Cerbones is the most consistent fruit and vegetable market in the city. They always have a large selection, including specialty fruits and vegetables, and are nearly always cheaper than any competitor, even when the competitor has a sale. Cerbones does have some local produce, so if it's in season, you will find it at Cerbones. Cerbones has the "no-frills" decor of a farmer's market but they carry products from far and wide. The staff could be friendlier, but the products are top notch. Prices are about half of the grocery stores and sometimes even cheaper.
