Great place to visit

by Ricky j. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,231

We come year 4 plus times a year. Every summer we pick a different spot at Sea World and do one of their sleepovers. Our favorite was sleeping in the acrylic tunnel of the sharks. An awesome experience. During the day you can eat lunch next to the shamu tank and have a great all you can eat buffet lunch while the whales do some demonstration with their trainers. It's a great activity for the whole family.

San Diego's Disneyland!

by Nancy G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,980

Sea World San Diego is truly a one of a kind experience! It is the perfect place to go for an adventure whether for a family, couple, or just a bunch of kids. There are many exciting shows, attractions, rides, and great dining and shopping. They also have a special deal called the "Fun Pass" where you come and buy a one day ticket and you can use it for the rest of the year! What a great deal! Sea World San Diego is the Disneyland of San Diego!

So Much FUN!

by Sheila S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,120

My kids have so much fun at Sea World, we go at least twice during our trip. It actually saved us $ to buy a season's pass at Costco in San Diego (saves on parking, food, and gift-shop as well).

My kids' favorite exhibits: penguins, sharks, manatees, sting rays (with stingers cut off), tide pool to pick up starfish, and the Pet Show. They never get tired of it.

Some of the shows get pretty packed, so if there's one you have your heart set on, try to see it early. That way, if it's full, you can catch a later show.

be careful of the killer whale

by Edwin D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,638

It is so much fun coming here. Too bad you have to pay for parking. I love the shows especailly teh Shamu Adventure. It is fun to get wet and have that whale swim around and entertain the crowd. I wish I could come here more often. Annual pass is an option and might do it next year.

Incredible entertainment and educational park

by Terri G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 723

Sea Wold has something for every member of your family. There are exhibits which are educational, adventure water rides, dolphin and killer whale shows, interaction with sea animals, etc. The park is small enough that you can easily explore it all in one day or large enough that you can come back more than once.

Amazing experience

by Prachi N. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 923

I just love sea world, shamu with all his adventure, dolphins, seals, flamingos, penguins not to mention the amazing rides. The journey to atlantis is an experience in itself. The view of the harbor from the southwest tower is amazing. One loves the trolley ride. There are a variety of restaurents, games and recreational areas for the kids. Dining with Shamu is a memorable experience. You are sure to get drenched, so carry a raincoat or wear something that dries easily

PROS: Great exhibits, Rides, Shows

Shamu Adventure!

Shamu, Shamu, Shamu.....no matter how many times I see them, I can never get enough of them! Their adorable face, body, movement and their fantastic show is a must-see at Sea World. They got me drenched so bad one time that I had to buy some new clothes at the gift shop.....of course I went home with pretty Shamu on my sweatshirt.

Sea World

by Liz B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,240

I love the animals at Sea World and I definitely recommend visiting the place once. I wouldnt recommend going more than that because after seeing a couple of their animals shows, the tricks they do becomes rather repetitive to me and start to get boring. The hot sun beating down on you while you sit through the show in their stands is awful too, I would recommend wearing a sun hat or something.

PROS: Amazing animal tricks
CONS: Animal Tricks become repetative, hot

Like no other

by Olggie Z. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,303

Nothing, and I mean nothing can compare to Sea World in San Diego. I have gone to other parks which have shows with dolphins and whales and otters, nothing campares to this one. Its just amazing what they teach these animals to do. Im not sure how many killer whales they have but they are just so much fun to watch. On a sunny day sit in the front rows on the soak zone and when they jump you might just get a surprize bath. There are always HUGE crowds here though but there is enough to watch for everyone. shows are pretty often and you can just plan your whole day around then and go to the part of the park where your next show is. Just like with any other park like this make sure to bring a coupon! Whithout it the price is KILLER! Food is also very expensive. Come prepared with sunscreen.

Fun but pricey

by Robert D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,671

Sea World is fun for the whole family. There are a wide variety of rides, exhibits and shows to watch and even the Tide pools where you can get your hands wet touching the rays. The admission price of the park has gotten outrageously high. Also, food bought on-site is quite expensive and not very tasty.

Sea World

by Anonymous

We went to Sea World last year and I must say, not only did the kids have fun, but so did mommy and daddy! When we went to see Shamu, we sat at the Wet Zone and boy, we were wet from head to toe! It was so exciting to see us at the big screen TV having so much fun. The show itself was outstanding. I was fooled into believing that the "visitor" was really drowning. How gullible... but the show was that convincing!

