I just love the Pike Place Market. It has the most amazing fresh fish, and the fruits and vegetables are unbelievable. They are so beautiful and fresh not to mention the cheap prices. The flowers are just as beautiful too. It is a must stop destination. Just experiencing all of the different shops is spectacular.

Ratings_icons COOL PLACE!

Andrea E. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,004

The Pikes Place Market is one of my favorite places to go to when we visit Seattle. When I am there I always end up spending alot of money on all of the cool and creative things that are there. One of the best things about there at the market is the "Flying Fish".

When we visit Washington this is a must stop. This is where we first discovered halibut cheeks in the most entertaining fish market. Yell, toss through the air, wrap. So much fun. This also the home of the first Starbuck coffee shop. Flowers are beautiful, there is a great oil and vinegar shop, pastries, cafes. Also there is live entertainment on the sidewalks.

NIce place to spend a few hours. The kids were interested in the fish tossing and I have to say it was very cool. The flowers were phenomenal, great prices and so beautiful. I kept wishing I could buy some but we were to be there for another week and wouldn't have been able to enjoy them in a hotel. Fun, relaxing, day out without having to rush about.

Ratings_icons Good place to visit for tourists and Washingtonians

Yen D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,933

Pike Place has a variety of shops, restaurants and bargains if you know where to look. The flowers whether dry or not are always a bargain. There are also restaurants that have been spread by word of mouth that need to be visited such as the Pink Door, the restaurant where Sleepless in Seattle was filmed or the Le Panier bakery. Every year they have the Cheese Festival in the springtime with a huge variety of over 100 or so cheeses. I usually go to Pike Place for the flowers and the donuts.

PROS: variety
CONS: hard to find parking

Ratings_icons A "can't miss" on your trip to Seattle

Michelle Q. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 515

There are many different levels and hundreds of vendors and shop at this tourist attraction/local haunt. Hold on tight to your kids or spouse and dive in. Pick up some fresh produce, flowers, seafood, t-shirts, Mt. St. Helens ash sculptures - whatever suits you. But be wary if you are there at night because there are supposedly ghosts that roam the market! Great place to spend an afternoon and be entertained by street performers.

Ratings_icons Pike Place Market -- Public Shopping By The Sea

Charles M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 569

If you are visiting Seattle to see one of its landmarks -- the Space Needle -- then it can't be complete without visiting the other famous one -- Pike Place Market!

Pike Place Market is recognized as America's premier farmers' market around the world. It also houses many commercial stores, craftspeople, farmers, street performers and musicians. "The Market" is always alive with such colorful assortments wandering around. There is a heritage tour to learn more about The Market.

The Market itself is full of wonderful fresh foods and wines. The fish market is the place to be to see huge fish being flung through the air, all part of the entertaining atmosphere.

Parking can be found in the garage and can be validated by any vendor at The Market.

Overall, the open air coupled with the ocean air and breeze makes Pike Public Market a venture that can't be missed.

PROS: Full of activity, fresh foods, lively atmosphere
CONS: none

Ratings_icons Flowers, funky shops, flying fish, what's not to like?

S. N. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,074

Pike Place Market is, of coure, famous for the fish shop where the workers put on a great show while selling very fresh fish. We usually go when we have out-of-town guests because it's a good place to wander for a couple of hours. You can get beautiful fresh flowers and produce. Parking can be a pain. As you wind through the market and below, there are lots of funky, little shops selling practically everything.

Ratings_icons A Seattle Must!!!

Joyanna M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,648

For those visiting the great Northwest, you must find the time to stop in at Pike Place Market! Just the experience is so much fun. You will find homemade jewerly and crafts, fresh produce, seafood and flowers, a divine pastry shop, gift shops. and lots more! Prices can be a little steep but you don't have to buy a thing. Be sure to look at all the names on the tiles as you walk along. My uncle's name is somewhere in there but I can never seem to find it. If you don't want to drive in, which I don't recommend, try the city buss. It's cheap and stops many place near Pike Place. You can also walk up a few blocks to the West Lake Mall where you can also find many goodies.

