Amoeba carries every type of music imaginable. Their prices are excellent and you can find local artists, not available anywhere else. Store is well-organized so it's easy to find what you're looking for and the people who work there know where to find things if you can't. Worth a trip to the Haight.

PROS:
CONS: Difficult to park in this neighborhood

This is the absolute best place to go when shopping for music in the Bay Area. They have everything you could even think of, though you may have to dig a little to find what you're looking for. Everything is very well priced and competitive to the chain stores as well. Friendly staff too.

Great friendly staff that knows their stuff. I recently got a record player and wanted to check out some vinal. Didn't know anything about it when I went in but came out knowing a lot more. Wide variety to choose from and great prices. Can't go wrong with this place. Also a great neighborhood, could check out a lot of other things while you're on Haight.

This store has a large collection of DVD movies, music, tapes, LPs and other stuff. Once you enter Amoeba Records, it is difficult to leave because their prices are decent and that you could find rare DVD's in here. The staff are very helpful in insisting you in finding the music that you need. The store is large and clean. The prices are not pricy at all.

Anyone living in San Francisco knows that Amoeba is the best record store on the planet. Any type of music in the world is here and you can easily find it all with the help of their help desk. They have everything and, even better, they have everything used and cheep. I love going here and blowing my hard earned money and so will you.

Whenever I need a music CD I can't find anywhere, all my friends recommend Amoeba. It's pretty far away from where I live so I don't get the chance to go often, but when I do, I always manage to have fun looking at all the different CD's. My favorite section, of course, is the rap and hip hop. My advantage is that the people who usually go into Amoeba aren't usually into that kind of music (they're usually rock fans), so the rap CD's are sometimes priced lower than the others. It's a fun shop to browse!

I went to Amoeba Records a few times with friends. They have a great selection of used and new Cds to chose from, and I even sold back some of my CDS to raise money for my prom. I know that the store has to make money, but, I was disappointed when the sales clerk only gave me 17 dollars for my 40 CDS. I mean, a few of them were scartched, but a bunch of them were brand new and never listened to before.

There are a few locations of Amoeba Records in the Bay Area, but I like the San Francisco location the best. There's nearly every CD in existence, both new and used, somewhere in the cavernous store. Unlike some other reviewers, I found the sales staff to be notably absent, but I didn't really care because there was so much stuff to go through. It's not just a store. It's an afternoon.

Amoeba Records, a huge used music store in the Haight district of San Francisco, is worth the visit. It is the "Costco" of music stores, a veritable warehouse of CD's with the possibility of finding a treasure. But you have to be ready to browse...this store is not for those looking to get in and out in 10 minutes. Prices are good, trade in's accepted, and the store fits well with the funky feeling of the Haight. Enjoy!

Everything you could possibly want or dream up in the way of music can be found at Amoeba Records on San Franciscos Haight Street. The building strikes me as being a warehouse which is packed full with CDs, records, posters, LPs, tapes, etc. Everything is clearly labeled. The prices are beyond fantastic. The staff here is really incredible and can point you in the right direction. This is definitely the spot to go for the music aficionado in your life.

Amoeba records in San Fransisco is the best record store in Northern California. The second best store is the Amoeba Records in Berkeley. You can literally find every CD you ever wanted here, both rarities and more mainstream stuff. It is so much fun to just go around looking at all their CDs and checking out new music.

You should definitely go here if you're into music.

There's nothing you won't find in this warehouse of music. But you may have to do a little dance to get someone to pay attention to you and, god forbid, smile. They also don't have anywhere to listen to the music before you take it home and if you return it (unless it's defective) you only get 75% of the price back.

Amoeba deserves its reputation for a reason. It's stocked with more records, CDs, used tapes, and obscure vintage finds than most places in the Western Hemisphere. Although sometimes its selection of recent or new music varies in quality, anyone seeking Warren Zevon, the Rolling Stones, or Elvis Costello on vinyl with mostly likely find their trip to Amoeba both rewarding and fruitful. The staff at Amoeba is generally knowledgable about a wide variety of music, particularly lesser known bands, and can often point you in the right direction if you get lost. Yes, it is that large.

amoeba has all of the cds that you're looking for. it's a very nice store and you can find all of the rarities that they usually do not have at regular music stores such as tower records or virgin megastore.

I like this record store a lot. There are tons of nice finds and great prices. Their records range from anything to everything! The employees are very good at finding stuff for you. I just hate that a lot of druggies like to hang around that area.

this place is so far from everything. i'd like it more if it was more near haight-ashbury near all of the other stores. it takes forever to get to this place by feet. i like this place because they have good shows and such for artists. their cd's are really cheap and they have really old cds as well.

Probably the finest selection of music in the Bay Area. They offer an amazing assortment of new and used CD, LPs, DVDs, and more. They also offer decent prices when they buy your used music. I have found the staff to be very helpful and the layout of the store easy to navigate. The store also has cool in store performances that are free.
