San Francisco Zoo

My husband and I go to this place usually on weekends and its the perfect spot for walking. Not only you get to see extensive array of animal display but I get to exercise for my health. Also, they have free admission on Wednesday- Cool!

okay, okay, so its not as great as the san diego zoo, but it is a sure of a lot closer! and who can beat free first wednesdays of the month? its also a great place to get your community service hours.

Every kid wants the memory of going to the zoo for the first time with their family and seeing all the animals. SF zoo is almost always cold, overpriced, and the animals usually hide in the back of their cages, not looking very pleased to see you. I know I can't blame the zoo for the animal's sitting location preferences, but it would make the whole experience a lot more exciting if there were more shows or interactive opportunities.

the zoo has gotten 100% better. the zoo used to be really messy and not clean for the kids sake but since they have re-landscaped the zoo its much cleaner and the animals are maintained a lot better

I have been going to this zoo since I was a child myself. Now I have taken both of my daughters there since early childhood (They are now 14 and 10). No matter how many times we've been here, we always have a good time.

we like going to the zoo but it is not like it use to be. lots of the animals are not there and is not a clean place as like other zoos i been to. lots of parking but you need to walk far to the gates

Who doesn't love going to the zoo? I love checking out all the animals and spending a relaxing day walking around the zoo. Monkeys, bears, giraffes, lions, they have it all!

san franisco zoo is so fun i remember i went their when i was i preschools. there was monkeys , zebars , hippos , and many more. it's a nice place for little kids and olders.

I enjoy this zoo much more now that they have remodeled. It is very inviting and much nicer for the animals. They are a bit expensive to get into but if you buy a yearly pass it pays for itself in no time.

The S.F. Zoo has had great changes and what kid doesn't love to come here and see all the great animals. The also offer great summer classes for kids and great group discounts for field trips.

The SF Zoo is the best in the bay area. Over the last couple of years they have undergone a hugh face lift, leaving the park a modern, beautiful zoo with fun things to do, see and buy. They have train rides, pandas, and one of the best play grounds in the city. We use are membership just to hit the playground on the weekend.

Since they've done all the work to the zoo it is so nice. The parking is so much better. Everything is really nice and pretty clean for being the zoo.

This is a great place to go with kids and see all the animals. It's at a great location because it's right next to the beach so on a nice day, you can take a stroll through the zoo and then go lay out on the beach!

PROS: Free on the first Wednesday of every month.

I have always enjoyed visiting the San Francisco Zoo as a child and as a parent now taking my children. They have made many improvements over the years for the good, and the animals are well cared for. Take your family and have some animal fun.

I grew up just 2 blocks from the zoo and visited quite often because when I was young, they use to have rides for kids. Now that I have kids of my own, I also took them here as kids. There has been alot of good changes throught the many years that I have visited the zoo. The animals are now housed (notice i didnt say caged) in an invironment that is just like their original habita. They also have a volunteer program during the summer for kids who are interested in the animal world proffession. I love this place. I have such great memories here.

I have been going to the zoo since I was a little girl and they have made so many improvements over the years. (They are still updating) We really enjoy the children's zoo and the you cant go with out a train ride. WE never get to see everything in one day- I think that is so my daughter has a reason to go back.

The San Francisco Zoo is a GREAT place to spend a few fun hours. There are many animals to see. They have the children zoo which the little ones can feed the ducks, sheep, and goats. There is the century old merry-go-around and the little puffer train. There is a gift shop that has great zoo related merchandise. They have done alot of remodeling and are still working at making things better. Great Job. You can get a annual family membership which gives you free admission and admission to special events - plus 10% off food and the gift shop. Great Deal

it is free every 1st weds. of the month. There is a huge playground for the kids to play at. Kids are able to watch the zoo keepers fees the lions. You can also visit the petting zoo.

Monkeys, Elephants and Giraffes are all my kids want to see there. But, when we get there they want to see it all. They love the shows and the petting zoo as well as those Tigers

Fun day and if you stay late the little ones fall asleep on the way home :)

I love going to the SF zoo. It only an hour drive from San Jose and it is never overcrowded. I highly recommend going to the see the lion feeding. Check the schedule and arrive about 10 minutes early. I was surprised that we were so close. One of them roared at the crowd and people in the front row nearly jumped out of the skin. A word of caution- They feed the lions rabbits, so if your children would be upset at this sight, don't go see it.

The San Francisco Zoo has upgraded much of the animal areas and made it nice to visit. Our favorite is the Lion Building. Most people like to go and see them when they are being fed.

We were not much impressed by the zoo. Well, my son liked the train ride though.IT is a big zoo with very few animals. THe entrance fee is also more..

Though our child was not very impressed, my husband and I loved the zoo. The setting is great and the animals seem to be at peace with their surroundings. Food was not bad either.

I really like this zoo, its up near the water in north San Francisco, its really an old zoo, built around 1920's I think. Even though some of the exhibits are new and remodeled, there are lots of original architecture which makes it interesting. especially the old monkey house and cat house, they are the old concrete cell type cages. Pretty big zoo, and lots of trees so cant see the whole thing which adds to the feeling. I think it was about $10 to get in. Not a lot of parking though

Large size zoo with lots of attractions. Still some what outdated with traditional concrete cages and metal bars. Lots of construction and remodeling going on to improve the quality of habitats for the animals. Great location with wonderful views.

