This place is Hollywood's gem for the best comedy around. They do mainly long-form but also sketch and specialty shows. It's a smal intimate theatre that serves great drinks. Go Tuesday night and catch the Harold Teams Powerhouse and Sweetness at 10pm - only $5 - some of the best performers in the city!
Improv, Sketch, and much more. This relatively young comedy club is one of the most exciting venues for improv in LA. They are chock full o' shows on the mainstage every night as well as a lesser known batch of comedy in the experimental black box theater up the stairs around the side of the club. All this and they have a kicking bar frequented by local comics and actors.
Cheap valet parking, cheap drinks, hilarious acts.
Pros: Always had a good time here
Cons: I was told not to neg.
Much like the myriad of bottle blondes running around Hollywood, there are many venues claiming to perform Improv Comedy. Improv - as in "improvisational" - means "made up on the spot." While the Juggernaut that is the Groundlings claims to be a haven of improv, one only has to visit a show to witness how heavily scripted the "improv" portion of the evening actually is. Improv Olympic, on the other hand, is truly a 'fly by the seat of the pants' affair and 99% of the time produces amazingly hilarious results. Far from the confining theater games of "Who's Line is It Anyway", IO specializes in "Long form" improv, which is truly a feat to witness. Go! Drink! Laugh! Spread the word!
