With two stires, this museum houses traveling exhibitions as well as an array of European, Asian, American, and Contemporary art. With an outdoor sculpture garden near the main entrance, this museum is a great way to relax and spend the afternoon with your fellow art lovers. Even for those who aren't interested in art, check out Balboa park and stroll around and enjoy the great atmosphere

2 Stars: Stuffy and uncomfortable (by Xenia F.)

My main complaint about the San Diego Museum of Art is the atmosphere. When I visited much of the staff made the museum feel cold and stuffy. Those in charge of keeping patrons from touching the art glared and were hardly gracious. The art itself was fairly impressive, although if you are into contemporary art this is most likely not the art museum for you.

5 Stars: Nice museum store (by Luc G.)

This is a great place to shop after touring the museum. Although the shop is not extensive, I've always found a nice selection of books to choose from. Many harder to find and out of print books and I always end up buying something. If you're looking for something in particular, call ahead to see if they have it in stock.

5 Stars: Great art musem! (by Jerry W.)

This is a really great art museum. They have a huge variety of different art from different periods. It took me a really long time to get through all of the different smaller galleries. It is great place to go with a friend or two and just admire. Nice gift shop too.

5 Stars: Great place for the Art Lover in Everyone (by Karrie F.)

Though relatively small in size, the San Diego Museum of Art has a solid collection that ranges from medieval to post-modern art. The collections are rotated frequently so that you can always see something new and the temporary exhibits excel in quality, theme, and complexity. A trip to this museum can easily consume a large part of the day despite its size, so make a day trip out of it and if you have extra time you can visit some of the other great museums in the park.

4 Stars: Very satisfying place (by David N.)

The San Diego Art Museum is a great place to go and take a trip for a day and explore various art forms. A lot of the pieces are simply beautiful and its amazing to look at such works so closely. Being a normal person and not a huge art critic, I still find the museum a nice place to go to, especially for sight seeing, because of the sheer size of the place and how much there is to see.

4 Stars: World art at it's finest (by Quoc D.)

They offer a very extensive collection of works covering most cultures and most periods of art. The late European abstract paintings were some of my favorite. I also enjoyed the extenisive Asian art collection with works from all over Asia and India. The price was reasonable for a family trip and the galleries were well organized for people with children.

I love art and art history. I enjoy seeing great works of arts by the masters. I enjoyed the wide selection of American, European and Asian art. I was impressed with thier Asian art collection it included works from my home country and lots of early century bronze and laquer work from SE Asia.