This is a beautiful zoo. It is huge, clean and very well maintained. We had an amazing day outing there and ended up buying the family membership for about $70. Kids absolutely loved the petting zoo where they could touch the animals.

I used to go to the San Francisco zoo as a kid on school field trips. There are a lot of animals to see there and I had a great time. We would ride on our school bus which they parked right in front of the entrance on Sloat. I still like to go back once in a while and it hasnt changed too much. They have a nice shop right by the entrance too where you can get some really nice souvenirs.

This zoo is great learning experience for kids and adults. There's a lot to see! I like looking at the gorillas and koalas. There is smaller zoo and farm inside, where kids can actually pet and feed sheep, horses, and other animals. There are two information centers for all visitors to learn more about the zoo's animals. San Franciscans can get a discount anytime while everyone gets in free on the first Wednesday of each month. Being the thifty person, I visited on the free day.

This is a really nice zoo. I always try to visit the zoo at least 2x a year what is great about it is that fact that generations have came to visit it. the best feature is the special keys that still work. it clean and it's very big. this is one of the better urban Zoo's in the country. They also have "special" valentine day tours that are really eye openers it's a unique date experience that tour is really something that needs to be experienced first hand a real special treat.

If you walk fast, you can visit the entire zoo in about 1.5 hours, but why would you go to a zoo if you didn't want to stop and look at the animals? I had a lot of fun here the last time I went, although some renovation was being done I think on the hippo enclosure so I didn't get to see many of them. Check the weather reports before you go, as it's San Francisco and sometimes it rains. Rained during my visit, but I still managed to have a great time.

This is a great place for the family to interact and see different kinds of animals. It's free on the first Wednesday of every month but it can be very crowded. Very easy to navigate and seeing all of these fascinating animals. There is also a petting zoo where you and your little kids can interact with the animals. A very big park that can take a couple hours to see eveything.

The San Francisco Zoo has always been interesting to visit, but you can tell that they're getting a little dated. The facility is actually well maintained, especially considering how often they need to clean the animal droppings, but a number of animals are being shown less (possibly due to the harsh weather) and the variety is not as exciting as they use to be. I would recommend going at night when the animals are more lively.

I take my kids to the San Francisco as often as I can since it is kind of a drive for us to get there. I like that they have a parking lot where you just pay $5 for the whole day and you are right at their front door. My kids really like this zoo they have a big children's zoo and a big playground too.

I never get tired of visiting the San Francisco Zoo. There are always fun exhibits to see. I love going to see the tigers. And feeding time is great. Its a always a treat to be able to see the animals eating. SF Zoo is on 46 and Sloat, so if you are not familiar with the city, it is usually a bit cold here. And parking is a little hard but muni is readily available. Its a great place to take the entire family.

what a fun place to take your family and spend a day, also a great date spot. they have all kinds of animals and many different exhibits. theres also free admission if you go on the first wedensday of every month, which is when i went. even if its not free, you definately have a great time. at the time i was there, they had a white alligator exhibit that what really interesting, and i saw something i had never seen before. they always have special, really cool, exhibits, just go to their website and check out whats there. also, their website is really good, it provides all kinds of information. but it is in the city so make sure to bring a jacket it can getkind of chilly.

What else can you say about a zoo... it's great. Seeing all those young faces running around laughing at the monkey and other animals. I've been here so many times I can't remember. I always enjoy going when the feed the lions. Can't say anything bad about it but only thing is that it gets a little crowded sometimes. Pickin up some hotdogs and a Icee at the zoo is a great thing.

The San Francisco zoo is one of the hidden treasures of teh city. Everone seems to take this zoo for granted. I love it here! Its quite a large zoo so there is alot of walking. But is a wonderful place for childre to learn and explore. I like the petting zoo the best because there is interaction between you and the pets. This would definitely be a wonderful family outing. It does get a little chilly in this area because it is so close to the water. But its awonderful place to visit..many many times.

The zoo is much better since the refurbishments. The layout is slightly better. However there are still alot of animals that are being rehoused continously, it would be nice to see some of these elusive animals. The ammenities for children are great, witht eh petting zoo, train and playground. The prices are still high but can be worthwhile if you obtain a season pass.

Parking is much easier now. The fog still sometimes puts a dampner on the experience.

This zoo is huge, it always takes me at least a whole day to visit. I always take my little cousins and they love the kids section, especially the petting zoo. It is always busy and crowded no metter what day you go, which makes it a fun experience. the food courts at the zoo are a little pricy for the amount of food that you are getting. But what food is really good at a public place like this. Also, it can get chilly on 46th Ave beacuse you are near the water. So if you visit the zoo, make sure you dress warmly. But is an excellent day trip. The admission price is reasonable. I am not sure if they have it free once a month. But you can probably check it out online.

