5 Stars: Great place for a party...or more (by Tee T.)

This is a nice little place across from Fairfax High (it's bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside). You can rent it out for a party, or go to their special screenings.

It's gorgeous inside, and they have a VIP room upstairs. When you watch a movie, it feels very homey, but not stuffy. The acoustics are great, so movie watching is a joy all around.

4 Stars: Silent Movie (by laure m.)

This is such a neat place to go. The theater is located on Fairfax, and is available for private parties. They have a patio in back for catered events. They have public showings, call for information. They also have a live accompanist to play the soundtrack along with the movie.

5 Stars: Tired of Dolby? (by Marcus H.)

Los Angeles is definitely a city that takes film and its history very seriously, which probably explains the existence of the Silent Movie Theatre. This place does exactly what its name implies--shows silent movies (including Chaplin movies and other famous films) for modern-day audiences. Admission prices are quite reasonable, and the films themselves are often surprisingly engaging.

4 Stars: Best Place to view Old Movies (by Christy G.)

As you can guess by the name, this theatre shows silent movies...Buster Keaton to Charlie Chaplin. But my favorite trip every year is to see a talkie - It's A Wonderful Life. They always have someone playing the organ before the show and are always friendly. It's not state-of-the-art, but you don't need THX to see a silent movie.

PROS:
CONS: parking

5 Stars: The Good Old Days Are Here Again! (by P V.)

This theatre has an amazing history. Just ask one of the employees and they'll tell you all about how the original owners got a loan from the bank by saying they were building a 'talkies' theatre--but secretly built a silent one! If you want to have an out of the ordinary film going experience this is the place. As the name suggests, this theatre shows silent films-- many times with (excellent) live accompaniment. There are special events such as concert and film nights. For instance I saw Janet Klein the charming ukelele chanteuse play here along with her parlor boys and then watched the classic film 'The It Girl.' On nights such as this there is even often a contest to see who can name all the silent stars whose photos line the wall. The audience is part of the thrill as well. Here oldsters mix with trendies and fashionistas. I've even seen a TV star or two! It's a fun place and I hear that they also host private functions. This could be a great place for a grown-up birthday party!

PROS: An experience you won't find anywhere else
CONS: Seats have been improved, but still aren't uber-comfy.

4 Stars: fun place to go with a group (by SUE G.)

i have been going to this theater for over 20 years. it's a really fun place to go with a group. there is usually lots of parking on fairfax right in front of the theater. the price of admission is very reasonable, too.

5 Stars: Retro and Hip (by Peter M.)

This is the quirkiest place I've been in a long time because of the history and the fact we are watching movies without sound. It's just utterly fascinating. It's something to go to that is a bit out of the norm.

5 Stars: (by Julian G.)

A world class attraction in the middle of Los Angeles this is what you would call a true gem. The appeal of this place beyond the fact it is a silent movie theater lie in its incredible history too.
