You always get a great deal and worth the wait with cosy group seating. It was the best french dip we've ever had. its worth the drive if you want to enjoy a great meal.

Their quality is excellent but sometimes I don't like going there when it is during peak hours or when it is crowded. You end up standing in line longer then you take your time to eat. Plus sometimes it is nearly impossible to get a seat.

It's a little on the pricy side for what you get but you should at least try it out once.

PROS: Food quality is great
CONS: Prices are a little steep for what you get, waiting in line

Ratings_icons A Los Angeles Must

Flora P. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,681

For anyone who you are bringing in from out of town Phillipe's is a must. If you have never been there and you are a Los Angeles native it is also a must. It has been there for years and the food is awesome. I would recomend it to anyone who needs a joint to take out of towners to munch!!

Philippe's Restaurent is located near Chinatown across from Grand Central Station. It is noted for its French Dip sandwiches, and was founded in 1918. My husband and I visit regularly for their beef dip sandwiches and chile straight. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly. You order after being in line. Sawdust on the floors and sometimes crowded (around lunch time). Great place to get some culture and history of old Los Angeles. Visit Chinatown or Olvera Street after your meal. A most enjoyable experience.