There were so much shows to see that we never even got to ride any rides. = ( The show by the sea (I can't remember the name) was also pretty cool. The stunts were amazing.

The tickets are $$$ and the food is overpriced, but that's always expected at amusement parks. Money well spent.

Want to visit Shamu?

by M. C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,993

We took the kids (3 1/2 years old & 22 months) to Sea World in late September. The weather was warm still. We caught all the shows, which were great. I was surprised that they didn't have more rides. We ate at the Shipwreck Cafe, which was a good experience. The kids enjoyed themselves and so did we.

Don't miss a SHAMU show!

by Villa A. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,602

I used to go there every weekend even after I became an adult. That's how much I enjoy being at Sea World. Their shamu adventure is a must see and I definitely recommend their aquariums and the marine life. You can get an annual pass at a discount price at local grocery stores and go visit as frequently as you like! Great time is definitely guaranteed.

Fun but not quite worth the $$

by Jack Y. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,289

I think that Sea World is fun only for those who are animal lovers and enjoy watching shows. It realy isn't your usual amusement park with tons of rides but it does have a lot of shows and exhibits. The price of admittance is not cheap though and pretty hefty for a family when you add it all up. However, it always seems like children are all clamoring to see SHAMU so it is worth it. Try to get a discount through triple A or another venue. Money might be better spent at the zoo or wild animal park.

PROS: SHAMU!
CONS: $$

Nice Park

by J L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,016

This is a gret amusement park. Included in the price of admission are rides and entertaining shows. My kids loved going here. The Shamu show is one of the best ones. If you want to see it you must get there more than 30 min early because that is when people start piling in. The downside is that parking cost about $8 if you are not a memeber and when parking gets crowded you have to walk a nice distance from the parking lot to the entrance. Eating there is very expensive and not that tasty. Bring your own lunch and eat it in the car or leave to eat and come back. You can get hand stamps for readmission.

In the summer, they stay open late, have great shows and do fireworks. If you get a chance to go at night I suggesst it cause it makes a memorable experience.

Another thing--the Sea World Characters like Shamu don't come out like the characters at Disneyland. All in all it is worth the money and even more worth it if you have a discount.

A great way to spend a day in San Diego, especially a hot day. It has top sea lion, dolphin and killer whale shows, if it's hot, sit in the splash zone. there are a lot of people in the park. This is mostly an animal park, so don't expect rides, there's a whitewater rafting ride, but when i visited the line was waaay too long

AWESOME!

by Elaine Z. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,273

This place is really awesome. The wildlife here is just soooo cool! The killer whales, the dolphins. The reason why you come to this place is for the shows, I have never see shows that compare to Sea World's. The dolphins, etc. are just so well trained and it is so much fun watching them. And if you get wet, well its double the fun. Sometimes if you get picked out of the audience you will get to do something interesting with the animals, maybe even touch them. They also have shows with people (not animals) and those are awesome too. Sea World is just a great day of fun!

PROS: fun
CONS: lots of people. $

My kids love this place!

by Kandice T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,926

Sea World is place that children and adults of all ages love. There are many different types of marine animals, including killer whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, sharks, and many different types of fish. We love to watch Shamu perform and also love to feed the dolphins. There really aren't too many rides here, so it's great to catch a lot of the interesting shows and exhibits. Our favorite is the shark exhibit. Sea World is a great place for families to go to learn more about sea creatures.

Great Place

by Ja'Nelle L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,893

Sea World is a wonderful place. The only negative thing I would say is that it is way too expensive. You can get into Disneyland for about the same price. There are lots of sites to see, lots of shows, restaurants (the food is not the best, I reccomend packing a lunch and eating it in the parking lot), and rides (my kids love the rides). All of that is included in admission (except the food). Parking is about $8 for cars, and more for preferred parking. Yearly passes are a better value if you plan on visiting two or three times or more. They even have easy pay so if you cannot afford to outright pay for passes for your whole family you can pay monthly. The kids love it everytime we go here. They never seem to get tired of the place.

oh...that place

by Allison B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,500

Again, sea world, the zoo, the wild animal park - all held a much greater appeal when I was much younger. Sea World's "rides" are at the very least rudimentary and nothing to rave about although they have some thrill and score a little for being in an animal park. It always seemed that once you've walked around any park like this the mentality was that it never changed, you only had to see it once and nothing changed much.

by Shannon L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,644

Sea World is definitely a fun placce for kids of all ages, but tickets are really expensive. It's best to try and get a pass of some sort, especially if you're a local and, for just slightly more than a regular ticket, you can come back for several months or a full year. The Shamu show was a bit of a disappointment for me, but the dolphin show was cool.

