This is a DISREPUTABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL, & UNRELIABLE operation! They guaranteed 2-day delivery, but then failed to ship the order at all! They do NOT respond to email, and do NOT answer their phones. After finally getting through to a woman, she was argumentative & rude, and then hung up the phone.

After reading other reviews and complaints filed, this seems to be their normal practice and not the exception!

BEWARE!!!!!!

I traveled 1200 miles to attend the Internatinal Phalaenopsis Alliance Sympsoium at Ontario , Califonrai this July . Norman's Orchid is one of the sponsor for the Symposium and I was able to visit the nursery after the meeting. I am glad I do not live around the nursery as I will be spending all my retirement money there. They probably have the best Phalaneopsis collection in the country currently. The place is spotless with over 20 greenhouses with perfectly grown plants. Each plant is correctly labeled with parentage of the breeding which make it easy when one have to sumit for ribbon judging at local society. Staffs are very knowledge in orchid as Norman is also a very well know American Orchid Society Judge. They even ship my purchase of orchids from other vendors at the symposium. This is a first class operation.

The orchid is good in general, but extremely pricey! I bought the very same cattleya orchid two years ago and it raises its price double - two years lately... ;-( I really like that orchid and I have to pay double the price for it now - $84 for a cattleya! Believe it! I am looking for other options... Btw, I wrote them an email and they never reply.

I went over to Norman's Orchid today and although they were extremely busy with mother's day orders, they find time to help me and my mother to select the right orchid for us. Good customer service.

This is a sleezy operation. They guaranteed 2-day delivery but decided to make it a 5-day delivery. They also decided to leave expensive flowers ($150) unattended at the doorstep without signature which I did not approve.

Furthermore, they are rude and unprofessional. They will hang up on you because they don't understand customer service.

It doesn't matter that they have a professional website, they are awful!

I have been reading several complaints about orchid purchases and specifically from orchids.com. I have not purchased there but I will say - and this is completely unbiased for any reason other than reality - orchids are living plants - all that are commercially grown and sold here are typically crosses and are imports grown from seeds in lab flasks. That goes for Phals, Intergens, Paphs, Phrags etc. They are "processed" (you call it what you want) to go to market as quick as possible - it's expensive to grow orchids and takes years to produce a healthy blooming plant that will re-blume - That being said people who think they are smart because they buy $15 - $25 dollar orchids from Trader Joe's or some grocery outlet don't realize that the plants they are buying are immature seedlings that most likely will never bloom again and are weak bloomers to start with. Imagine the facility it would take to produce the entire world of big box stores with orchid plants - they don't all come from the same place but do come from like places. Some of these places are in Calif. Bud drop could be attributed to climate change, moving or shipping the plant during bloom or temperature change during bloom. Blooming orchid plants DO NOT SHIP WELL. If you want to send a plant to someone accross the country - locate a florist local to the area you are sending who can deliver the plant. Bud drop and bloom wilt is typically not an indication of a sick or dying plant the foliage is much more telling. Let's take the term dying. When an orchid drops it's blooms it is not DYING! Many people I talk with about orchids say, "I kill them". When your rose bushes loose their blooms do you go out and dig them up and throw them out? I belive some people are under the assumption that orchids are ever blooming and bullet proof - they are not nor are they as fragile and fussy as others label them. Short of running over them with a car and then hacking them into little pieces it is hard to "kill" an orchid - especially Phals. Use common sense when purchasing anything especially a plant - the person who sold it to you may be stretching the truth at times about how long the blooms on a plant will last but it isn't because he or she is lying it is a matter of fact. Phals CAN stay in bloom 6 months or longer - depending on what has happened to the plant before during and after it's bloom cycle, the age of the plant etc- if you get 8 - 10 weeks be happy it is still cheaper than buying a bunch of traditional cut flowers and lasts much longer. Intergens may last 3 - 5 wks some longer. I have had Paphs last 4 months and also 3 wks. Also understand that we as people don't like to feel like we have been taken advantage of. To that I say that you not only get what you pay for (so stop trying to get a good deal on a plant) but adjust your perception of what blooming orchid plants are. They are expensive to grow. The older the plant the more expensive they should be because they cost more to bring a plant to maturity. Most people buy orchids because of the bloom and that plant has no value beyond the bloom. This is ridiculous - those of you who buy orchids as gifts - good for you - you may consider sending a care manual with it and if the recipient of such a thoughtful gift actually reads and follows a few simple guidelines they could experience much success and happiness and also add to their collection. I recommend to anyone who likes orchids but is unsure about how to care for them to find their local chapter of the orchid society - these folks can be a big help as well as being nice interesting groups that share a wealth or knowledge as well as a common interest in orchids. Above all educate yourself about orchids or anything else for that matter. Once you have a realistic set of expectations regarding purchasing, re-blooming and caring for your orchids you will be hard pressed to be dissapointed.

thanks

They have a beautiful selection of Orchids. I was having trouble with my orchids and went there for advice several. After investing in advised items I didn't have any luck. Sadly all of my orchids had died. They seem to be too busy to help you also, unless of course if you have orchids you are buying. I had bought most of my orchids at Normans. But wont be back.

Great selection of Orchids. Grown strong and big. Good prices. Helpful staff. Easy to get to location and if you dont feel like tracking all the way out there ordering from their website is really easy and it doesnt take but a few days to get to you.