Ratings_icons Diverse vibrant and a bit touristy

Rachael B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,525

Pike Place Market is famous and quite a busy tourist destination. If you can handle the crowds (or just go during the weekdays) it is well worth it. When the weather is warm the fresh flowers abound! Flowers are probably the best del at the market. And then there is the fresh fish and produce. There are also lots of restaurants and opportunities to dine on the waterfront. For a quick bite-savory or sweet I recommend Piroshky Piroshky!

Pike Place Market is so fun. Just to walk through it and see all the people is fun alone. But throw in all the great stuff you can buy there and it just gets way better. The fresh pruoduce is fantastic. I even enjoy buying the fresh flowers. And how could I not mention the fresh fish you can find here, it's the freshest. If you're a tourist, you definantly must visit Pike Place Market.

shianxiu s. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 977

a seattle tourism marvel for decades advertised in many movies that are made to represent seattle. famous for its fish throwing, the pike place market is a very lively place for tourists. the pike place market comprises of many little antique stores, open fish market areas, open gourmet food areas...gosh, i would have to just remark the pike place market as a "homely" type of place. the workers are ever so friendly. the feel of the market is just bustling with tons of people and many stores and open markets, which sort of gives me that rush of excitement and curiousity feeling. definately, if i knew of any people new to seattle or visiting seattle, then i will bring them to the pike place market!

Ratings_icons A seattle landmark worth a visit

Nate S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,032

If you are a local or a tourist this is the place for all things Seattle. I like going here for all the fresh food and great shopping. It also makes a great spot for people watching. The top level has of course the world class fish market but I like downstairs because it has some great shops. Comics, smoke shop etc etc.

Ratings_icons Farmers Market Extrodainaire

Heather M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,334

Is it a Farmers Market? I guess so, but it's so much more! I take everyone who comes to visit from out of town here. Three of my favourite places to shop are here. I buy meat, fish and produce at the market regularly. Whenever I visit my elderly aunt I stop and pick up a gorgeous seasonal floral bouquet - for $5!!! You can get a HUGE one for $15 Also, gifts, junk and heaven knows what else. Even if I don't buy anything at all, it's a fun thing to do with the family. Enjoy the street preformers and food stalls. On a cold day make sure you get some fresh hot donuts.
If you want to get serious shopping done without the crowds, go on a weekday morning. People complain about parking, but don't realize you can park for one hour free in the attached public garage. Plenty of time for picking up groceries!

Ratings_icons Great place to take out of town visitors

Sheila B. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,879

Once you've been to Pike Place (as a resident), it loses a bit of its luster. But Pike Place is a fabulous place to take out of town guests. Years ago there was more variety in terms of the vendors: more crafts, homemade artifacts. Lately it seems as though flower vendors have taken over the majority of the place. Great prices for some beautiful flowers, but I'd like to see more of the old vendors come back. Make sure to visit the shops down on the lower level. We went to visit the palm reader, she was a hoot! And for lunch visit Lowell's. If you sit next to one of the windows, you can feed french fries to the seagulls. Lots of fun for tourists!

PROS: Great way to spend the day for tourists.
CONS: Not as much variety in the vendors as there was about 5-7 years ago.

Ratings_icons A Seattle Landmark and for good reason. Haven't been? YOU HAVE TO GO!

Peter H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,597

If you're reading this and have never been to the market, I have to ask you "Why?". This is quintessetial Seattle, from the fish to the produce to the buskers singing outside. Stall after stall of food, crafts, art and t-shirts awaits you. I must have been there a millin times and I still haven't seen everything. If you have friends in town, take them here for a fun couple of hours. Watch the guys throw fish, have a latte at the FIRST STARBUCKS, eat little donuts fresh out of the oil. Buy a souvenir. Put some coins in the big metal piggy bank. I'll stop now. Just go darnit. Go! NOW! :-)
