings in the front wheel are bad and the transmission has failed again...the supposedly "new" transmission that they installed. Like the other raters, they were completely unapologetic and dismissive about the whole situation. Clearly, the high raters are just people who work for the dealership. What kind of idiot bases a rating off of the availability of coffee and bagels in the morning. Clearly if you've come to appreciate the VW SM bagels and coffee so much, you are spending way too much time at the dealership, which doesn't speak well for the build quality of these cars. Based on this experience with VW I have decided to get rid of the car and buy a Honda. I will NEVER buy a VW EVER again. I also encourage all those who have been wronged by this dealership to file a complaint with the better business bureau at bbb.org.

I had two cars from this dealership. The recent one was a 2006 beetle convertible. The incident happened this morning. My husband parked my car as usual to have my car fix for a loose window.Waited outside the office for the service advisor and to my disbelief, another customer hit our parked car.I was furious. It's a joke that this can happen in VW own premise.Someone from VW told the lady customer to move her car in a very tight space.I can totally see myself in her shoes.Went to talk to the General Mgr Sean H. to complain how bad is the traffic management there. He was very defensive and I felt very offended the way he handles my complaints.I still remember his words :"Accidents happen everyday".Due to the tight spaces they have there, do not bring you car there. The chances of your car getting hit or you hitting a car are very very high. Be cautious! I still wanted to praise the service that Jeff C. provides. He does make me feel a little better even though this was the very first time my precious Beetle had an accident. How unlucky! GM needs some training on customer service, he appeared very discriminatory.

I leased a jetta at S.M. Volkswagen three years ago. I ended up in a three year hell hole with this car. My transmission was bad, and was in the shop more than not. After 3 attempts to repair transmission, with no success, I contacted V.W. of America, and advised them of the situation. They were considerate on the phone, but that's as far as it went. Finally, in frustration, I called S.M. VW and told them I was protected by the lemon law. They had three tries to fix the wretched thing, and failed. Their response "Do what you have to do, but no one ever prevails with the lemon law". That was the end of that conversation. The next day, V.W. of America called and advised me to return the jetta to the dealer, they were going to replace the transmission.

Great, who was going to replace my sanity?
The jetta affectionately became known as "The Junka" in our family.
The day we turned in the car, my hair started growing back in.....

The next day, V.W. of America called and advised me to return the jetta to the dealer, they were going to replace the transmission.

Great, who was going to replace my sanity?
The jetta affectionately became known as "The Junka" in our family.
The day we turned in the car, my hair started growing back in.....

I must love punishment. Through out the years I have owned 5 VW's. Jettas, New Bettles, and a Touareg have all been cars that I have loved to own and drive. I currently have a Touareg and a Jetta and love the handling and responce of both, but each and every single time that I have ever taken one in, I swear to myself never to buy one again. I always feel that I am being taken advantage of, lied to, and put off "for more important issues". I have seen several different service advisers, none have ever given exceptional service, the best are just above bad. Most of them never return my calls or or keep promised time-lines. The best adviser, left to another company, telling me that there was a reason he left. The single worst issue is the wait, you wait when you bring in the car, you wait to pay for your car, you wait for them to bring your car. There is NO sense of urgency at the cashiers desk, as if they don't care. I have only waited longer at the DMV, SERIOUSLY! The service is no where near reasonably priced. I promise now never to buy another. Hopefully I can keep it this time.

I made an 8:30AM appt to drop-off my car for a safety recall which I was told would be done by 1PM. By 8:40 I was in the lounge waiting for their every-30-minute shuttle which was 45 minutes late; no apologies, no updates. The shuttle driver announces his presence to the lounge with the clarity of someone sucking on peanut butter and cotton. I place 3 calls to my service rep, (12:30, 3:30, 4:30) Julio, who doesn't return my calls. I never sensed malice with this staff just very little common sense and a wholelotta lazy. the death of service. (Oh, I finally got a returned call at 5:15PM...no apology, no explanations)

I turned in my lease at VW Santa Monica and leased a new vehicle. The salesman told me, in no uncertain terms, that they would "take care of" ALL the wear and tear on the car I was turning in. I was wary of this, and I asked specifically what I would be responsible for. The salesman said not to worry about anything, that I would not be charged. Too good to be true? Yep. Four months later I got a bill for $640 from Volkswagen Credit for the wear and tear on my old vehicle. When I called VW Santa Monica, the salesman who sold me my car was no longer working there. The sales manager refused to accept responsibility for the deceitfulness of his former employee. He told me it was not his problem, implied that I was foolish for not getting the salesman's words in writing (obviously, I wish I had.) I don't mind paying for the wear and tear. But this dealership was patently dishonest in order to get me into a deal, and when I called them on it they were rude and utterly unapologetic. They are untrustworthy and irresponsible. What else? I turned in two keys, but only one of them made it with the car to inspection. So I'm being charged for the key VW Santa Monica lost! PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

PROS:
CONS: Deceptive

I came here with one of my friends. We brought her car here on time and there wasn't anyone to assist us. When I brought her back to finally pick it up, she was hit by extra fees and a confusing invoice. The staff was friendly but not to willing to explain the process. The prices seemed reasonable but I dont' think I would bring my car here.

I get the feeling that I may get gouged somehow with a new fix-up every time I bring my car in. Is that good? One time they said that I needed a coolant flush because "the wrong color coolant was added" and it could damage the system. Well...I'd only brought my car into the dealer for every service, so whose fault was that?!?! $100+ down the tubes. Last time a check engine light led to just $4 for a new hose but $160 in labor. Hello?!?! *sigh* A couple of the service writers are nice guys though.

The paradox I find myself in is that I LOVE my Volkswagen but I hate Volkswagen dealerships. What is it with these people? You could bring your poor, broken car into the service driveway and wait 30 minutes before someone notices you ... conversely, you could accidentally place your big toe on the sales floor and suddenly find yourself surrounded by four guys asking if you're interested in a new car.

I have taken my car to Santa Monica VW twice, and both times I was charged exorbitant prices for parts I didn't need and procedures that didn't solve my problem. Furthermore, on both occassions my car wasn't ready until THREE DAYS after they told me it would be. When you only have one car, you know how frustrating it can be--renting a car forthree days isn't cheap!

Unless your car is new and under warranty, I wouldn't even think about going to these guys, or any VW dealership in general. You will likely have much better service (and save a lot more money) by finding a good independent

My son in law brings his car here for yearly check ups and repairs. They are very affordable and very timely in their services. The location is easy to get to and their is "free" parking. Friendly and helpful staff and free estimates and consultations when needed. Will consider buying from them.

Very knowledgable and friendly staff who are very interested in maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. Free coffee and bagels in the morning doesn't hurt. One time they brought my car out with a flat tire but they fixed it. Forget what everyone tells you, change your oil every 3,000 miles.
