They told both my wife and son that they had cavities and they needed to drill.. I smelled a rat. We took them to my old trustworth childhood dentist out of town. They did not have cavities

They are Extremely high pressure to get you to do extra cleanings at a high charge.

It's a gorgeous office, but beware!

The staff is awful. Dental assistant (not Dr.) makes snap incorrect diagnosis. She inverts dental pic and insists the work I had done was on the wrong side. Billing are liars especially Ann. They want cash even though I was covered by a decent PPO. She said they would bill and credit me the difference but never did. Would not return repeated calls. I submitted an ins claim and got paid

This place runs the biggest SCAM I've ever seen! They have been over charging us for years! Just found out today that the quote they gave my husband for a tooth extraction and bridge was nearly three times what it should have been. After getting the $3200 estimate I called them to get billing codes for the work and asked point blank if those were the prices listed by our insurance. Well, she said they were and then gave me the codes very abruptly. When I called my insurance to question it, I found out that the total should have been at the most: $1385. I promptly called the dental office back and of course the treatment coordinator was too busy to talk to me.

RUN...DO NOT WALK IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!!! This office is the biggest SCAM I have witnessed in my life. I am into them for 16K. They did such a substandard job that i went back with issues and they will not fix without charging me again for the same substandard work. This office does not belong to any Dental Association so you can not file a complaint. However, you can contact the Dental Board of California (916)263-2300 or www.dbc.ca.gov and if they get severe enough abuse reported the doctor can actually lose his license. I strongly suggest that if you have been scammed by this office that you submit a consumer complaint form. I am also persuing civil action against them as well....WE HAVE AVENUES AND RIGHTS AND WE SHOULD NOT LET THIS OFFICE GET AWAY WITH THE SUBSTANDARD UNECESSARY WORK THAT THEY ARE DOING!!!!!
PLEASE STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS AND DO NOT LET THEM DO THE SAME TO OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE!!!!

Stay away from these lieing basturds. The Finance person, Hanoi Anna, will lie through her teeth about telling you only one option to fix your teeth, the most expensive procedures not covered by insurance. She will lie about submiting the bill to your insurance and say " our discount is better then your insurance" I have filed a fraud and negligence complaint with Blue Cross then its on to civil court to sue these slim balls!

Stay away from this dental office!! The people that work there are very nice, but don't let that fooling you into thinking they are not only out for your money. On my first appointment I was told I needed over $8000 worth of work. After being charged $20 for a black and white printed copy of my x-rays I went to two other dentists for second opinions and ended up getting all my work done for $345. I was persuaded into getting a cleaning and $190 later I took the invoice to my insurance company and was explained how so many of the items I was charged for were competely ridiculous. One stated "post treatment care" and charged me $45. As explained to me how can I be charged for post treatment care when I was there only once for a cleaning. I learned the hard way but hope I can help you. Don't let the niceness fool you!

BEWARE...BEWARE...BEWARE.
I went into this office and am now into them for over $15,000.00. I went in with a cracked bridge and came out with implants, several crowns, and several root canals. Like the other reviews I was totally pressured into the work I received. I did seek a second opinion who said I did not need the work suggested. However, the dentist would not treat me because they had already started the work. When I went back with my second opinion they refused to do the work that the other dentist suggested and were very angry when I questioned what they were doing!!! I could go on and on but I think all have gotten the picture here!!! STAY AWAY!!! Although Dr. Sutherland and SOME of his staff are very pleasant, this office will not be what you are looking for unless you have hit the lottery and have tons of money to blow!!!!!

This place is awful... they are all just trying to sell you more and more. I told them I am in college and do not have extra money for teeth whitening and all the extras but they still wasted my time with 3 different people try to sell me different things. I have never had a cavity, always taken great care of my teeth and my dentist where I used to live said they are in great shape, all of a sudden this place said I need a Deep Cleaning and that my teeth need lots of work, including 2 visits & hundreds of dollars! No way! I finally argued enough to get them to just do the regular cleaning and the women was not gentle at all! My mouth was bleeding for an hour afterwards... I would not recommend this place to anyone!!

I was going to go to this office, but I think I'm going to cancel my appointment. Why do some of the reviews have two different names for the same review? Looks like somebody did a very sloppy job of writing a fake review.