I love to visit the SF zoo. They have a lot to offer. It can be a whole day adveture becuse the space is so big and there are so many different things to see. the best part of the experience is when you get to watch all of teh animals being fed. I also like the pengiun colony because I can never find that at any oher zoo. My little nieces also liked teh children area with the petting zoo. The zoo is a wonderfulplace to visit, but I advise to take Muni or public transportation beacuse parking is so hard. Also, you have to be careful of the weather here. It can get pretty cold, so don't forget a jacket!

The SF Zoo is a great place to take a peek at animals that you would only get to see on tv. It's a great place to bring young children to and watch their expressions as they get to view such a diverse type of animals.

With admission being free every first Wed. of the month, the SF Zoo attracts a very large crowd. If you decide to go for the free admission, here's some advice: go early. If you can't find parking, park among the residential area. It's also hard to get to some exhibits on free admission days (with such huge crowds), so that might be placed under consideration before attempting such an excursion.

The San Francisco Zoo is a relatively big zoo. They have a large collection of animals to see there although I have been there a few times where they did not have the animals in their exhibits. One time my daughter was disappointed that the elephants were not to be seen. They do have a pretty large children's zoo with a nice collection of farm animals for the kids to pet. They landscaping is very nice with large trees and lush vegetation.

San Francisco Zoo is humongous. I use to bring my little cousins here and we love feeding the animals. It is a great place to enlarge a kids imagination. Each animal is amazing and cute. We used to spend hours just looking at each animal. The downside is that the smell is horrible. The parking is even worse. There is a lot of walking involve so your leg my get numb by the end of the day. However, it is a wonderful experience just coming out here.

I've always liked going to San Francisco Zoo because it's big, expansive, and carries all kinds of exotic and interesting animals in enclosures that are visually interesting. I think the best exhibits are Penguin Island, where the live feeding of the penguins occur during the afternoon, and Gorilla Island, where you can stare at gorillas at close range (with the safety of being behind a glass window of course).

This Zoo is so big, you're not going to be able to see it all in a couple of hours. They have a huge variety of animals. There are playgrounds for the kids, and a train ride. The children's zoo is nice, and the workers there don't just clean up poop. They also talk to the kids and are great at answering questions. Their little wildlife show is short, but fun. The gorillias are my favorite exibit, and I could spend all day there. They also have penguins, which I haven't seen anywhere else. The cat and bear exibits seem a bit outdated, but they are always making improvments and building new exibits. The new lemur habitat is amazing.

a very good zoo, not world class, but good nonetheless. The penguins are fun to watch and the zoo certainly has big cats, in fact you can view them during feeding time, but come to the big cat house early, as a lot of people go even though it smells really bad. I used to love the San Francisco Zoo when I was younger, but when we recently took my brother for the first time, I realized it was really depressing. What really made me mad was the elephant. There was one big gray elephant that made me sad the most. It was the African elephant, and he just looked so trapped in that little section they had for him. The rhinocerous also made me angry. I used to pity people who hated zoos because the animals are "trapped", but now, I know what they mean. It's horrible.

Last time I came here (just a couple weeks ago) I was really disappointed. Many of the exhibits were closed. For example I really didn't get to see any monkeys or lions. But usually this zoo is actually quiete cool. Its big and you can spend the whole day walking around. They even have an insect zoo! There is also a childrens zoo and inside is a petting zoo. They havea fun little train that you can ride on and wave to all the people from for $3.00 per person. The food inside the park is really expensive, and not that good so come after you eat. Parking on weekends is hard inside the zoo lot, don't even try. Park away and then take the 10 minute walk, not too bad.

The San Francisco Zoo is always a fun place to go with family and friends. There are so many animals a person wouldn't be able to see anywhere else, and that's what makes it exciting. There's so many things to see and do at the zoo and its a fun learning experience.

I love going to this zoo. It's really nicely organized and clean. I love bringing my neice here. We usually spend most of the day checking out all the animals. It's in a nice location--in the outer richmond, so it's not hard to get too. The harderst part is finding parking sometimes! I actually just visited this zoo this weekend. I have visited it many times before but this time it actually disappointed me. Many of the exhibits were closed for remodeling which didn't allow me to see many of the animals. But i bet later the zoo will be better then ever because of thse new renovations. Many beautiful animals like lions, polar bears, tigers, penguins, meerkats, donkey and pelicans. It also has a wonderful "insect zoo." I got to pet the goats and sheep (so soft!) and other animals. Tons of animal statues. Food ws bad and really expensive! 5 dollars for a bad cheeseburger! $3.25 for a churro.

Although not as well-known as other zoos, I definitely like this zoo the best. I have a youngster, and he loves coming here whenever weather, and our schedule permits. Highlights include the tiger feeding (you're so up close!), the children's zoo, and the new African Safari area. The bugs exhibit is pretty cool for young kids, too. It's much more managable than other zoos, and if you go during the week while school is in session it can be a quiet experience.

The San Francisco zoo is excellent. It makes a great day trip adventure.. Accessible via mass transit, they'll give you a discount on your tickets if you show a muni stub. While you're there, don't miss out on "Big Cat Feeding" every day but Monday at 2pm. "See the lions and tigers devour their afternoon meal in the Lion House." It's very cool.
