This YMCA seems new and well-maintained. I went on a weekday morning from about 7-9am, and it was quiet and peaceful, yet had a fair number of patrons.
They have a large swimming pool--I think 25 meters and 8 lanes. I didn't actually swim in it so I can't comment on water temperature or cleanliness.
I used the weight room. I didn't really like it because there were no windows, the played radio music over the speakers, which meant commercials and lots of morning chatter, and the pulleys didn't glide smoothly. At the gym I currently use, employees walk around occassionally and remove weight plates that people absentmindedly leave on the machines, which is crucial if you're not comfortable bending over and picking up a 25 pound weight and putting it away. At the YMCA, there were no employees in the immediate vicinity, and weights left on the machines prevented me from being able to use some of them.
I also used their cardio room. They have elliptical machines and stair machines and treadmills, but the machines are on the older side. For a long time I was very attached to the Star Trac elliptical machines, which they didn't have as of my last visit (which was a year ago, so things may have changed).
I liked their mats for stretching and abs--very comfy. Maybe too soft for an effective ab routine, however.
I think this gym is better for the occasional gym user who doesn't need particularly good equipment or long hours of operations. And it's definitely good if you're a swimmer. But if this isn't you, you may want to check out Easton Gym on the Promenade above the Adidas store.
They let me visit for free, but normally it's $5.