Everyone was really nice, Ashley was a great help. The fact that she is empowered and can use discretion in decision making had a real difference in keeping me as a long term customer. As a consumer it is important to feel that you are working with us, not against us. Dental procedures are expensive but it helps when the staff can empathize with the patients. If there were discounts and deals or coupons it would really encourage more dental visits and new customers via word of mouth.

I wouldn't change a thing...how it's operated works perfect. I was really impressed with the receptionist, lab techs., financial/insurance consultant, dentist, the exam/xray experience and all other services provided.( I wish I could remember everyone by name!) The staff are very professional, friendly, informed and make you feel extra comfortable. I would rate the dental team as excellent! :)

Dr Nadi was excellent. I'll say this: I was impressed at the fact that so much work got done in one visit... that the crowns were made on-site and that they FIT, FIRST TIME! I am also impressed at Dr Nadi's gentle approach to me (a new and somewhat hostile patient) she defused me very well. Now, let's not get excited... I still have pain and sensitivity from the process, but overall, I am happy, given the circumstances under which I came to you. As long as you understand that I am forthright and honest and expect to be dealt with in the same manner, we will be a good fit. You'll see me back in March for a bridge and lower denture. :) Leonard, A.

The phone number for Long Beach Dental Arts is incorrectly stated above as (562) 421-3666. The correct number is (562) 421-3336. I am posting this as a review since I have been unable to get the number corrected by editing or by a direct request to insiderpages.

After moving here, I tried many dentists in the Long Beach area with both HMO and PPO insurance. I am picky. After visiting a couple of dirty and rude places I came here. I also had a negative attitude to begin with, after the dentist told me all of my dental problems (their job, by the way) and how they can be improved. I was starting to get some pain in my back teeth. They scheduled me immediately when I said I was in pain. Their pictures clearly showed the cracks in my teeth due to a life time of fillings. I had to get a couple of root canals, which cost me about $30 each. The crowns were a fortune, but they are expensive everywhere. There is no such thing as a cheap crown. I didn't get the expensive ceramic crowns, like they recommended. They told me the full crowns would cause probelm at the gum line. I thought they were trying to make more money. They were right, though. I wish I had listened and not felt like they were scamming me (obviously I am not the only one who got the impression). They said that I would need crowns on more molars soon, and I felt scammed and went to a PPO dentist recommended by a friend. I developed pain in another molar, and that dentist told me it was due to clinching teeth. When I had extreme pain he said it would cost $2000 to fix. I came back to LB Dental arts. Much better. They know what they are doing. I got the more expensive ceramic crown this time and it so comfortable that I wish I had done that before. No problems at all. Long Beach Dental Arts are so popular their office has trippled in size. Now the wait is not as long as it used to be, and they will always work around my schedule and change appointments at the last minute if I have a conflict. Thay are very friendly and it is very obvious that they want to save my teeth. I have compared prices. There isn't much difference with the HMO dentists. The prices are set by the insurance companies. That is a different story. The x-rays and pictures never cost me anything. If I am uncomfortable, they will adjust. They work with my schedule and are great for my child as well. The office is open until 7:30 so I dont have to take off work. The happy people dont seem to comment here much, obviously, but dont go in with a negative attitude by reading all of the other comments. Believe me, I have seen many dentists in the area, and probably over 20 offices in my adult life - with insurance (both HMO and PPO) and without insurance. Thiss place is one of the best, if not the best, that I have ever experienced. I am very happy with Long Beach Dental Arts. Give them a try, and dont let the pictures or their announcemnt of your problems shock you. They have state of the art equipment and they do know what they are doing.

I had a root canal about a year ago at this office. The only reason that I went back to this office is because I thought my soar tooth was one they fixed prior to that. Well, my soar tooth was a different tooth and they said I needed a root canal. I agreed to have the root canal and they filled it with that cerec crap instead of putting a crown on it. One year later my tooth cracked. I had to go back to that office because they said the cerec filling was guaranteed for life. They x-rayed my tooth and Dr. Sutherland told me I need my tooth pulled and that it cannot be saved. Then they set me up with a consultant that explained to me my cost, after insurance, would be $5,000.00 for a implant or $2,400.00 for a bridge. I could not believe this so I got another opinion.I went to a different office and they explained to me that my tooth should of had a crown placed on it after the root canal. The cerec was not enough to hold the tooth together. Here is the best part....the dentist said my tooth did not need to be pulled and all I needed was a crown, which should have been done in the first place.I have spent way too much money at LBDA for nothing. This place is running a BIG SCAM. Save yourself money and most of all, your teeth. Do not go to LBDA.