Wet 'n Wild for the Family

by Bob V. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,917

During our two week vacation at California, Sea World at San Diego was the highlight of the whole trip. It's an amusement water park. The main attraction is this whale call Shamu. He's really smart and amusement to see. The whale is trained to do tricks (what's really cool is that when the maintanence staff there feed the whale, they give him these small fishes, and he shake his head, as in 'no thanks'. Then, they give him these bigger fishes, and yet again, he shaking his head. Finally, they feed him these huge fishes, and the whale noded, as in 'yes, plese'. ) it was so much fun and our kids love it there

Sea World, from a Local's point of view

by Melanie H. | insider Insider | Rank: 20,983

Don't get me wrong with the 3 star rating. Sea World is a fun and educational experience and I think everybody should be fortunate enough to spend time there. When you are like me, having three children and living five minutes from Sea World, I am there ALL THE TIME! The attractions are great. The few rides they do have are fun. The food, on the other hand, leaves something to be desired. Overpriced and not the best tasting is how I would have to describe it. Also, the 'Dine with Shamu' experience they advertise is FAR from worth the money it costs you to be a part of it. We have done it and we were very disappointed with the waste of money.

Sea World is the ultimate place for fish lovers. Food, of course, is very expensive and not very good, so I recommend packing your own. The Shamu show still draws a large crowd but the killer whales seem to do less and less tricks. Certain shows have them doing more. Be prepared to walk a lot because exhibits are spaced widely apart.

Sea World is a great place to go wether you are 50 or 15. The shows that Sea World are at some times corny but still manage to entertain. Sea World has recently been building new rides like water rapids and a roller coaster which are both unique and very exciting. With its constant efforts Sea World has become a hip new place to go no matter how old you are.

Sea world is a great place to bring kids. The interaction with marine animals makes it a fun and worthwhile experience. While it may be less appealing to teenage delinquents, it is a good place to take your family. Shamu always has an ability to make you smile and remember what it's like to be a kid.

Sea World is loads of fun!

by Randy N. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,398

To me, this place is practically better than Disneyland. The animal shows are amazing and interesting and the rides aren't too bad either! The only thing I have a problem with there is the food situation. Around lunch and dinner time, ALL of the restaurants are ridiculously crowded and you have to wait in line for over an hour to get a mediocre meal that would end up costing around $60 for the whole family.

Guaranteed fun for the entire family

by Melissa T. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,448

My favourite theme park of all time. There's something special about spending the day at a place looking and learning about all the animals in this park. There are some attraction rides here (The Wild Arctic is a must!) but the lines are never as long and tiresome as those at Disneyland.

My friend and I purchased a backstage pass ticket which enabled us to go behind the scenes at some of the attractions here - for example, the penguin quarters and dolphin show sections. We were in for a treat when we went as they had just gotten 2 new baby penguins in and we were able to look at them in their special care unit. The dolphins were a lot of fun, very cheeky and playful creatures. And don't forget the infamous Shamu show, really really cool.

If you live in San Diego, you should invest in a Seaworld passport pass (free parking, discounts at stores and restaurants and unlimited entry all year). Trust me, it will not go to waste. This is a place to pop in and out when you have visitors in town, or if you just want to spend an hour or two outdoors doing some fun. It's perfect for the young and the old!

Shamu is the hit of the park and the Clyde and Seamore show is fun to watch too. The park is busy during the summer hours so if you're a local, try and visit during the off season.

by Carissa P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,534

Sea world is summer fun for the family. If you go in the summer or live in san diego look into the fun pass. For only a little more than a day ticket you can return all through the summer. If you do buy the pass prepare to spend most of that day waiting in a line to get your picture taken. After that however take the time to peruse all the cool spots. They have rides for kids, teenagers and most importantly shamu. Be aware of the splash zones and remember the water has salt in it so its gonna make your hair crunchy.
