Reviews for Colombo's Italian Steak House

Ratings_icons Pizza at a steakhouse?

Tom B.

I love a good steak but I'm not willing to spend the money steak house's charge...I'm cheap, so what? I love Colombo's because of it's total awesomeness. The bartenders pour heavy and you can get a relatively inexpensive pizza with you drink, eat it at the bar, meet some cool people and listen to live music. EVERY NIGHT! Less than $30 bucks for a couple drinks and pizza that feeds two ain't too bad if you ask me.

Ratings_icons Food is Great - a Bit Crowded

Joan K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,785

I've been to Columbo's several times - the food is consistently good -- but it is very loud inside, especially on the weekends - I find it a bit crowded -- I recommend going on a weeknight. Yummy desserts - save room!

This was a great find for us. Being from New York we were having a hard time finding an authentic Italian eatery in California. (many generics, many trendy wannabes). Though far from fancy, the atmosphere is retro cozy and homey. Though I can't vouch for the steak dishes (as I don't eat so much steak) several of the Italian choices are choice. Definitely try the Bolognese (my favorite), the Chicken Parm (crispy not soggy and not overly laden with sauce), the Linguine and white clam sauce (brothy and light). My other favorite here is the Green Goddess dressing for the salad-a seldom found classic-it's refreshingly herbal and a great departure from the usual. As for service, ask for Jesse! She's efficient, friendly and so personable. I guess you couldn't categorize this neighborhood spot as "world class" but it is certainy a very good place with a casual welcoming atmosphere and live music too!

Sorry but this place is terrible!
The steak was chewy and raw-had to send it back twice-
The service was bad-The lady was too busy yacking to everyone.
The guy playing piano was awfull-but thought he was great-

Never will return-
Maybe a drink at the bar-Nothing-even the drinks suck

Ratings_icons Colombo's Italian Restaurant & Steak House, Eagle Rock, California

Colombo's, or stay home...Colombo's or stay home...
I'll stay home next time. It is dark, dirty, and musty. Reminds me of the old casino restaurants, just before they got bulldozed.
The service is unquestionably horrible. The food is supposed to be Italian, but it is really Italian with some other twist. Non traditional Italian food that is poor in quality, and served warm along with your cold appetizer.
No management to oversee staff. The staff can barely walk, and they smell like alcohol.

Ratings_icons Delicious!

I love Colombo's and I don't think it's only for older people. My favorite dish is the Stuffed Eggplant. The atmosphere is really retro and fun with live entertainment. I would not recommend bringing children to this restaurant and be careful with themixed drinks, they are a little too strong. I usually drink wine and they have a nice selection. This is one of my favorite restaurants!

Ratings_icons It's ok but not for young people

rafi d. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,840

I have been at this place after I purchased one of restaurant.com coupons. It is a good restaurant but I wouldn't recommend young people to go there because most of its customers are 55 and up. the food was not bad but it was not what I was expecting !

Ratings_icons The steak here ROCKS!

Mike M. | insider Insider | Rank: 33,618

I have enjoyed Colombos 4 times since moving here about a year ago. The food was very good. I personally recommend that Steak. On weekend nights reservations are not required. There are bands and musicians nightly.

PROS: The food, atmosphere & music.
CONS: A little pricey, but only mildly so.

This place is retro cool. I have one problem. When there is a game on, the bar tender will only tune one of the the two TVs into the game. The other TV will have Lifetime or Matlock paying. No joke this happened to me twice during the division series between NY & the SOX.

Good food. Stick to steak and basic pasta. Avoid salads. There is usually a performer. Most are great.

Good food at reasonable prices. Very unique dcor (1950's mobster-look), there are literally no windows. The bar area is fun to watch games at - the bar tenders are great. Live entertainment most nights. A must see in Eagle Rock.

With little to no windows this place looks like it could be an old time mafia hangout from the street. From the inside it is like going back to the 1950's. But the food is good and consistent. The atmosphere friendly. Nothing glamourous, this is a fun quirky neighborhood restaurant if you like that kind of thing. Reservations are adviseable for Fri & Sat. The pizza here is very very good!
