I would give 0 stars if I could. We ordered take-out from this place tonight for the first time. The food was tolerable, not good by any means. Then as I'm eating my pad thai I feel like there is a bone in my mouth. When I pulled it

After many years boycotting them we tried them again. I should have stopped by here first.
Their food was even worse than a few years ago! Their service (better:DIS-service) had become worse too.
But REALLY, worst of all was the food!

We started with shrimp (Tom Ka Kung?) soup. 6 shrimp, some diced mushrooms, a bit of lemon grass, chili and loads of salt. The soup was just incredibly salty. Rice accompanying the main dishes was "optional" (i.e., extra). We had two "specials", chicken with cashews and a shrimp dish. The sauces were, again, very salty, thin and bland. This is the worst Thai food I've ever eaten. The restaurant did have an A Health Dept. sticker when we ate there. I've eaten Thai food at a place that had a B Health Dept. sticker and it offered a lot tastier food than Thai Dishes. The service, on the other hand, was fine. Avoid Thai Dishes like the plague!

I used to go to this place all the time. I moved away from the Westside for a year, and now that I'm back, I decided to try my old Thai restaurant for dinner. This place has really gone downhill. The food was awful. The Ribs were cold and bland. The vegetarian tom yum soup was all water- no veggies at all, the crab fried rice had only two small pieces of crab, the green bean beef was rubbery and tasted like it had been left over from earlier(maybe lunch)- wierd smell, rubbery and awful taste. The service was horrible. The girls working there behave like they are doing you a favor for even refilling your glass with water. I found a hair in my plate- when she placed it, and it took her ten minutes to get me a clean one. The iced tea tasted like a two year old put it together. I used to love this place, but unless you're looking for an awful meal, and terrible service, AVOID This place on wilshire blvd. I'm still old school- so I left a 15 percent tip, but one of the nasty lazy waitresses almost chased me down asking why I didn't leave them a bigger tip- apparently she's used to asking people that, a couple of my coworkers left no tip last week, and she almost followed them into the parking lot.
AVOID THIS PLACE- EAT HERE AT YOUR RISK AND TO PAY FOR A CRAP MEAL (AND EXPERIENCE)

Cons: Awful Place

.

I have gone in recently to order pick up and the last two times i have ordered no peanuts being that i am allergic to them. Today i strictly asked for them to put no peanuts on them. They didn't however when i got home and started eating into my tofu pad thai it tasted like i was eating cigarette ash. Not that i've eaten it before but it tasted like someone put a cigarette out in it. That is the only way i can describe the noodles in it that i just ate. I am never eating from this restaurant again.
Also the one time i have eaten in there before i got horrible service which is sad because all of the other thai dishes are great.

I don't know where some of the other reviewers ate, but everytime I've been here the food has been great and the service very good. It's always busy especially in the evenings, and if someone was expecting a really high end restaurant maybe that's why they were disappointed because it's not that kind of place! It's great for reasonable priced meals, nice neighborhood spot that's good for meeting a friend or family outing that doesn't cost an arm and leg.....which should be very important these days! I've had various dishes and liked every one of them!!

There is no excuse not to get an 'A', its not that hard. They got a 'B' from the Health Dept. and at night, they used to take it down to hide it from customers. I no longer eat there. There are better places in Santa Monica.

I only ordered two things, so I can't give an extensive review, but unless i ordered the two worst things on the menu, I can't imagine anything else there is worth going for. The spring rolls were greasy, the filling totally bland, and the dipping sauce cloying sweet. The squid salad looked like it was made with week old lettuce and the vinaigrette was way too sugary and not at all spicy. The squid itsself was tender, but should have been cold in a salad and was warm, wilting everything around it.

The service was TERRIBLE. My waitress didn't come to my table once, was on her cellphone the whole time, and I had to get up three times to ask for more water. I don't think I've ever left a zero tip until today, but there was no way I was paying for her "service" while she yakked on her cell and ignored me.

Try Toi down the street. WAY better food, service and atmosphere. I would never go to Thai Dishes again or recommend it to anyone.

I was disappointed to find that Thai Dishes, which used to be one of the best Thai restaurants in town (5 years ago), has gone way downhill. I recently ordered the coconut milk soup, pork larb salad and beef with broccoli and they were all disappointing. The quality of the meat is terrible. The pork was grisly and the beef was a cheap cut and tough. Also, there was very little beef vs. broccoli, which was also overcooked. I also recently ordered one of their house specials, the shrimp with green beans and red beans in a red curry paste and that was not executed well either. The green beans were overcooked, the shrimp was small and tough and there were only about 4 shrimps in the dish. Management must be suffering financially because they are skimping on quality ingredients and a good chef. What a shame.

Want to feel as sick to your stomach as I do right now? Then head on over to Thai Dishes. Feel like eating low-rate fast food at restaurant prices? Then head on over to Thai Dishes!

Thai Dishes, where every food that could possibly originate from a can, does! Only at Thai Dishes. The carrots? Canned. (And cubed! Thanks for cutting them carrots, giant machine 12,000 miles from here) The peas? Canned. (And extra dry! Thanks, long trip from a dilapidated farmhouse somewhere in the Urals!) The food? Nasty.

Save your money. Eat a Twinkie. You'll feel less disgusting afterwards.

I have been to many Thai restaurants around the world and I accidentally found this one while driving on Wilshire Blvd. I decided to try it and have been going there with my girlfriend for 3 years now. I lived in Europe, Australia, New York, DC and here in LA and I love Thai food and been to Thai restaurants in many cities throughout the world. this one is truly the best one I have been to. And on top of all it is very inexpensive and very clean.
The menu is very extensive and the portions are very big. The only con may be that the service can be a little faster but that is rarely a problem. I highly recommend it.

