San Jose Museum of Art is one of my favorite places! If you become a member by paying a $50.00 annual fee, then you can come to Kids Art Sunday which is the second Sunday of every month. At Kids Art Sunday, you get to come to the museum an hour before it opens and get special tour by the docent focusing on a special piece of art. It may be abstract, pottery or film. Then the kids get to do a special art project which relates to the piece of artwork they saw. I didn't think that I liked modern art, but I have really grown to appreciate it after visiting the museum on a consistent basis. My kids have learned a lot about art and so have I!
You can see some amazing art at the San Jose Museum of Art... for free. A good place to go with a date or even with some friends if you want to spend an easy and relaxed afternoon. A lot of the paintings and sculptures are free standing, so you can really get a good look at them. There is no admission, but donations are always welcome and help ensure that the Museum remain open.
This museum is filled with art from local artist. Really no one knows about this museum but people come to the tech museum and see this one and just walk in out of curiosity. Mainly the incentive is that its free, who doesnt like a free anything? But once you walk in its a pretty cool place. Some of the art just likein any museum is kind of boring I must say, but some you can really see the creator's imagination. Go ahead and spend about an hour there, I think you will really find something in there that you really like. The ehxibits changes all the time so you might even have to visit a few times.
The San Jose Museum of Art is amazing and beautiful. They have different display every month and there are a lot of unique and beautiful art. The admission is free but you can donate. The guide are friendly and knowledgeable. You have to see this place if you are in this area. Very good museum.
Located at 110 S. Market Street in dwontown San Jose, this place has large collection of photographs ground breaking furniture and graphics media work and architectural works of Jaqueline Thurston...Place to be if you are a fan of this 20th century photographer (50 black and white photors of this photographer)
All in all a great place for arts buff
Mostly how people discover this museum is because it is right next to the Tech museum, and honestly, its FREE (donations VERY welcome.) San Jose really isn't know for its art museums, so people often dont think that this is going to be diffeent. But it is. I definitly am not a museum person, but this place has someone. Definitly bring a buddy, you will want to share your thoughts on all the exhibits so badly. You two will definitly have something to talk about.
This Museum has many of the most beautiful pieces that I have ever seen. To get in is free and you could donate to them too. Walking around this museum is amazing, and best of all, the art submited into this museum are from locals and kids from local schools. If you're in the area, totally check this place out!
Since this museum was in the same location as the Tech Museum, we couldn't help but take the opportuntiy to take a peek inside. I am so glad that we did. Honestly, what first drew me in was the fact that admission was free (donation optional, thought). After that everything just kept getting better and better. The displays are so unique and intriguing. They range from simple and peaceful to romantic and flowing, to bright colors full of life and vigor. They have a good sampling of works from local artists. I learned that we have some very talented people in the area.
PROS: free, large variety of art
CONS: none
The San Jose Museum of Art is a great museum and it is oftern overlooked, since San Jose is not especially known for its museums, or for its art for that matter.
However, if you are ever in downtown San Jose, you should definitely check out this place as it is amazing and it features a lot of local Bay Area artists, which you could not see in other museums.
The SJ Museum of Art is a gorgeous museum that features local bay area artists. The entry is fee (but you can donate any amount) and the guides are very nice and informative. Located very close to the Tech Museum, the SJ Museum of Art certainly is worthwhile to visit if you have the time.
