The portland zoo is a great place for a family outing. They have very good shows and lots of interactive things for visitors. They have a restraunt and a snack bar with all sorts of expense levels and the food is excellent. It is a great place to go with the family or just to take the kids and there friends.

Ratings_icons I Love This Zoo!

Sheri C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,167

The Washington Park Zoo in Portland has got to be one of the best zoos around. I have been coming here since I was a child, over 30 years ago, and I still love it. It can be a bit expensive if you ride the train and eat at the zoo, but it's definately an enjoyable day. The layout is so nice and natural and they have a great variety of animals. The bird shows are always very popular, as is the zoo lights for the holiday season. This is truly an A+ zoo!

TO GO TO THE ZOO WITH KIDS IS FUN ITSELF, BUT GOING TO OUR VERY OWN PORTLAND ZOO, IS FUN FUN FUN!!! ALL THE ANIMALS THEMSELVES THROW KIDS INTO MERRYMAKING AND NOT TO MENTION THE ACTIVITIES THEY HAVE FOR THE LIL ONES. A MUST SEE ATTRACTION.

PROS: ANIMALS OF COURSE, AND ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS
CONS: RESTROOMS SHOULD BE GIVEN PROPER ATTENTION

Ratings_icons Awesome Zoo.

Jen S. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,926

This is a great zoo, that is nicely laid out so you can go from one exhibit right into the next exhibit.

Parking lot is large, however the zoo tends to get crowded and sometimes finding a parking spot is difficult. The earlier you arrive, the easier your chances are of finding a spot.

They rent strollers & wagons if your child tends to get tired out easily.

The only downside is that it is quite expensive, but every 2nd Tuesday is $2 for each person! Highly recommended.

Ratings_icons Fun family day

The zoo is wonderful and well maintained. It's kind of a long hike in to the zoo but the displays are wonderful and educational. The animals seems to be well cared for and as happy as captive animals can be.

Ratings_icons Portland Zoo - Excellent place to send your summer time

Ginny S. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,317

I just went to the zoo after not having been there for several years. It was fantastic!! They have changed it so much I almost did not recognize it. So easy to get around and every area is marked clearly, the animals are fantastic and the displays around each section are phenomenal. The concessions stands are great and of course the staff there are so helpful and give outstanding service. Will be going there more often. Plus all the extra activities for the smaller ones are great. So much to see and do.

PROS: Excellent set up of displays, great staff and easy to get to.
CONS: None

Ratings_icons A fun day!!!

Cherrie J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,006

The Portland zoo is a really fun way to spend the day with your family. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, but it's great to watch the animals and the kids just love it. The only thing I thought was disappointing was their "insect" area, which didn't consist of very much. :(

PROS: lots of animals
CONS: kind of expensive

Ratings_icons Very Impressive

I was very impressed when i went to this zoo for the first time. Even since then I have taken my children many times and have always loved it. The zoo has a wide variety of animals to look at. It also has a wonderful giftshop and a train that winds through the zoo. My children love going to the zoo and i love taking them because the zoo is such a nice place to spend an afternoon.

Ratings_icons Have a great time.

The Portland Zoo is always a great place to visit, whether you have children or not, there is always something great to see. Enjoy the day walking through the beautiful environment and seeing all the wonderful exhibits. One of our favorite summer time exhibits is the BUTTERFLY exhibit I am not certain that they have it each summer, but if you find they do, I encourage you to go the butterflies fly all around you in an inclosed enviorment it is very neat.

Ratings_icons Fun for kids

Lisa S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,309

The zoo has really changed since I went as a kid, but it's still a great place for adults and kids alike. I would recommend going on a day with mild weather as the animals get a little lethargic when it's too hot. It's a little expensive, but a great experience.

PROS: Fun
CONS: Expensive

Ratings_icons a great family outing

Karen W. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,365

Our family loves going to the Portland Zoo... especially on a nice sunny day. If you go on the 2nd Tues of the month, you get in for a discount. We got a membership this year. It's nice not to feel like we have to go on the busy Tues. A couple of our favorite attractions are the Zoo Train and feeding the Lorakeets. The Zoolights event is also a lot of fun at the holiday time, but dress warm. It's awfully cold outside that time of year!

Ratings_icons Go and see this place, it's wonderful

Joel C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,492

The Portland Zoo is absolutely world class! I have been to Zoo's all over the U.S. and in other countries as well, and I have to say that the Portland Zoo is at least as good as the best of those.

They have really put some money into the place over the last several years and it shows. The paths that visitors can take to go to this place or that are well designed, signed and decorated.

For a city of its size, Portland should be very proud of its Zoo, I know that I'm happy to have one of its quality so close to my family. I'll go back there and I certainly hope you go as well.

PROS: Everything about it
CONS: None

Ratings_icons Class Act Zoo

I am a fighter in good conditions for
zoo animals. The Portland Zoo should
get a price for being tops on the list.
It's not a huge zoo but each exhibit
is unique and interesting.

Ratings_icons I haven't been to many zoos....

Ashley W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,821

...but Portland's is pretty nice. The zoo has a concert series each summer, and it's a decent place to see a show. The grass space fills up fast, though, especially for popular shows, so go early and bring a blankie to spread out and claim your ground.

PROS:
CONS: Expensive booze.

Ratings_icons One of the best

Jackie C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,941

I was born in Portland and that's not the
only reason why I think we have a great
zoo. It's because we do. We have strived
to create a warm and friendly environment
for our animals with exhibits that recreate
their own natural habitat.

well kept, great environment for the
animals. Quite a treat.

The Portland Zoo is perhaps one of the finest
I have ever visited. The exhibits are built for
natural environment and the location of the
zoo itself, Beaverton, makes it scenic and
unique.