I agree, stay clear of this "dental office" ! Unfortunately I went there before reading these reviews, but had basically the same experience that everyone else has had. I've always had healthy teeth and gums, only a couple cavities in my life. But after taking x-rays and digital photos and waiting forever for the dentist to see me, he told me that I would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular cleaning and showed me a little spot on my x-rays to prove it. It was annoying because when he was talking to me, I was laying in the chair and he kept moving back behind me so I had to strain my neck to see him - probably because he was lying to my face! Then I met with the treatment coordinator and was told these cleanings were $250, would have to be done every 4 months, not paid for by insurance (of course), and had to be done over 2 different visits. Anyway, I came home, looked up the office online and read all these reviews. The next day, I cancelled the appointments I had made. I picked up a copy of my xrays, which luckily they gave to me easily and changed offices. My new dentist laughed when I told him about the recommended deep cleanings and said I definitely did not need them. The spots on my xrays that the long beach dental arts dentist showed me were place where I had had fillings. I don't know how this place is still in business with the scams they are running. Stay Away!

If you are thinking of going here- stay clear. Do not even think about it. I have read the other reviews and have had the same experience at this nightmare of an office. Let me state this clearly for the public: this office is running a scam. We have been swindled out of over $3500 for denture procedures done by their in-house specialist, who by the way, was of course not covered by the insurance as he is a "specialist". In house or not, the insurance company doesn't know the difference, and unless this office refers us to their specialist, you pay out of pocket. I have tried for over 5 months to get this office to write that referral, an ended up getting hung up on by their insurance/treatment coordinator. Additionally, when we had an extraction sceduled, they cancelled on us over 5 separate times, as their specialist kept flaking. In the end we had to wait over three months to get this tooth out. Now, I am having to chase people at both their offices for every little thing, including appointments, etc. Also, let it be known that everyone moves around from over four different locations, so that if you ever do have a problem with this office, you can't find anyone to speak to. It's an utter nightmare and we are considering taking action against them in a legal sense.

So please, DO NOT under any circumstances go to this place, or you will find yourself trapped in a messy and terrible situation. The staff at first seem nice, but quickly will change if you don't agree to their expensive treatment plans. And, if you are looking for Dr. Sutherland, you won't find him here or in the Torrance office because he doesn't work at either location. Dr. Sutherland is the owner of this scamming racket of an office, and is NOT the general dentist. Please don't be fooled by their fancy equipment- just think of the many people they have swindled to pay for it. Bottom line: they will trick you into one of their in-house expensive procedures that you likely do not need, and then following a denial from your insurance company, get you to sign up for a credit plan to pay for it OUT OF POCKET.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE- TAKE YOUR TEETH AND MONEY AS FAR FROM THIS PLACE AS POSSIBLE AND IF YOU HAVE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE HERE, CONSIDER FILING A CLAIM AGAINST THEM WITH YOUR INSURANCE CO., OR REPORTING THEM TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, OR EVEN BETTER, CONSIDER SEEKING LEGAL ADVICE WITH AN ATTORNEY.

What a horrible dentist office. Upon my first visit I was told that I had developed a cavity (1st one of my life) that was so severe, they weren't even sure the tooth would be salvageable. I was then ushered into the receptionist office to go over all of the services I "needed". They ignored what my insurance covered and try to push on me the most expensive procedures they could, knowing full well I would be stuck paying out of pocket for them. They pushed a dental credit card on me, and immediately charged the card for the full amount. They then scheduled me for a root canal with their Endontist two weeks later. When I arrived for that appointment, the Endontist said he saw absolutly no need for a root canal, a simple crown would do. The cost for the root canal, however, was still charged to the credit card. You would think they would reverse the charges on their own without my having to call them 3 times to remind them. What a bunch of crooks, the worst dentist experience of my life.

