Buyer Beware - Large Erroneous Charges at the Register
by Melanie H.
I went to the milk pail for the first time yesterday. I was underwhelmed because three bags of groceries cost $156.00. After I left the store (I was in a rush, preparing for a dinner party), I examined my bill closely and discovered I was mischarged for one "frozen item" at $89.00. This was an enormous error.
When I called to alert the manager, he said it was my fault because I should have known how much the groceries should cost. Since it was my first time there, I did not have a ball park in mind.
Nonetheless, shoppers should be wary of the miscalculations at the cash register, and the poor customer service.

Milk Pail - European-style open air market

The Milk Pail is the next best thing to a farmer's market. They generally have very fresh fruits and vegetables at attractive prices. They also have the items you may not find at the large grocery stores - many fresh herbs, items like celery root, fennel/anise, plantains, etc. Whatever produce type of ingredient you need, it's probably there. The problem can be finding things. The market is cramped, crowded, and you sometimes have to look not only at what's clearly displayed, but also at items that are in boxes beneath the display. If all else fails, ask.

The Milk Pail offers a great selection of high quality fruits and vegetables. In addition, they also have oils, breads, etc. The store is very small and tends to be hard to maneuver but is definitely worth the inconvenience for the selection.

I love the selection of produce and cheeses at this market, and the prices are usually really good too. It can be a little difficult to navigate when it's crowded, but otherwise I love shopping here.

I was a little aprehensive about coming to the Milk Pall Market at first but they have some of the most hard to find and eclectic food staples i've come across. A great little market but of course what comes with that is a horrible parking situation on weekends and crowds. Checking out can be a pain, it's like a bottle neck on the 405. Everyone just seems to converge into one mass at a few registers. Go durning the week for a better experience.

I really like this place because it is always on the way. Its right in the middle of the San Antonio shopping center. You always find yourself a lot there whether you are going to Target, Ross, walmart, the Russian store, Amadillos or Chef Chus and you can always find the extra ten minutes to stop by. The only problem with it is that it is very crowded and its always like that, basically whenever I go. I have never really seen it free of people. I think that is mostly because their prices are lower than huge grocerie stores. I always buy the cauliflower which is like a dollar. They sell breads and little sweet stuff that you can pick up right at the register. Also, behind the cashiers there is ice cream:)

small fruit and vegetable and milk store. Also has some specialty ethnic products and decent prices. The store is conveniently located,. The store is pretty small, so it's kind of crammed. It offers good prices (like strawberries) so there are a lot of people. Definetly a better place to go for produce than large grocery stores, because of the prices.

This store has fresh and delicious (and not too mention cheap!) fruits and vegetables as well as many other European products. The store itself is very crowded and small.

The Milk Pail carries a great selection of very fresh produce, cheese and they get fresh deliveries of bread daily. The prices as displayed are often better than the big grocery stores, but you have to keep track of what you are buying charges. The cashiers are always in a hurry and have to to know the prices and I get the wrong price charged regular.
It can get very crowded and the aisles are packed tight. Sometimes you don't get trough with your shopping cart.

the best place for fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses

i love the milk pail!
it is no frills, but there is something to love about that too. they have everything you need to keep your kitchen stocked with fresh fruits, vegetables, gourmet items like home made icecreams and breads at amazingly low, often below supermarket prices.
i make a weekly trip to the milk pail. they have a full selection of cheeses from around the world, breads, fresh herbs, salad ingredients, veggies, everyday and exotic fruits.
going to the milk pail is a nice routine. the people are all friendly, it's like going to a local farmer's market.

Provides European "Open-Market" for produce, dairy, breads, cheeses, etc. Convenient open-air atmosphere. Wide selection of international cheeses.
Negatives: limited parking, crowded, long lines and poor design for check-out stands.
