If you like modern art then this is worth a visit. I will go to a special exhibit now and then but otherwise what they have isn't "art" as I know it.

Pros: 5:15 free admission, Chinese Contemporary Art Permanent Collection

Cons: nothing

.

The Rothko is impressive but the permanent collection suffers from lack of depth- ONE minor Pollock, ONE Brancusi, two (?) Matisse, etc. etc. Dare I say too much photography? What's the deal with all the fuzzy Daguerotypes? Far too many

I love spending time at the MOMA. Not only is the building really impressive, but the artists they display are wonderful. Check before you go on who the latest exhibit is. Their gift shop and cafe are worth a visit too.

PROS: good exhibits

If you like the concept of modern art, then this is the museum for you. It offers thhousands of beautiful art to view and discuss with your freinds. A wide array of atristic paintaings can be found here. Parking is very hard in SF, so it might be feasible to hop on public transporatation. Overall, visiting the museum of meoden art was a fun and educational experience. Highly recommended.

Downside: Parking is horrible.
Upside: A great cultural experience that provides hours of entertainment (literally).
May not be the best place to bring younger children to. But it is a great place to soak up the art and diversity.

You really have to be into modern art to truly enjoy this musuem. If the museum wasn't free on Tuesday, I don't think I would have attended. they do have some decent pieces, but some of the other pieces were boring. I could not understand half of teh paintings. I guess I like traditional pieces more than modern ones. But it is a good experience, something new to learn about. The parking is really difficult though. But its a god educational experience for kids.

Beautiful Beautiful museum with alot of culture and history. This is a perfect place to take your childrn to learn about art. Everything is so organized and beautiful. the downfall here is that parking is horrible. It took me at least thirty minutes to find a spot. But it is well worth it at this museum.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is definitely a must see for any art lover in San Francisco. The collection is world class and includes painting by picasso, braque, cezanne, and countless countless others. They also have changing exhibits that are fascinating. The architecture of the building itself is breathtaking and certainly puts guests in a mood to be inspired. The paintings take care of the rest.

Once again I feel like the odd one out--I didn't find this place to be that great. I went with a group of friends and none of us really enjoyed it that much. There was some amazing art, there was some crap art--actually when I went there was some art that was made out of elephant crap. It was okay, but not a place that I would go over and over again. I guess I prefer smaller art venues.

The most important thing to know: The first Tuesday of every month is free, and you can't pass up a free museum. Of course it's also over run with field trips and visitors on that day. The regualr price of entry is a little expensive though. The permanent collection is pretty good (tons o' Lichtenstien), the building is great, but the real treat are the touring exhibitions.

The building is amazing to be in. The art is a bonus on top of the atmosphere. Contrary to the other comments, free admission is only available on the first Tuesday of each month. (Check their web site at http://www.sfmoma.org/visit/visitinfo_hours.asp for details) Otherwise it's $10, with half off on Thursdays after 6pm.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, also known as MOMA is world famous. I highly recommend this museum if you like modern art; if you're particulary fond of modern art, you might not want to skip this one.

One of the great things about this museum is that one day a week (Wednesdays, if I recall correctly) there is no charge to get into the museum!

A beautiful museum, boasting some of the finest modern art around. I usually don't make enough time to see as many musuems as I want, but I highly recommend putting it on your list of things to do in this city and if you come on tuesdays...IT'S FREE!!

SFMOMA is always changing; the permanent collection and the traveling exhibitions are rotated to make every visit to the museum unique and fun, even if the visitor has been there many times. Great deal!

Why are tickets to this museum so expensive? $10 for a museum this small? I'm annoyed that my home town (SF) doesn't have a good museum to compare with other cosmopolitan cities such as NYC. I know some people out there are going to say