Where do I begin?!?! The previous ratings titled "Great Technology" and "Thank You" were most likely written by Long Beach Dental Arts themselves, because nobody in their right mind could get robbed by the dentist and then actually praise them. I'm stuck with them because of my insurance which they "accept", but they choose to not go by the insurance's pricing guidelines. I've been taken for over $3000.00 more than I should be paying according to my insurance company (which I've filed a grievance against them with). Everything that everyone else has written is right on the money - no exaggerating!! They would try to sell you bionic teeth if they thought you'd fall for it!

Long Beach Dental Arts consistently and repeatedly pushed items and services that I believe were unnecessary.

After consulting with my previous longtime dentist and seeing a new dentist after moving to Denver my suspicions were confirmed. My new dentist actually laughed when I reported Long Beach Dental Arts had always tried to sell me bottles of chlorhexidine (a prescription mouthwash) and that the staff of Long Beach Dental Arts acted like it was some great burdeon when I'd ask for a prescription instead.

My teeth are the type that will likely never have a cavity but gum disease is a concern. That's why it surprised me when a doctor at Long Beach Dental Arts (who wasn't the one I usually saw) sat down, glanced at my teeth and declared that I would benefit from "preventive resin restoration" which boiled down to preemptive fillings on locations that weren't yet cavities and surprise surprise weren't covered by my insurance and would be paid out of pocket, and then immediately produced a color brochure touting the benefits of "preventive resin restoration."

Lastly, Long Beach Dental Arts always billed my 4-month interval routine cleanings as "perio-maintenance" (aka more expensive). After moving out of Long Beach I went a year without seeing a dentist. When I finally did see one here in Denver my new dentist informed me that even after a year of neglect a perio-maintenance was unnecessary and billing the visit as a routine cleaning was sufficient.

The staff is kind and caring, always making sure I am comfortable and willing to answer all of my questions. The procedures were performed professionally and painless
Thank you for making me smile again. After years of hiding my smile with my hand, for the first time I have confidence, and people keep asking if I??ve lost weight or changed my hair! Little do they know the difference a smile can make. Thank you for giving me a new start.

I finally found a dentist that is up to date with the times. Why is it that every other dentist I went to seemed to come from the 1920's? This office has new technology and uses modern techniques. The doctor was very nice and thourough in his examination. The staff was friendly and answered all of my questions.
The best thing was that I dont have a lot of time to take off work, so when my tooth broke and I needed to have it fixed they were able to fix it the same day! I didnt have to come back weeks later to get the crown finished like my last dentist. Now my mouth is all back in one piece. Thanks so much!

After having a bad experience with a previous dentist, I used my insurance provider book to find a dentist in my area. I was pleasantly suprised that the dentist would see me on short notice with an exam and a cleaning (Are the two appointments that hard to get at the same time anymore???). I was informed to get the xrays from the previous dentist (who I saw the week prior) and they could see me. I went to get the xrays from the previous dentist, then was on time for my appointment. Before I went, I searched directions and saw the reviews that came up on this site. I was shocked, and nervous that I may have a similar experience. When I got to the dentist, I was sat in the chair and told I would have to have pictures taken inside my mouth....SOUND FAMILIAR??? I told them that I would only do this if they put in writing that neither I or my insurance company would be billed for the pictures. That made everyone very nervous. The doctor came into the office, and told me that he could not use the xrays I brought because they were on paper. Hmm. Thats what the other office gave me. He said that he wouldnt and couldnt use them, and that I would have to have more xrays done. I told him I wouldnt pay for them. By this time I was very aggitated because it seemed very much like a scam going on!!! I got so pissed off, ripped off the bib and said I wouldnt be back. He said, Please dont come back. LOL No problem Mr. Dentist! I wont be back. EVER. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES

My husband and I use a DMO plan and when our employers switched carriers, we had to switch dentists. LBDA was located above our physician, so we opted for them.

Unlike every other dentist I've had, who allows for new patients to come in and do the check-up and the cleaning the same day, LBDA insisted it had to be two appointments. The first appointment was your generic xrays and exam, where the Russian dentist spent the entire time telling me why other dentists in the area were awful. After that, they force you to sit with their "Dental Plan Coordinator" where they pitch to you every dental surgery under the sun. They insisted I needed $4,288.00 worth of procedures NOT covered by my insurance. My husband had a 90 minute appointment directly after where he received a $3500 quote.

