are some of you really complaining about a haircut or color from a school? if you dont want to wait a long time, and want super professional service and quality, then go to a salon. the students are learning and you know that going in, it kills me how cheap people, who dont want to pay the price complain about a service. you get what you pay for.

I will never again pay money to have to sit through a butt-numbing 6 + hours of torture (TWICE!) for a half a head of highlights. The first time the color was wrong and my hair at the roots was noticably darker than the rest. The instructor would leave the room for long periods of time in between small bouts of supervision. She did help a few students place one or two foils but failed to come over to students doing my hair knowing that I had been there the day before and had sat through an entire day of bad service previously. Also, the color instructor was very rude to another patron who decided she did not want the blow dry after the color, since she had already been there for 4 hours and had to leave. The instructor scolded the customer that she had been warned about the time needed and that the students had to learn. The woman walked out anyway. The staff may warn you of 3-4 hours, but that is not usually the case. I have also tried the school for a cut and was horribly disappointed with that, as well. The girl who was cutting had never cut hair on another person in her life and her scissors were so subpar that my hair was bending between the blades and not being cut!! I looked like Raggedy Anne by the end of it and had to pay a professional to have my hair fixed. I understand these are students who know very little, but I think the monetary cost is far too high for the level of knowledge these students have. If the school wants to charge the prices they do, they should at least have only senior students working on the public. The academy is pretty hit and miss and I believe one would have better luck at Super Cuts.

I actually went to school at Sassoon Academy and i have had nothing but great cuts and color. i know a lot of people complain about how long it takes, but you are notified when you are making an appointment. it takes 3-4 hours because they're all students learning but in the end you will get a great haircut or color. do not be upset if your student stylist is not talking to you very much, its because they are probably nervous. it is a scary thing doing some ones hair. just be nice to them and they will usually lighten up. the best thing i can say is to have patience, if you don't want to wait 3 hours for a haircut then go somewhere else. its as simple as that.

Even a decent haircut is not worth 4 hours!!! Once you don your cape, you are shampooed and then taken to a room. There are several do's being done at the same time...students are supervised by instructor.

My stylist treated me like a "subject" and didn't speak to me much, except to tell me where to go for the shampoo. I was put in the "Contemporary" room, probably because I look young. They don't listen to what you want in a style. Instead, they're there to try out techniques that they have in mind. I ended up getting a haircut that was way shorter than I wanted it to be. I was hoping for a mid-length haircut and ended up with a variation of a bob. I know hair grows back, but I was traumatized. It appeared that the student and teacher knew what to do with my hair, but didn't explain to me what they were going to do before lopping it off!

Luckily, the cut grew on me after a few weeks. It was a decent cut that required little maintenance and grew out nicely. The student stylist did cut one side shorter than the other, but I ended up evening it out myself.

The Vidal Sassoon Academy is good for those who are very open-minded about new hairstyles. I hear it's a hit and miss experience. It was $19 when I went, which is a great deal, but it's not worth the time for a stylist that doesn't do what the client wants.

PROS: cheap, nice location- you can go shopping afterwards
CONS: non-existent customer service, don't listen to the client, takes too long

This is a great place to go if you need an inexpensive cut, but still want to be stylish. It's technically a school, but most of the stylists there are from other salons. They are just there to learn the Vidal Sasson style/method of cutting hair. There is an instructor that goes around the room making sure everyone is doing alright. If your in a hurry this is not the place to go. Since they are learning they take their time and it could take up to 4 hours for a cut.

They offer cut and color here, but be sure to make an appointment. For about $20 you can get a great haircut! They also give student discounts too.

This is a good place to get a haircut for about 20 dollars. Be forewarned it takes about 3-4 hours. The student has to get their instructors' approval and therefore they soend a lot of time waiting and not too much time cutting. I have always gotten good cuts here. They cut men and womens hair and also do haircolor. They sometimes have a coupon in the la weekly for a haircut for 10 dollars. A great deal not to be missed.

Since it's nearly impossible to get an inexpensive haircut in LA (see my review for The Cut), I got my first LA haircut at Vidal Sassoon Academy for about $25.

Everyone here is a student, and as such, they take 2-3 hours to cut your hair, under supervision.

I went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was busy. My haircut took almost 3.5 hours. A lot of that time was spent waiting for my stylist's supervisor to come over and approve or disapprove of what he was doing and/or show him what to do. My stylist was friendly and did a good job, but his supervisor was unsmiling and smelled heavily of cigarettes and didn't want to do with my hair what my stylist and I wanted, which was kind of obnoxious. It also seemed that there was only one supervisor for all 15 or so people getting their hair cut. This person may have also been supervising the people doing highlights, but I'm not sure.

This experience is fine if you have plenty of time and not much money. I was happy with the quality of my haircut, but didn't like spending an entire afternoon to get it done. For that reason, I have started going to The Cut instead.

Vidal Sassoon Academy has limited hours and is not open every day. They also do highlights, and they offer student discounts at certain days and times if you have a student ID. I actually think that the price may be cheaper if you go on a weekday afternoon, but don't quote me on that. Also, don't try to walk in on a Saturday. I had to make my appointment 8 days in advance.
