Awesome!

by Gary W.

I go there all the time and it's usually almost all men who want to rock! A ton of humping and pumping; squirting and spurting, all the guys, straight, bi or gay, and transgender really get down and party. Everybody is way cool and open. Last time I did it with 4 different cute guys and in the Military room there was a regular orgy going on! If you're a guy, cute and not a homophone, come (lol) on down and bring a friend!

BRING BACK THE OLD MANAGEMENT

by Anonymous

I have been a regular customer of The Power Exchange even before it was actually called The Power Exchange. Originally it was The Playground. When it first opened it was one of the most exciting clubs in San Francisco. It was busy all the time. The staff was great. The place was constantly changing. Unfortunately over the past three years it has gone completely down hill. They have run the gay community out (unless you are a transgender). Now the crowd consists of "working girls" and old men masturbating. The manager who used to actually live on the top floor ran the place like a machine. What happend to him? It has truly fallen apart and it's really sad because the place used to rock.

the place has its ups and downs

by Anonymous

I've been going off and on to the PE for many years. A few years ago it was a prime venue for horny gay guys, many of them young and hot (or older and hot); they devoted two upper floors of the building to gay cruising, with great set-ups (labyrinths, tents, glory hole areas, etc). They must have been making money like crazy and there was a good vibe and lots of action pretty much nonstop. Then they introduced the "Mixed Club" level and the top floor, which was pretty much a gay thing with a few straight voyeurs, tapered off; there were just some hardcore "regulars" who were always there and not very interesting. The bottom floor has always been for transvestites and transexuals (men, many of Asian descent, dressed as women) hooking up with guys (some of whom didn't seem to realize that they were chasing other guys) and a few bondage scenes which tended to be pretty vanilla. As other reviews suggest, the main action is a few couples making out, sometimes going pretty far, with crowds of desperate, horny men jacking off surreptitiously around them (by that I mean a lot of these guys don't pull their dicks out, and certainly don't want to have sex interaction with other guys in the crowd). There are a couple of areas where "anything goes" but it's basically for guys who like trannies. The decor is a bit shabby but kind of fun, but I would recommend that the club give a lot more thought to building the kind of "spaces" like they had on the top floors in the old days; what they have now is basically about voyeurism, but that's only one kind of sex possibility, and I think a lot more people would go there if they could have casual sex hook-ups with their partners in more private spaces. I have two main problems with the club. First, because I'm gay, I'm sorry that the gay element has faded away; though a few gay guys still go there, they seem to have given up on the idea that they could attract a really large, diverse crowd of gay guys of all ages and races who'd like to play with one another (and any straight/bi people who'd like to explore). Maybe they don't want to be perceived as a gay sex club (though essentially the downstairs trannie/voyeur area is "gay" in a special sense). Second, the pricing is ridiculous, and probably discourages many people from going. Aside from probably being against the law (as well as the egalitarian spirit of SF), it has the effect of being anti-gay (for many of the "single men" who get stuck with the highest prices on Fri. and Sat. would probably be gay if they were willing to pay $75). In general the pricing means the crowds, even at the busiest times, are fairly small, and much of the club ends up feeling a bit empty and dreary despite the fact that there could be quite a few people in the building (it's very large). Basically this place is a missed opportunity. It has great potential but the current management doesn't seem to realize how to make it really fun, diverse, exciting, and worth returning to. I know it's possible for the place to succeed because five years ago it was really rocking. The whole place could be turned around dramatically if the prices were lowered and evened out for everyone; if the spaces were reconstructed somewhat to allow for a wider range of more intimate hookups as well as totally public sex display; and if they weren't so shy about the fact that the place is only gonna really succeed financially and erotically if the wider gay community finds it fun and sexy.

Good stuff starting to change for the better.

by Maximilian T.

The Power Exchange is not a new club and things are starting to change there. I've been going since 2005 and from time to time the place changes from creepy to sexy to boring and to exciting. It depends on the people and what you bring.

It needs a face lift but they seem to be changing things slowly. As for dirty and unsafe sex practices, well they provide the items necessary to have safe sex and the rest is up to you. Dirty? Well not really any dirtier than any other nightclub. I see them cleaning and mopping regularly. I f@%k there all the time and get tested regularly and I have nothing!

The big draw back is the masturbating guys. But if you are firm with them as to proximity and use the doors, barriers and chains provided they can't get too close. This is about public sex and voyeurism, so I expect it. I think you should too.

The pricing is expensive for single guys but couples enter at a reasonable price and the place is fun if you have a date or if you are looking to hook up with another. I have seen every kind of sexual activity there. Trans, gay, lesbian, hetero it's all good there. It is a place for people to be themselves. I've seen really awesome transgender girls, ugly guys in dresses, over 60, under 25 it's about expressing a side of your self that you cannot in public. Be free here and be open.

The security and staff are friendly as long as you are. I've found if you are respectful so are the patrons. Try talking to some people and the place lights up in a social respect.

As for the clients, well it's all ages. I would say the clients are averaged at 30-35. Mostly guys and transgender right now, but I've seen an increase in younger good looking couples, single guys and women (in that order for population).

We can change this place if we keep going and bringing new better crowds. Where else can you have sex, dance, play pool, watch porn, meet like minded people, shop for adult toys, and have it all in 30,000 sq ft?

dishonest and discriminatory club

by Anonymous

As well as being dirty and allowing unsafe sex practices, it has a discriminatory entrance price system that perpetuates an expoitative and regressive view of sex. Far from being 'sex-positive' and progressive it reinforces the notion that if men offer to pay for sex they are entitled to get it. It uses transgendered people to make money by in effect selling homosexual sex as a kind a hetero sex to naive and horny guys that have probably had a few drinks and are desperate to get off. Very unpleasant place and not right for San Francisco in 2007.

by Brenda T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,392

after hearing what my friends have been telling me about this place, i decided to check it out with them. it was really amazing. people there were so free and sexual, and basically everyone was having sex with eachother in different sections of the club. you're able to watch it or join in...and trust me, i just watched it. it was a bit too much for me. but interesting.

whoa.

by Karen T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,788

i was very shocked when i went here. a lot of sexual activities. a little bit frighetning especially when you're invited to join, but other that that, it's a great "club". very amazing and interesting. it's a little twisted, but it's something very new. just be sure to stay safe and run if you get really frightened! just joking. prices to get in are really expensive.

This is the most expensive and overly rated club around. Famous for being the only sex club still open; mainly because off-duty cops work security there. All the rooms are poorly lite so one begins to wonder what is not seen. The place is just a bar without the alcohol; people standing around with no music. People who patronize this place are usually fat, old people and these are mainly men. One needs to be comfortable with a couple making out and having at least a dozen men masterbating around them to feel fairly comfortable.