When we came back to do our cleanings ("covered by insurance" they said), without asking or informing us with would be extra, they applied flouride to our teeth for a hefty price of $75 a person and then had us rinse at $30 a person.

We planned to switch dentists but time flew by and it was time for our yearly cleaning. We have a big family event coming up and wanted to get them clean beforehand and it was too late to transfer dentists at this time. When I called to set this up, I was informed we would need to sit through another sales pitch as we didn't opt to do anything from them the first time, before we could schedule cleaning appointments. Then when I asked about setting that, I was informed they "scarcely" do insurance-covered cleanings but do offer "deep cleanings" for $80 extra out-of-pocket "all the time."

I immediately hung up, forfeited the idea of getting the cleanings done before the family event, and switched dentists. Our new dentist found normal wear & tear but suggested no major oral procedures and was amazed at the quotes and procedures LBDA had given us 12 months before.

This place is a JOKE.

The only reason I remained a patient longer than I should had was the hygentist. Other than that, the office was a scam. They charged me for everything...from mouth wash (30) and irrigation (80), which they didn't tell me that I didn't have to if I don't want it. Dentist suggested I should have an in-lay procedure done instead of white fillings. The charges were equivalent to an arm and a leg. Called the receptionist back and asked her why it's so expensive. She told me it's already discounted for insured patients. Does this make any sense? Wouldn't the discount go toward uninsured patients? Went in again and told the dentist I can't afford it. Office manager gave me a $200 discount without any fuss. Suspicous of that. Not enough of a discount...moving onto another dentist.

Owner is a Russian dentist. A family member went for an exam complaining of toothache. With the dental pick, he dislodged two cavities. He has high pressure tactics by busty women trying to sell cerec implants and laser procedures. This is the Russian mob! Honest. Or is it capitalism. Try stopping it. Or go there and get an exam and fifteen minutes later they'll have you signing a contract and telling you not to worry. Go to any other dentist and you'll get a totally different estimate. And the business manager won't slam the door in your face when you refuse to sign the contract. BEWARE!

Maybe I was just spoiled, but my whole life I've only have excellent dentists. I moved and I decided to try this dental office for a routine cleaning. I will never go back. When I went for my cleaning, I was told that I would have pictures taken of my teeth. I explained that I had brought x-rays from my previous dentist (which were taken 6 months before) and I didn't know if my insurance would cover those pictures. They insisted I had to have them and that they wouldn't charge my insurance (!!!). Then after being seen by a dentist (who didn't really seem like he knew what he was doing...he told me that my previous dentist had done really good work....well ya, she's awesome), a receptionist yanked me out of my chair and told me that I'd have to come back for the cleaning because they couldn't find my insurance information in the network. This is the same insurance I had with my previous dentist and her receptionist had no problem finding my info and billing them. I called back a few times and everytime I asked if they had found my insurance information they said that they hadn't had a chance yet (!!!). Meanwhile I get a bill in the mail for the full charge of the pictures they took of my teeth and the dentist looking into my mouth. I called back to complain and to ask about my insurance again. And they told me not to pay the bill and that they would work out the insurance stuff. They never called me back (this was 5 months ago!) and I'm never going back again!!! I'd give them less than 1 star if I could!

PROS:
CONS: Hard to find parking, incompetent staff

I took my son for an emergency visit as his tooth had been hurting all weekend and he was having to take motrin every 6 hours to relieve the pain (he's 6). I took him in and the dr. said "he has a cavity" (I told HIM that!). I thought they would do something then, but I was told to go to the front desk and schedule an appointment. They couldn't get him in for 6 weeks! My husband took him back in and demanded he be seen-and he was. The very same week, my 8 year old fell and cracked half of his front tooth off. He was in pain, but again they said it was only cosmetic and wouldn't pay for anything and they could see him in a month. Again, my husband demanded that he be seen and he was, but they didn't do anything about it. We took him to a cosmetic dentist in L.A. who took his lunch time to fix it because he started my son was starting school the following week.
