I'm so pleased to see so many other people have billing issues or quality of care concerns!

I am particularly interested in hearing stories about Medicare! Inpatient or Observation "status"!

I had an ultrasound done at one of the Overlake Hospital offices. The true nightmare started a month after the appointment. A month after the appointment I found out that I received the ultrasound not from the office where I was an established patient, but from the hospital. The problem was caused by the office??s negligence to notify the existing patients that the status of the office changed from ??office? to ??outpatient?, which makes a huge difference in insurance coverage. As a result, the ultrasound that was suppose to be 100% covered, turns out to cost more than $1,000. I was not the only patient who experienced this improper business conduct, but the Hospital simply doesn??t care. They admitted that it was their mistake not to let patients know about changes in the billing practices, but they are not going to be responsible for their mistakes. Although it??s their mistake, they are not willing to work with you. The financial office is not customer service oriented at all. Talking to them is like talking to an automated system that offers you to pay for the result of the Hospital mistake in monthly payments or apply for a charity. No other options!!! All they care is that they get the money, even unethically ??earned?. If you are going received Overlake Hospital services or find out after the fact that you used their services like it was in my case, watch out.

I was admitted quickly, left in peace with excellent nurses to go through my labor with regular check ups from my doctor. My husband and I listened to our music as I managed the contractions and I couldn't have asked for a better situation. The peaceful atmesphere really helped.
The nurse that helped during my delivery had been a mid-wife or doula at some point and did a great job of coaching my through it as I had chosen to not use drugs during delivery. My doctor was clear and straight forward with what I needed to do when I was hazy and having trouble listening to anybody while pushing.
Afterwards it was like having room service. I was well fed, they changed our baby's diaper for us and taught us how to swaddle, etc. They were also good to my husband.
The employees are world class for sure. I've heard some people have issues with the billing dept., but I've found that's an issue in most medical/dental practices. We made payments to Overlake and didn't have any issues getting that set up.
We are gearing up for our 2nd child and will be heading back there again soon.

I worked at Overlake. I have never seen such unjust treatment of employees. The disrespect and bullying in the department was disgusting. We were told we are resources, not people. Based on the experience and the fact the human resources department knew and did nothing, makes me want to tell people to think twice about working here. All they care is about money, not their patients or staff.

I definitely will not go back to Overlake. Granted, I had been through their Emergency Dept. for various reasons but at one point in time when I did go in I was greeted with "Oh it's you again". The lady checking people in went back to whatever she was doing and didn't bother to see if I was OK. I literally felt she was very cold and no it was not a busy night there. I was certainly not feeling good but to get greeted like I did sure hurt the feelings and I wanted to walk back out the door and go elsewhere. I did not feel welcome.

My sister was brought in to ER at Overlake Hospital and was treated very well, with caring and attentive Nurses and DR's. She was taken to ICU and the caring continued and the Dr was very thorough. If I need to go to hospital I will go to Overlake!

Be aware of unsafe practice and staffing at Overlake Hospital. Management is all about time and money -- patient care is not the priority. They assign staff to do procedures they are not trained to do nor have never done. So, as a patient you may have a nurse taking care of you, doing a complex procedure that they have no idea how to do, have no back-up, and are pressured by management to accept the risk involved. You may have a nurse that has been without sleep for over 16 hours taking care of you. Staff are treated as though they are owned, not as professionals with independent decision making ability -- disciplined if attempt to change environment to promote patient care, improve safe practice. Overlake appears as a beautiful facility on the surface but when you look beneath at management and leadership you find the real priority is to make money -- safe, patient care is definitely NOT the priority.

When I went into labor and was admitted to Overlakes birthing center the hospital was over booked and there was not a room for me. I literally gave birth in the broom closet. They were so busy that the doctor cut the ambilical cord without asking my husband. Immediatley after giving birth I had an allergic reaction to the anestisia and could not hold my daughter yet. My husband had to go back to work and the staff said that they could not take my daughter to the nursery because it was to crowded. I felt very helpless at this point my mother came over to the hospital to help.

A few weeks later I did recieve an apology from Overlake Hospital

Had my baby there. Nurses were caring and great! The nightmare started once I was discharged from the hospital. I had a problem with their billing department and they DON'T CARE. They are NOT willing to work with you, even if it was their mistake. The company is NOT customer service oriented at all. All they care is that they get their money, they don't care if you are out of job or on death bed, or they don't take any considerations what so ever. You would expect compassion and care from an institution like this, but it's not even close!

When I went into labor prematurely, the staff in Overlake's Childbirth unit was instrumental in keeping me calm and making certain everything that could be done for us and our baby was done. Many mothers to be would be pleased to know they retain an anesthesiologist especially for the labor and delivery rooms.
As is typical, I went through a number of nurses between the time I was admitted and the time I delivered, and almost all were terrific. Very personable and calming, while at the same time ruthlessly efficient and knowledgeable. I never once had any concerns that anything less than the best care was taking place for our child.
After a textbook, if early, birth, we were whisked away to the mother and baby unit, complete with a private bathroom, television, vcr, rocking chair and a recliner that turns into a bed so all three of us could stay overnight. The nurses there were also terrific, checking up on patients at regular intervals and making sure mom's, dad's and babies were all comfortable. They have lactation consultants right there to assist any nursing mom's who need a little extra help, and plenty of resources and materials to answer any question parents may have about the health of their child.
The overall experience was terrific, when it's time for our next child, I will absolutely be going back to Overlake!
For those wondering about the one nurse who wasn't terrific, she was knowledgeable enough to provide exceptional care, just rather impersonal and didn't "click" with me very well...definitely not something major!

PROS: Knowledgeable, professional, personable, great environment
CONS:

Overlake Hospital offers great quality care. Their staff is caring and empathetic when you have an emergency. Their birthing unit is one of the nicest I?ve seen! They make it so comfortable for the mom, the dad and family to be a part of the birth. Their surgical staff is kind and caring as well. They take very good care of you at Overlake.