I had a office lunch for 20 to plan and I had to impress our out of town guests, Thai Dishes sounded great.
Everything was wonderful, the steamed dumplings were killer, the pad thai noodles were awesome and I could live on the pineapple fried rice. One of the best parts was that they delivered. If you haven't been here you need to try it, the prices are very reasonable. I will definately make it one of the office's regular eating places. They also have killer Thai Tea.

Thai Dishes is a small and unassuming place, but an excellent one. My fiancee and I tried it while on a weekend vacation, and it was so yummy and reasonably priced that out of all the restaurants around, we ended up eating there two nights in a row.

Their menu offers a wide selection, and everything we tried was awesome, the sweet-and-sour soup being one of my favorites. The Thai iced tea was also great. As non-Thai people with an average tolerance for spiciness, we ordered our dishes at the "medium" hotness level, which was just right. The portions weren't too small, but they weren't huge either, so splitting three dishes between two people might be a good idea.

Both times we went to Thai Dishes, it was pleasantly quiet and not packed. The service was quick and friendly. There's even a big window that allowed for people-watching. And as far as parking, if you don't mind walking several blocks, you can easily find free space in a nearby residential area.

My only wish was that they would pipe in traditional Thai music instead of Western pop!

I love this place, although I think of it as a good 'can't be bothered to cook' pop in rather than a destination for a planned dinner out. That said, you often see couples on dates or families celebrating an occasion. Dishes are tasty and the menu is big, but best of all both food and alcohol are super inexpensive ... I can get a nice glass of wine with my meal for about four bucks!

Pros: Food. Price.

Cons: Parking might get complicated on a weekday.

The lunch combos during the weekdays are a deal - especially the Pad Thai. You get soup, rice, wonton, and then your choice of a main entree in the combo. The restaurant is pretty cute inside. I've been numerous times for lunch and I don't think we've ever been disappointed with their lunch deals. You can easily make a lunch under 10 bucks including the tip. The service is pretty quick and the staff is really friendly.

I have been going here for years and I love it. It is consistantly high quality food and fast. Try the Pad Ke Mow if you like a spicy noodles. The curry is great, I prefer the red curry. The food is not greasy (like some thai places can be)

The service isn't anything special, sometimes it is good, sometimes it is great. If you decide to eat in, you will find there is always people there and on the weekends it is packed. I have eaten at many thai food places and I find this food is a good value for the quality.

literally accross the street from my office, this place is so convenient that all my coworkers will have to eat there at least once a week. The menu is huge and the specials are affordable. Good for group office lunch and the one hour lunch period will be more than adequate for a confortable lunch. Thai Ice tea is surprisingly better than more expensive places.
I think this place serves its purpose as a decent lunch spot.

I started going to Thai dishes 4 years ago, decided to try a really popular Thai restaurant in Venice. It was okay for a month or so, but then I really stared to miss Thai dishes' food. I don't know what it is, the last two reviewers seemed awfully disappointed, but for me Thai dishes is the best Thai food around. A lot of restaurants have inconsistencies but Thai Dishes is good everytime I go there. I am a creature of habit so maybe that's why I'm never disappointed- it's all about the pad thai, panang, green curry w/ beef, spicy eggplant w/ mint...yummy.

Thai dishes is good for a quick lunch if you have a hankering for Thai. It's pretty cheap and they've got all of your expected Thai dishes. If you're looking for something unexpected, it's not here. Try Pam's Place in Venice instead.

PROS: Quick, cheap

After trying for years many Thai places, and after giving this place two tries it is confirmed, food is extremely salty, chicken curry has everything but chicken, pineapple rice is just horrible, and only pad thai was semi-decent.

Sorry, but this place is really out of the list...

We went to lunch at Thai Dishes on a Sunday and were far from impressed. Though we were the only ones in the restaurant, we felt rushed by the confused waitstaff who were more interested in eating their own lunch than serving us (god knows why, if I worked there, I would avoid eating the food). We began with the steamed dumplings, which were filled with a pale and hard to identify meat-like substance. The satay was decent (that is, after we received it. It took about 20 minutes to arrive because there was no chef to grill it). The shrimp and calamari dish was good but could use some vegetables. The panang curry was flavorful and light, but the quality of the chicken was subpar. The rice was mediocre and standard. As others have mentioned, the prices are good. Unfortunately the food isn't.

I have been to many Thai restaurants throughout California. This is hands down, the best one AND they have the cheapest prices! At my visit here, I ordered red curry chicken and asked them to make it hot. They honored my request gracefully and when I got my food, it was perfect hot - not so hot that it doesn't have any flavor, but a good balance so that it was indeed hot and very flavorful. They also brought this dish out over a flame, which kept the food simmering for about 10 minutes. My friends also ordered garlic chicken and pad thai - both of which were FANTASTIC. I must add that I'm a very picky eater when it comes to Thai food being that I am Thai and was raised on Thai food.

I used to live around the corner from this place, and ate there about three times a week. Needless to say, I've had just about everything on their menu, and have really never been disappointed. The food is super affordable, and the service is solid. The servers are friendly, and the atmosphere is very inviting.

From the outside, it looks like it'd be a somewhat expensive restaurant, but the food is very moderately priced and surprisingly authentic. I highly recommend the duck salad, as well as their wonton soup and kom tah. They also have an excellent crab fried rice.

the menu is similar to most of the thai places you find around la. you have the option to replace the meat with tofu or just have veggies in a lot of the dishes, which is nice. the veggies they use are all very fresh. it's quite noticable and really makes a difference in the taste. the prices are great and free delivery too!
